I’ve been trying to lose weight for many years - currently 43 and around 17 stone.
I’ve tried slimming world, weight watchers etc and always struggle to stick to them after the first few weeks. I’m active and train regularly with a PT, but still can’t stop binge eating. I’ve concluded that WLI are my only realistic option but am not sure whether they will stop me binge eating if I’m not really eating due to hunger? Also, I’m reluctant to give up my training but is this realistic when taking the injections?
Any input from those taking the injections always would be much appreciated!

If WLI work for you, then it will in all likelihood stop the bingeing. It was like a switch was flipped for me, from day one of Mounjaro. Many people don't get it straight away like I did, but find that it builds as they work through the first few weeks as the medication increases in your system. Some it may take the higher doses to kick it. A small percentage of people find that it never really works for them.

I ate due to hunger, but also due to boredom, stress, tiredness, sadness, etc etc. That has all stopped for me. I eat when I need to, and enjoy what I eat.

In terms of exercise, there are other posters here who are more expert, but I restarted running, after I had lost enough weight to make it safe. I completed C25K and now run 3 times a week, and do a lot of walking in between. You should be able to continue exercising. If you are finding it hard to eat much at all, then that's a sign to reduce your dose and certainly not to move up a dose level.

Thank you @SilenceInside, that’s so helpful.
Can I ask whether you had any side effects at all? I think I’ll be using Wegovy rather than Mountjaro due to cost.

I had some gastric issues when I moved up from 2.5mg to 5mg, after the first 4 weeks. In retrospect with a lot more experience now, I probably didn't need to move up to 5mg straight away. I was having high appetite suppression and no side effects so there wasn't really a need to move up. I then moved up much more gradually to 7.5mg by taking partial doses, but again looking back I could have stayed on 5mg... I had another round of gastric side effects on 7.5mg, but short lived and manageable both times. Since then I've been absolutely fine, and it's been over 18 months now. I was 22st when I started, so knew I was going to be on it for the long haul.

Thanks again!

I started on wegovy 3 weeks ago and it has been amazing for me. I could still binge but I can't be bothered. I'm never really hungry and my portion size is half of what I'm used to having.
I'm on the lowest dose with no side effects whatsoever.

no you don't need to give up training, quite the opposite - very important to do resistance training not to lose muscle mass.

BlueSkies81 · 06/02/2026 15:41

Thanks @HeidiLite. I get that it’s really important - I suppose my question was more to do with how feasible it is to train in the same way as I’ve heard a lot of people are very tired on WLI, at least when they first start taking them?

personally never had any issues, but sure people are different.

You shouldn’t have to give up the training if you are planning and eating the right foods to fuel you. You’re not meant to starve on the injections so unless you do you’ll just be line anyone else losing weight - most of whom exercise to do so in part.

Ive never been particularly tired on WLI.

PearlTeapot · 06/02/2026 20:05

I've not heard of people being overly tired?

If anything I had more energy from the start as I found it made me want to eat 'clean' (mainly to avoid side effects, of which I never had any except constipation) which encouraged me to exercise.

It was like a switch in my head. I haven't binged and haven't wanted to since I started on them in May.

Hopefully you'll have a good experience on them if you decide to go for it. Good luck!

If the meds work you won’t want to binge, you will feel bagged up and full. Snd I never had tiredness, I’d guess that’s folks not eating enough. Or maybe having a bad reaction

I started exercising a month before taking Mounjaro. I started at 19st 3lbs, hadn't exersed in over 6 years and was completely sedentary (desk job) so any type of movement was beneficial.
I started with Zumba & Aqua Aerobics, and the 20 minute walk to and from the gym for first couple of months was enough to get me fitter to add more classes like Pump, Rebounding, weight lifting/body conditioning and kettlebells.

I think because of the exercise I have a higher amount of inch loss (waist 6 inches) compared to the amount of weight I've lost - 33lbs in 5 months
