Has anyone not increased their dose?

I’m into my second week of Munjaro and already lost 3lbs. I don’t have a lot to lose and plan to be on it short term. I’m thinking it will be easier to wean myself off if I stick with the 2.5 dose. Has anyone tried this?

@cupfinalchaos , many people somehow manage their entire weight loss journey on 2.5mg though given that it is not supposed to actually be a therapeutic dose that does surprise me. You must have a fair bit to lose or you would not have had this medication prescribed, I suggest you give it some time and see how it goes. Some people do ‘wean themselves off’ the medication once they reach goal, statistics indicate that the majority of them will go on to regain their weight.
I had to get up to 15mg but many don’t go that high, I’m at goal now and coming back down the doses; currently on 7.5mg and hoping I can maintain on 5mg eventually and permanently.

Thank you. It feels very therapeutic to me, have had to force myself to eat!

It’s only your second week and the mind is a powerful thing.

Yes I’ve done this - been on 2.5 since Nov. I’d say last month it didn’t feel quite as effective so I’m trying 5mg for my next dose. I’ve been very happy on low dose though.

Amazing that your dose worked for 3 months. I’d rather not have more side effects and also hope find it less of a difference when I stop altogether.

I never went higher than 3.75mg and lost 15.5kg

ChasingTheDuck · 26/02/2026 16:59

I've been on MJ for 14 months now.

First 4 months 2.5mg, next 8 months at 3.75, last two at a combination of 3.75, just over 4 or 5mg depending if it's my period week as my cravings hit higher then. I've lost 5 stone this way.

VioletandMauve · 26/02/2026 17:11

I’ve been on 2.5mg since mid October and am planning to stay on it. I didn’t have too much to lose and my BMI was just over 30…I’ve lost 24lbs so far, so not really fast but approximately 1.3lbs per week which I’m over the moon with. 2.5 works for me!

WeAllHaveWings · 26/02/2026 18:54

I moved from 2.5mg to 3.75mg because back in June 24 most providers were telling everyone 2.5mg was not a therapeutic dose and I wanted a gentle increase to 5mg.

Then I realised not all providers were saying that. I could probably have done the whole journey on 2.5mg, but I stuck with 3.75mg because it was working fine (much the same as 2.5mg was), I didn't want to risk "breaking" it and was quite happy with my 6 doses from each 5mg pen.

Only once did I consider increasing (when post Christmas 24 indulgences brought back cravings), but I got back into my routine by end of January 25 and didn't need to.

JabbaJibba · 26/02/2026 19:39

I'm coming up to my 1 year anniversary, I did 9 months on 2.5, 1 month on 3, and the last 2 months on 3.75mg. I've currently lost 6 stone 4lb.

Ice been on 2.5 since Sept and going to up it but I’m also weight lifting since I started so I’ve seen a change in body weight but I’d say not a huge weight difference but crazy changes to my body since weight lifting
and Mounjaro! I think I was 100kgs when I started and I’m about 95kgs now so that’s not a lot…it does make me eat less. But the 3.75mg might be my next step. We go away to India soon so I’ll do it after that.

ayegazumba · 26/02/2026 20:17

I’ve been on 2.5mg for about a year. I didn’t have loads to lose and now it’s really for maintenance. I still very much have an appetite but I am able to stop eating when I couldn’t before. Works for me perfectly.

I also don’t have a lot to lose so I will try and come off but will probably come to the same conclusion as you.

I think it’s too early to know how your body will react. Tolerance levels vary. I’ve lost 30lb since July. I lost a lot in the first couple of weeks on 2.5 but it didn’t stay that way. I gradually moved up the doses and I’m currently on 7.5 but not really losing, only a pound every few weeks. I think you need to give it a few more weeks and see how it goes and go up a dose if you need to. For every person who tells you they lost all their weight on 2.5 there will be a number of people who have taken higher doses. Either way, good luck with your weight loss.

wendywoopywoo222 · 26/02/2026 22:00

I started last April and I’m still on 2.5 which I take every 9/10 days. Am averaging 2 pounds a week and 6 stone 4 down. I can still eat normally but don’t have any desire for overeating. I plan on staying on it for ever hopefully and will just add more calories to maintain when I get to target. Two stone to go. Well that’s the plan anyway.

PearlsTeapot · 26/02/2026 22:02

I’ve lost 4 stone on 2.5.

To the pp saying about it being proven not it to be a therapeutic dose, they weren’t looking for it at a lower level. But it’s still the same medicine being put into a person, just less of it, so of course it can still work.

I’m now at 3.75 after 8 months on 2.5.

Ineedanewsofa · 26/02/2026 22:06

Me! 7 months in, 25kg down, 5kg to go, never gone up from 2.5mg.
For me it takes the edge off enough to allow me to stick to a calorie controlled, healthy diet without too much suppression and no side effects. I still get hungry (don’t be afraid of being hungry!) but the MJ stops me overeating as I feel fuller, quicker. My problem has always been the amount I eat and never feeling full, rather than what I was eating.
I think it has also had other benefits for me for inflammation, blood sugar and gynae issues but unfortunately can’t prove it (correlation is not causation and all that). I plan to do a full year, hopefully with the last 3 months as maintenance but we’ll see how it goes. I am prepared to stay on it for life if needed

WeAllHaveWings · 26/02/2026 23:11

Brightlittlecanary · 26/02/2026 19:39

It’s not the providers it’s the manufacturers and scientists; no therapeutic impact was found at 2.5 in trials.

2.5 mg was generally not the dose where statistically significant therapeutic benefits were measured and reported in trials - mainly because they didn’t measure it long term, the theory is very different from what many people in real life are experiencing.

What I meant was many providers, through lack of experience at the time, were parroting that from the manufacturers. Less do that now.

NotPerfectlyAdverage · 26/02/2026 23:17

I go up and down doses but mostly on 5mg 9 months in. I have a lot to loose. I think it depends on how much you have to loose. I'm balancing feeling like I'm making very slow progress v not wanting to become dependant on MJ long term.

SexyFrenchDepression · 26/02/2026 23:55

I have mostly been on 2.5 since Nov, a few weeks at 3.75mg within that. I get enough suppression on 2.5mg though. I started at BMI 28 12 stone and now weigh just under 9.5stone, BMI just under 23.

I had side effects for the first few weeks, then got nausea back again when I had a virus over xmas but generally just feel normal on the low dose, well other than being less hungry and full quicker.

I do feel hunger now but I dont mind that at all as its not hindering me staying in a calorie deficit. For the first 3 or 4 weeks I had to force myself to eat, the 2.5mg dose was so strong for me.

Kittkats · 27/02/2026 08:34

I lost 3 stone in 3 months last summer. 4 weeks on 2.5mg, 1 week on 5mg, down to 3mg for 2 weeks as supression too high on 5, then back to 2.5mg for a month, then 2.5mg every 10 days to wean off, stoping in November. I was able to maintain til Christmas hit, then put on 8lb in 2 overindulgent weeks so took another 4 weeks 2.5mg and lost it again. I’m about to wean off a second time.
