Struggling to loose any more weight

fudgesmummy · 26/02/2026 20:35

Hi all,
I have been on Mounjaro for 11 months now.
Started at 2.5 and slowly worked my way up to 10 by September.
At Christmas I had lost just under 4 stone but I am now struggling to loose any more.
I am having to reduce my BMI to have life changing surgery but need to lose at least another half stone, preferably more before I will even be able to go on the waiting list.
The drug has reduced my appetite to such an extent that I find it hard to eat enough but I’m still not losing anymore weight.
It is making me feel increasingly depressed and despondent that I will never be able to have the surgery I desperately need.
I would be very grateful for any advice or insight on the situation.
Tia

Thank you everyone for your replies.
I obviously need to track my calories.
Today won’t be difficult, all I’ve managed to eat is a small cheese scone, a packet of skips and 4 rich tea fingers.
Dinner was oven chips, peas and a frozen fish in batter.
All I managed was a couple of chips and a spoonful of peas, I just couldn’t physically make myself eat anything else.
This is how it is most days, it’s just so miserable.
I feel sick with hunger

If this is a typical day then it’s almost exclusively refined carbs which won’t be helping you

SexyFrenchDepression · 27/02/2026 22:48

TBH that really isn't great. Thats actually a fair amount of calories for limited nutrients. Most people dont feel great eating unhealthy food. You really need to look at what you are eating, count calories and macros. Concentrate on protein first, I dont think anything you have listed doesnt have a load of carbs in.

mondaytosunday · 28/02/2026 00:10

That food is not good at all. You need to be eating whole foods in a good variety with the emphasis on protein.
Are you not under medical supervision? What does the person that prescribed the drug suggest?

You feel sick with hunger but can’t eat? You think you don’t eat much but eat enough to maintain your weight? You eat a hugely unhealthy diet and wonder why you don’t feel well?

cmon op. You can do better than that.

I think maybe experiment with a few different healthier foods - it is no surprise you feel ill on what you ate yesterday, there was very little nutrition in it, and I do find I feel ill if I eat high carb/fatty stuff when taking MJ.
It may be that what you're managing to eat is full of hidden calories - eg. do you know how many calories in the cheese scone? Cheese scone would be a no-no for me on MJ tbh, as would a bag of skips. Pretty much empty calories/carbs.
Some suggestions -
Egg & wholemeal toast, add spinach if you like it, Greek yoghurt and fruit, protein shakes - you can get them from the supermarket in all flavours. Like the Huel ones - which I have't tried, but I've had the Arla ones and liked them.
Prawns/avocado/tuna & salad is a favourite of mine, with some low cal mayo or olive oil dressing.
I also eat homemade cottage pie/spagbol made with quorn/soya mince, or some sort of lean protein (chicken/fish/quorn) with a small amount of boiled potatoes and loads of veg - broccoli, carrots, green beans etc.
Fruit, nuts, yoghurt, breadsticks.
I track calories and have gone from BMI 36 to 26 in 10 months. I did plateau for 2-3 months over Xmas - I find to lose weight now, I have to eat below 1000 calories a day. I do have biscuits and even chocolate/cake occasionally, but only if allowed in my daily calorie count, or if I'm having a treat day.
Last week I had between 850-1000 calories each day and lost 2lb.

@SilenceInside
No, I don’t track my calories, perhaps I need to start doing so.
At the start I was 18st 11lb with a BMI of 48.1
I’m now 15 stone with a BMI of 38.4
I am only 5ft 2 ins tall

@PermanentTemporary @InfoSecInTheCity
I walk with crutches and have to use a wheelchair when I’m out so I am completely unable to exercise at all. This has been the case for coming up to 2 years now ☹️
I do drink a lot of water
I hardly sleep because of the constant severe pain I am in at night.
@FurForksSake
I find it nearly impossible to get an appointment at my surgery, when I have spoken to them about not losing anymore weight there has been no suggestion of upping my dose. I get the feeling they don’t really know much about it.
I get it prescribed on the NHS.
I will try and get an appointment to discuss increasing my dose

Thank you everyone for your replies

This doesn’t mean you cannot exercise. Seated exercise still counts! You can stay seated and follow chair exercise videos or even just lift small weights if you’d like to increase movement.

Also you’re hungry because the food you are eating isn’t satiating - it’s high calorie but very dense and small and not offering any bulk for your digestive system. You should be eating lots of vegetables, whole grains and lean proteins to ensure you feel full for a long time on fewer calories.

If you feel sick with actual hunger your MJ isn’t doing its job.

FurForksSake · 28/02/2026 12:04

@fudgesmummy I hope you are doing ok, I feel like this might have all come across as a bit of a pile on, myself included.

I think the takeaways for you should be
consider the content of what you are eating and think about how you can get in more nutrients.
track your calories and consider what your deficit is
look into some gentle exercise, private physio, hydrotherapy, specialist pt
if you are feeling sick with hunger the mj isn’t quite doing what it should, talk to your provider
consider the long term, this is your chance to reset things and move to a sustainable healthy diet for life.

Lots of small nutritious meals which prioritise protein and fibre, exercise snacks through the day (YouTube seated workouts and resistance bands, walking in a pool, bed exercises) and doing what you can to sort out sleep and stress will help a lot.

FatTumNoBum · 28/02/2026 13:07

Good grief! No wonder you’re not losing weight. You’re eating completely the wrong sort of foods. Lots of fat and high carb.

Presumably you already know this?

If you don’t actively choose to change your diet, you’ll simply put on all the weight back on that you’ve lost since starting MJ.

Brightlittlecanary · 28/02/2026 13:12

I can’t understand why you’re eating what you are on the drugs op. Crisps, chocolates, chips, cakes,

you need to eat clean and healthy, low sugar, low fat. Healthy foods. 1g of protein for every kg of body weight, or you will be very unwell. As you are. All you ate yesterday was high sugar carbs, you must have no energy and be very unwell.

Brightlittlecanary · 28/02/2026 13:17

Also be hydrated, aim for 3 litres of water a day. I think try to come up with a sensible eating plan and stick to it and drink your water.

cut out all chocolate, cakes, crisps and chips.

start eating things like overnight oats or porridge, eggs, sourdough toast, soups for lunch or salads, with protein, then a protein for dinner, with vegetables and potatoes done in a healthy way,

lots of fruit, you will only be as healthy as your diet.
