Inspired by another thread, this is for those of us who are weight training for WLI maintenance or weight loss, or those who want support and handholding getting started with weight training

Wow @FirstDayonthePlanet! That’s serious commitment and consistency! How are you feeling on it?

so good! I’m not sure I’m seeing any difference in body composition yet but I can’t get over the fact that I enjoy it and actually want to go (usually, obviously some occasions when I’ve had to drag myself in).
my goal is to do an unassisted pull up and based on the current rate of progress that might not be until next March! But the fact that I’m certain I’ll still be going next year -barring unforeseen life disasters- is a first for me.
And the time will pass anyway (if I’m lucky), may as well spend it getting better at pull ups!

chin ups are improving but proper pull-ups not much yet. I can do about half..

I do find chin ups slightly easier!

I’m using the assisted pull up machine so I know for each rep I’m lifting 28kg of my own body weight, the rest assisted by the counter weight.

the amount of assistance reduces in 5kg increments though, which is a big jump for pull ups, but I moved down (up?) an increment last week. So at a rate of 5kg improvement per 8weeks it will literally take me a year to be completely unassisted at my current body weight, (which I’m absolutely fine with).

I managed to get to a 15kg counter weight and then found it hard to make more progress. I did a lot of back strengthening exercises (various rows as well as lat pulldowns from different angles). I can now do 5-6 pull ups and 9-10 chin ups (unassisted).
