Read a thread about people with no gall bladder taking MJ. I was on it for 6 months then had pancreatitis. Having GB removed soon. Was writing off the £700 worth of MJ I still have, then saw people taking it who no longer have a GB. I’m terrified but curious. My GP does not know I was on it so I’d have to come clean. I’d rather give the MJ away than dump it though if I’m never going to use it. Am I crazy to even contemplate using it again? I have lost 2.5 stone since June but ironically I’ve lost about 12 pounds of that since having pancreatitis.

Why are you posting in AIBU? There is a whole board for WLI. I would not take it without medical advice, but I do know someone who is on it after gallbladder removal prescribed by her doctor.

AgentJohnson · 23/02/2026 05:48

This is the issue with these drugs, too many people are taking them without medical guidance. Talk to your GP for goodness sake! Soliciting the advice of unqualified people is just plain silly.

ScubaSteven · 23/02/2026 06:06

If you’re not being honest about your medical
issues then you shouldn’t be taking anything. What do you mean about having to ‘come clean’ to your Dr? I’m unsure about why you’d want to continue a drug which you reacted badly to, whilst withholding information from your dr (and the prescriber as presumably you’re obtaining it from somewhere). It’s not a dirty secret. You are ‘allowed’ to take it providing you pass the screeners by being honest.

Also, how have you managed to stockpile £700 of it? It isn’t as expensive as that and responsible prescribers will not allow bulk orders. Are you sure the Mounjaro you have is legit? Coupled with the reaction you’ve had, I’d be checking your provider.

Zanatdy · 23/02/2026 06:10

Do not use it. I have a life long pancreas disease after a gallstone damaged my pancreatic duct, I live in permanent pain, and had half of my pancreas removed a couple of years after GB. You’d be crazy to use it.

Sweetiedarling7 · 23/02/2026 06:29

Posting in the appropriate board would be helpful for a start.
However, I would strongly advise against taking the rest of your mounjaro given you have had pancreatitis and it would be utter madness not to be honest with your doctor.
The lack of gall bladder is an entirely separate issue.

PersephonePomegranate · 23/02/2026 06:37

Jesus Christ. How were you getting it in the first place if your GP is unaware?

Take some care over your health! This behaviour is reckless.

Most people get it from private providers and you don't have to consent to informing the GP

unsync · 23/02/2026 07:48

Not judging, just curious as to why you didn't tell your GP? My GP was very supportive. I know many people don't, I'd like to understand why. It's a POM so they really ought to know.

sorrynotathome · 23/02/2026 07:56

You had pancreatitis and no-one ever asked you about WLI use? I find that hard to believe, and wondering whether you lied about it. To contemplate taking WLI when you have already had pancreatitis is beyond stupid. You are very high risk of having it again. You should know that it can be fatal.

Newbie. No idea what WLI is and did not pick AIBU either. It appeared after posting. Maybe Mumsnet could include some helpful hints to avoid newbies being told off. I will go back to friendlier social media sites

part 2. I don’t need the condescension, especially when I am feeling so low after being in hospital and a close bereavement. Pardon me Shawna for daring to get it wrong.

I took Manjouro for 10 months, and I dont have a gall bladder. My provider was aware and I gave permission for my GP to be informed.

I had zero problems, so lack of a gall bladder is not necessarily an instant block to WLI

BackToWegovy · 23/02/2026 09:33

WLI is weight loss injections. The board is here and is full of very supportive people. AIBU is a whole different ball game - please don’t leave Mumsnet.

I am pretty sure you can take it with no gall bladder but I would be very cautious indeed with a history of pancreatitis. Definitely come clean about all of it to your GP and anyone who might be prescribing it to you. Don’t just start on your stash without medical advice.

It's not an airport. No need to announce your departure!

Binus · 23/02/2026 09:46

You need specialist advice. Who prescribed you the MJ in the first place? You could start there.

winnieanddaisy · 23/02/2026 09:49

I had my gallbladder out over 25 years ago . I’ve been on mounjaro for a year now , prescribed by my diabetic nurse and have had no problems.

Taking Mounjaro post-gallbladder removal is generally not a problem - I am, and my provider had no concerns. But I have never had pancreatitis. Taking Mounjaro with a history of pancreatitis is a very different story and I'd be surprised if you'd find any reputable providers willing to prescribe.

SilenceInside · 23/02/2026 10:26

@Ellabella75 you can report your own opening post, and ask Mumsnet to move it to the Weight Loss Treatments/Injections section where you are likely to get some relevant advice, and less confusion because people think you are asking if you are being unreasonable, when I think you are after support and advice.

IsItSnowing · 23/02/2026 11:12

There is no problem taking mj after having your gallbladder out. I had mine removed after a raging infection which landed me in hospital. Started taking mj 6 months later. Both my surgeon and my GP said no problem at all.

I didn't have pancreatitis and mine was all before taking mj so that may change things. You really do need to consult your GP although mostly mine is uninterested to be honest. Whoever is treating you for the gallbladder issues would be a better person to ask.

I found the surgeon much more informed and prepared to engage on the subject although the pharmacist who does my asthma reviews has also been supportive of my taking it.

RedApplePie · 23/02/2026 11:12

Hello, I see you had a hard time in AIBU. To answer your qu, gall bladder surgery isn’t usually a contraindication AFTER you’ve recovered and got the ok. However, I believe a history of pancreatitis is more problematic and you may well not be able to take it again. It is something you need proper medical advice about. If your GO isn’t an option I’d make an appt with a local pharmacy who prescribes it -many now do - and have a chat with them. After a break you will certainly need to reduce dose so jabbing with what you have won’t be the answer.

Ellabella75 · 25/02/2026 20:59

Thanks to those folk who posted intelligent responses. My MJ is from Asda pharmacy after an assessment and photos. I find the GP I have impossible to get appts with. They would not prescribe on NHS either.

To those know it all, condescending, judgemental folk who were so unpleasant and rude, GFY. I will now close this account. If motherhood makes you so vile, I pray your child takes after your OH, not you. I also feel sorry for the child as their life must be hell living with Mrs Perfect.
