Hi everyone! Hope everyone is having a great term break.
i’m thinking about starting Mounjaro but feeling a bit anxious. Could someone please let me know of the side effects that you had and how do you manage them? I already have a bit of constipation issue, so I’m just scared that I’ll make it worse.
also, what happens to all the fat on your body? Does it just hang loose when you loose the weight?
I’m 5ft 7in with BMI 33.

I'm in a different position as I am prescribed MJ by my GP to control my blood sugar. I wasn't obese when I started, my BMI was 27, so weight loss was incidental to me. That said, I have lost 20kg and my BMI is now 21. Best of all, my blood sugar is now back to normal.

I found the first dose horrendous. I had such an upset stomach that I shat myself in a work meeting. Thank God it was online. I still get a (mild) upset stomach 48 hours after each shot but it's manageable.

Skin tone etc is like any diet. I'm post menopausal so my skin has lost elasticity.

It amazed me at how well it controlled blood sugars, my mums levels were normal within a week. We were so shocked. She was only borderline with her diabetes (issues caused by cancer meds so her consultant put her on it) but even so it made a huge difference to her.

@Frostinest can I ask, are you counting calories and are you eating under your TDEE? And are you eating a healthy diet? These WLIs help you to do those things but they don’t make weight disappear.
What does your diet look like, maybe some posters on here could give you some tips to help.

So, I think this is the most disheartening part of my experience - I'm trying! I have been on many diets so I feel like I have a good grasp on what to eat etc but the problem has always been sticking to it and snacking, as I get very 'hungry' and am looking for something always.

So I hoped the jabs would be able to keep me on track, and I could make the choice to have a chicken salad and not need crisps and chocolate afterwards to feel full. Or have a stir fry with lots of protein and veg and then be able to have a smaller amount of rice. I wanted it / hoped it / was led to believe it would be a great tool which helped me to keep on track and make better choices because it would stop my cravings. But that just hasn't happened. I am still looking for 'something' to eat. Perhaps less - especially on days 2 and 3 I feel like I am snacking/eating less but I wouldn't say it's a huge difference.

So at this point I feel like I'm just on another diet that is just my willpower against the world - which I have been on before - but my heart's not really in it so that might explain the slow progress.

Maybe it'll change. Maybe I'm just a slow starter. Maybe.

From what you are saying just dieting hasnt been successful for you though? Most people can't sustain dieting for long periods so that is what the jabs help with, also as shown on the WLI boards side effects for most are minimal. On the jabs losing 1-2lbs a week is sustainable for months so no need for crash dieting or fads.

You still have to eat less on the jabs, you will only lose weight in a calorie deficit. Its just a very good aid, and life changing for many, most of which have more than a stone to loss, people losing 10+ stone are in a very different position to you. A little bit of nausea and tiredness for the 1st week or two is manageable for most (not all as the side effects vary hugely but high % are ok)

Thank you the query wasn’t for me I have successfully lost 3st through traditional methods and I am just carrying a few more pounds at the moment which I will address. My weight usually remains stable this excess has come over Christmas and a holiday. I actually would not even consider the jabs for me I don’t even like taking paracetamol unless absolutely necessary. My addiction to chocolate and sweet stuff causes my excess I have never ate huge quantities of food.I normally eat quite healthy.

Sorry, I kind of mixed up your post. 1 stone to lose compared to many stones and people who have huge struggles is just not the same though, I totally understand why you wouldn't want them for you of course.

I was the same as you till 5 years ago, and have lost over 30lb before on my own in my 20s, the sweet crap is also one of my big issues (as well as life long disordered eating and eating as a reward/consolidation).

I was BMI 28 so not massively overweight but its still been life changing for me.

One thing I’ve learned is your heart needs to be in it. If it’s not you’re just wasting money, so I’d stop and when you get to th4 stage you really want to lose it, like it’s more important to you to be slim than it is to have the extra food, then start again,

Bulbsbulbsbulbs · 24/02/2026 11:38

My only side effect was constipation for one day!

What dose are you on now?

But that's just dieting? If it was as simple as my heart being in it I'd have lost the weight years ago.

My heart is in it - I do want to eat better, I do want to lose the weight - but surely the jabs are the key to that by allowing my brain to be satisfied after a healthy, proportionate meal?

That seems to be the story I've been getting from friends and posters on other forums. That yes, they had to do the work and watch what they were eating but that the jabs made that much easier. I've seen friends drop pounds and pounds in a matter of weeks and they're saying how easy it was so I don't think we're having the same experience. It is not 'life changing' for me.

Anyway, don't want to completely derail OP's post, just wanted to give her a different perspective

Do you need a higher dose?

Frostinest · 24/02/2026 12:00

Claudiahit · 24/02/2026 08:45

@Frostinest ,id switch to mounjaro if I were you, it's a double agonist, and usually more effective than wegovy.

I'd like to but I can't afford it. I've already had to make quite a lot of sacrifices to get Wegovy. This is, as they say, quite literally as far as I can go.

Frostinest · 24/02/2026 12:02

Binus · 24/02/2026 11:58

I'm on the second to last dose and haven't felt (m)any effects so far. Next pen I'll request the highest dose and see

PearlsTeapot · 24/02/2026 16:26

@Frostinest how much are you paying for wegovy? Is it much different to the lowest dose of mounjaro? You can get 2.5mg for £103 https://monj.co.uk/discount-mounjaro-price-list/ I've lost 4 stone on this dose.

And if you are willing to use it past the 30 days (as I do, and many others) a 5mg dose which is £150 or less if you switch around can last 8+ weeks. So it can be quite costly effective.

Yes that's true I suppose. I could try that. Currently I'm following the prescribed amounts and not counting clicks at all.

Does your provider not ask you why you're not reordering every 4 weeks?

I currently am ordering every month still but once I am at target I won't. There are lots of maintenance suppliers who are happy to supply less regularly.

Swift, Pharmulus and Bolt i believe do a 12 month limit. Also Curely I think who do a subscription you can pause.
