Just about to start my GLP-1 adventure and would be interested to know from the old hands here what your non-scale victories have been so far? I’m hoping for weightloss, sure, but am also hoping there are some unexpected other benefits of the journey so please share yours. Thanks

So great to hear all these stories. I’m scared but also excited now!

Nothing to be scared of, perfectly safe drugs, over 50 million on globally. Glp’s first trialled in the 80s, and been in use for over two decades. You start on a low half dose and if you don’t like it you don’t take another one.

very few don’t like it 😀

DGmaintaining · 01/02/2026 20:08

I can wear what I like now.
I don’t get out of breath walking uphill.
I can do full body press ups off the floor.
I don’t get hot in heatwaves.
I can stop after one biscuit.

Being able to wear my wedding ring again ❤️

This is what I came to say! 😍

Marypoppinsisnosaint · 02/02/2026 07:24

I'm coming up to my year anniversary on mj. 5 and a half stone gone!

For me the biggest one is I'm now back sleeping with my DH. My snoring was so bad we weren't getting any sleep and if we didn't sleep separately I honestly believe it would have been a divorce for us.

When it snowed we took the kids sledging, guess who could also now have a turn? Me!! The kids absolutely loved the fact I'd joined in. Their little faces will always be engrained in my memory.

And of course all of the other things, being able to shop anywhere, seeing my collar bone!, walk upstairs without getting out of breath, completed c25k, the list goes on and on.

Go for it Op, I'm annoyed at myself for not doing it sooner ☺️

I can't say for certain that there's a link but my menstrual migraines have gotten less frequent and severe since I have been on WLIs

Seahorsesplendour · 02/02/2026 08:17

I’m over 5st down 2 st to go!

sleep better

feel incredible, deal better with stress

no reflux

can wear bra’s and be comfortable

loving working out

love walking & generally being active with dc

its great when clothes that have gathered dust in a box for years fit then become too big

make sure to measure as well as weigh as plenty of times when the scales haven’t moved the measuring tape has!!

good luck it’s quite a journey!!!

I highly recommend Lucy Wyndham-Read on you tube for exercise that you can do from the get go.

Being able to wear my wedding ring again ❤️

I’m so looking forward to this one! 💖
I have only been jabbing since October op. I turn 50 this year and thought, it’s now or never!

So far:
I’ve lost 2.5 stone
I’m at the gym 3 x a week - this is reshaping my body, I feel so much stonger, and my posture has improved.🏋🏻‍♀️

I’m less achy in my joints - thought this was perimenopause but it seems lifting weights and losing weight has sorted that out! ☺️

I’m not drinking and do not crave alcohol - which makes me feel so much happier, sleep better, less health concerns

I’m down a size in clothes - and realised that I had been squeezing into my size 18 clothes - so was probably about to go up another size if I hadn’t taken action.

I’m sticking to the lower doses and will aim to come off in the summer I think.
I’m SO looking forward to summer wardrobe shopping this year and not feeling horribly self conscious on the beach!

I did have a lot if concerns about starting WLIs and have had a few managable side effects. I am also very mindful of coming off and thinking about how I’ll manage to maintain. But overall I’d say the benefits have outweighed the negatives (a bit of constipation to begin with, tiredness, nausea and vomiting once)

Dealing with people questioning me about my weight loss was a big thing for me, as I find it really intrusive. but I’m getting better at just shutting them down.

Great idea for a thread OP 👏

TheActualQueen · 02/02/2026 09:37

@MarypoppinsisnosaintDH is the snorer here and ends up in the spare room too. He’s started losing now as well and I am really hopeful he’ll be able to move back in - I miss him! 🤞

Marypoppinsisnosaint · 02/02/2026 13:43

@TheActualQueen honestly the fact I missed him so much and felt so lonely sleeping on my own gave me the push to order it in the first place. I remember so clearly it was gone midnight and I just thought I've nothing to lose.

Fingers crossed 🤞 the snoring also stops for your DH.

HeidiLite · 02/02/2026 19:45

sports so much easier and I barely sweat even when working out hard - I used to be soaked in sweat.

my massive boobs have shrunk into a very manageable 30DD, so I can wear normal sports bras and built in bra tops, instead of industrial scaffolding. Normal bikinis instead of special horribly expensive big bust ranges.

Skirts, dresses and shorts and no chub rub!

It's sooooo much easier to look well dressed, put together and elegant when you are not assessing all clothes from their gut-hiding perspective.

Photos with DC. I used to delete them all, because I hated how I looked. Had weight blindness so thought I looked OK, just that photos were all terribly unflattering..

twilightcafe · 02/02/2026 20:14

The emergence of bones! I can't stop feeling my collarbones and I am beginning to feel shoulder bones.

I had to take two train journeys this weekend. I thought the seats were broken - it's just that I can feel the bones in my bottom.

I tried on size 16 jeans in River Island not expecting them to fit. They did up easily. I was a size 20 in August.

HereIGoOnceMore · 02/02/2026 20:26

Thanks @HeidiLite- I’d forgotten that chub rub is no longer a thing, but it’s great isn’t?

PurrfectFloof · 02/02/2026 20:29

A lot of these resonate - the joyful surprise at the smaller sizes fitting comfortably, and the renewed energy - but honestly the most important one is I like myself now ☺️ I’ve realised how I used to hide in rubbish clothes because deep down I felt I wasn’t ‘worthy’ of buying nice things for myself and how I was constantly aware that other people's first impression would be ‘she’s fat’, rather than anything else. I’ve shed those feelings and am really proud of myself; it’s a nice feeling to back myself again.

ShrankLastWinter · 02/02/2026 21:00

Frivolous lacy bras

Plane flights are so much more comfortable

Feet don’t hurt

No more hot and sweaty

Being able to wear my wedding ring again ❤️

I've always worn my wedding ring but now I can slip it off when I threaten divorce 😂
And yes. No chub rub is a joy!
