Should I try wegovy Mounjaro was too strong for me!

Hi there in August 24 I tried MJ I took one dose only as the effect was intense I had far too much suppression I could barely get any kcals day down and trying to eat it was like I had a mental and physical aversion! Even swallowing and biting was really difficult. I also had bad muscle aches.
maybe if I preserved it would have been ok but I couldn’t tolerate this! I felt like I would have only needed half the dose to get the usual amount of suppression.
anyway fast forward 2 years I weigh 5kg more and I really need to lose weight. I know I will need help to do it, so I want to give GLP-1 another go,
im concerning trying wegovy instead as maybe it will suit me more? Plus the cost is a lot lower.
any advice? Has anyone else found mj too strong but wegovy worked well?

They are different drugs and responses to them are individual, some people find their responses and side effects have been very different on each one. You won't know how you response until you try.

Many people have an initial intense suppression in the first month or so. I did and had to eat calorie dense food, such as snacking on nuts, to get through it. It does calm down and I can eat normally now, I enjoy food and could even pig out if I want to (I just don't want to, I lose interest after a "normal person" sized portion).

You could try Mounjaro again and start on a half dose by click counting if that is an option for you. Or try Wegovy and see if it suits you better.

Why did you choose MJ over Wegovy the first time? I think for most people, MJ tends to be the superior medication with fewer side effects than Wegovy, but for others it's the reverse. The current price difference is now a bigger consideration though.

I would consider trying it again in a smaller dose, like 1/3 of the starting dose, so 20 clicks out of the usual 60. But, this would mean going against prescribing protocol.

Perhaps book a consultation with a prescriber or an in-person pharmacy that prescribes to see their recommendation?

Mounjaro is stronger and more effective, though I get nausea, hair loss, poor sleep and low moods with but didn't get any of these on wegovy, so I would recommend you to try wegovy first. For me wegovy didn't control my inflammation, ibs and blood sugars and as a previous diabetic, I needed it for that so went back to mj but on a lower dose now 7.5mg.

Wegome26 · 01/03/2026 18:17

Thanks for the responses, the reason I went for mj initially was from what I’ve read it seemed more effective and less side effects.
hmm maybe I should give it another go and start on a third of the dose as suggested.
need to figure out price differences too.

I was like you have described in the 1st week, got better after that, I did have nausea for a few weeks but it was manageable with eating well and keeping a few savoury high protein snacks to hand.

Yeah, I think you should have persevered. Mounjaro is better but sounds like you're a super responder like me. I have been on it 17 months and only just now made it to 15mg. I have had to creep up the doses because of the effects. I mostly just have a slight tummy ache the day after injection now, which I can live with.

Ozempic/Wegovy have worse side effects. My partner is on Ozempic(American) and he often feels really sick and he's been on it years.

HappyWineDay · 03/03/2026 09:26

@KitsyWitsy if you’re a “super responder” why have you needed to go up the doses? People who respond well tend to stay on low doses long term, with many never going above 2.5mg. I’m genuinely interested in what has driven you to go up the doses.

SilenceInside · 03/03/2026 09:29

@KitsyWitsy why did you want to move up at all, if it was working for you? I've been on Mounjaro for 20 months and I am on 10mg and have been for several months now.

I think there's some variation in what people describe as a 'super responder'. For me, I felt the effects immediately. It doesn't mean you don't need to eventually up the dose. I just couldn't ever go up by 2.5 or I'd be ill. I'd have to stagger it by just going up .5ml a time.

Officially, I think it means you've lost 10% of weight within 3 months. I just looked it up.

I've only ever moved up when the effects were lessening. To be honest, I haven't lost much weight in 6 months and I will be using my last two pens up and trying to manage without it after that. I only need to lose another stone.

I lost nearly 20% of my weight in 3 months, on 2.5-3.75ml. BMI from 28 to 23. Like you u felt effects immediately, within 1-2 hrs and lost my appetite completely. I have never really got my appetite back, I can look forward to food a bit more than in the 1st 2 months though.

God, I wouldn't have thought myself a super responder at all, just ploughing along. Am on wegovy for 7 weeks now and have lost 11% of my initial weight.

Yeah, that seems weird doesnt it, 10% for me was 16/17lb so only just over 1lb per week, thats not a fast weight loss at all. I think I had lost that in 1st 5/6 weeks.
