Does anyone miss looking forward to food?

Sounds odd but after almost three months on mounjaro now I’m started to miss looking forward to food. Eating something nice when the kids were in bed used to be something to look forward to, whether it be dinner if we hadn’t eaten with them or a snack, and now I don’t want anything, but I almost want to want something if that makes sense? Like I wish I wanted a take away so I had that to be excited about, but I just don’t.

Don’t get me wrong I have lots of other things in life which I enjoy and get excited about, but I don’t think I realised how important food was to me until I stopped wanting it.

Any tips on how to get past this? It’s made me feel a bit miserable at the weekend which I know sounds ridiculous! I think it’s probably because I’ve taken my highest dose so far so feeling more suppression for the first time.

Like a PP I am absolutely relieved by the lack of food noise. I’ve always kept my dose low and had great suppression at the start which I welcomed as it helped get the job done. Though I definitely would qualify for the plodders club. Now I’m titrating down some hunger occurs but amazingly no food noise. I love being able to ignore the hunger. And I’m another who is getting my dopamine hit from clothes. I’ve always loved them but have now realised how restricted I felt by my size.

This is one of the reasons I stayed on as low a dose as possible for as long as possible. I still love food, just different food. I get excited by pulses and protein now, and still cook lunch and dinner from scratch.

I still go out for meals and really enjoy it. I just don't need to eat massive portions, and don't want unhealthy food.

I also realise I saw food as a treat/reward, and I am breaking that relationship while acknowledging I need the rewards as it's how I'm wired. However, the rewards don't need to be food related, other things are just as rewarding.

It will subside eventually. I felt like you for the first year of MJ. Roll on 18 months & I look forward to eating out again. I still get the good side effects but they are more muted.
Before MJ I could get ravenously hungry which sometimes led to binge eating. That has still gone thankfully.

I am seriously considering going on WLI but my issue is l eat even when not hungry - so even if the food noise goes away, how do l stop myself eating?

I think many of us ate when we weren’t hungry. I know that it stopped for me as soon as I started Mounjaro. It’s kind of hard to describe, but I just forgot about snacking and food, and I only remembered to eat at mealtimes because I knew I should.

I still like food but the desire for volume has gone. Gone are the days when I can order a curry and a naan bread and eat it. I can eat 4-5 bites of curry and about a quarter of a naan and really enjoy it.

@illsendansostotheworld I find that towards the end of the week I still can sometimes eat when not hungry, but even then it’s smaller portions. I think there is also something to be said for the fact you’re paying a lot of money so you want to do what you can to make it work!

I do find it hard when I've prepared a meal for me and DH which before I would've devoured and can only just about get thru the small portion I've dished up for myself- but then I guess that is the whole point of going onto WLIs in the first place! I'm on Wegovy now, switched 4 weeks ago due to MJ cost and it's still pretty much the same. Bigger issue for me in the beginning was trying to adjust food buying- I was really shocked how much less I needed to buy and it took a while to adjust everything including portion cooking, to avoid constant waste 🙈

You may well find it changes on WLI. I frequently ate when not hungry. I literally don't now. That to me was part of food noise- it still speaking to me when I absolutely didn't have hunger pangs!

It’s like a switch in my head. When I’m not hungry, I don’t think about food really. If it’s on offer in front of me I might be tempted but I can only physically eat much less than I used to. Definitely no binging.

This is one of the reasons why I’d never do it. Food is one of life’s great pleasures. Plus the awful, haggard faces of people I see around me who used to be a few pounds overweight and now look like Cruella DeVill. And the money. And the fact that I’d be reliant on a drug for the rest of my life. And not knowing the long term side effects…

Runningtowards · 15/02/2026 16:31

Yes! So much so that for months and months now I’ve been skipping injections. I loved it at first but then I’ve got sick of….feeling mild nausea for a couple of days and just having to force myself to eat. It’s boring! I feel I’m just wasting money now, I need to do it properly or not at all.

Impressive to get almost all the bingo items in one post!

Mate. Don’t come on a thread on the WLI board, which is asking for opinions from those taking WLI, then state you’ve never taken them and never will, make offensive misogynistic remarks and make bollocks incorrect remarks about ‘not knowing long term effects’ (hint: GLPs have been prescribed for about 25 years).
