Mounjaro or Wegovy? Please help! Experiences please 🙏

So I’ve decided to take the plunge….i just can’t decide on Mounjaro or Wegovy! I’ve been going round and round for days and I keep reading contradicting info that is giving me a headache 😖
I have 3st to lose.
My biggest worry is the side effects closely followed by price.
Please can you tell me the following:

  1. Which one did you choose and why?
  2. Side effects? How bad? How did you deal with them?

I’d also love to know if anyone managed to lose enough on the lower doses that they didn’t need to go for the higher doses? I think if I was to opt for Mounjaro then I wouldn’t be able to afford the highest doses 😢

I’m not worried about fast weight loss, slow and steady is fine. What I’m looking for is something to shut out the food noise, sugar cravings and binge eating so that I can gain enough headspace and clarity to start eating right and focus on getting healthy again.

I’d love to hear some real life experiences to help me decide 🙏

Personally, Wegovy did absolutely nothing for me, so I had a break for a few mo the and then tried Mounjaro. It started working pretty much right away even on the 2.5mg dose.

No major side effects either either. A little bit of fatigue and I’d feel sick if I ate the wrong thing, but that’s all.

Whatstfpoint · 18/01/2026 11:39

I just ordered my second month of wegovy on the lowest dose. Side effects were headaches after injection and dizziness. I feel full quicker and for longer, so decided to do a second month on the lowest dose.

W is the inferior one and I decided to see if it works on me and it does. For some reason I really did want to know. I can always switch to M should I stall. I haven't heard of anyone who has lost weight on W but then not on M, but I have seen plenty of reports the other way around.

Im also cheap. When trying something new I like to start low priced and work my way up if need be. Saves a fortune over many things over a long time.

rainandshine38 · 18/01/2026 11:41

Wegovny works for me. It’s slow but I’ve lost 11llbs in 3 months and I’m still on 1mg. Not many side effects at all.

Stasis26 · 18/01/2026 11:43

The simple difference is Wegovy is GLP1 and Mounjaro is GLP1 plus GIP.

The GLP1 in both provides the satiety and prevents overeating, you naturally have smaller portions and get full quicker.

The GIP seems to be the ingredient that is more responsibly for managing ‘food noise’ and the urge to snack and graze.

as the latter was my main issue Mounjaro was the better choice. It’s also got better overall % loss outcomes.

If you are fortunate that cost isn’t a limiting factor then Mounjaro every time in my opinion. But if it is then Wegovy has been very effective too for many.

@WatchingWongFilms thank you for responding 🙂 What sort of things are you eating? I’d be so scared of eating the wrong thing and making myself ill so I need to do some more research on that.

And my side effects were minimal, really mild nausea in the early months the day after injecting and mild constipation. All easily resolved. Have a browse through the many threads but remember people are more likely to create side effect specific posts for support if they have issues - try the long monthly support threads for a more balanced view and to hear just how many people are completely unbothered by any significant side effects.

Whatstfpoint · 18/01/2026 11:47

I do have quite a lot of food noise on W, but physically I'm limited in what and how much I can actually eat. The food noise is a bit less than without it, but I need to learn to handle it better anyway so I can't see a benefit of not having it at all. I'd be so scared of when it comes back and I still haven't learnt a thing.

@Whatstfpoint that’s a good way of looking at it. The price of Mounjaro is a little bit crazy tbf 😵‍💫

@Stasis26 that is all really useful info, thank you 🙏 That’s interesting that the GIP is what’s helping with food noise and urges as that’s deffo what I need help with!

I’m vegan so I mostly eat whole foods, plants and pulses. It only happened a handful of times and it was always when I had greasy junk food or a too large portion of mash, so really easy to avoid!

HundredMilesAnHour · 18/01/2026 12:18

I started with MJ and moved to W when the MJ prices went through the roof, and now I’ve stopped completely as W doesn’t agree with me at all.

MJ worked for me (especially for stopping food noise) and I lost most of the weight I needed on it. I did struggle with the side effects though as it seemed to give me an almost permanent headache and I felt very tired most of the time. Luckily I was able to work from home for much of the time which helped a little.

I switched to W last year due to the increased cost of MJ and that hasn’t been a success for me at all. I’ve actually gained weight (despite not changing my diet i.e. eating the same as when I was on MJ and losing weight). More significantly for me, I have felt ill the entire time I was on W. I actually thought I had some sort of bug at first as I just felt rough constantly, and it was only when I had a longer than usual gap in taking my W injections and I suddenly felt so much better that the penny dropped that it was the W making me feel so ill. I persisted in taking it and continued feeling ill. So ill that working was a struggle and I was worried it might cost me my job. So I tried having another longer gap between W injections and again, I felt so much better. That confirmed it was the W making me feel so rough all the time so I’ve now stopped completely.

I have 2 friends who started on W (at the same time as I started on MJ) and they both stopped within a couple of months because it made them feel too ill.

I’m usually pretty hardcore with any illness / side effects and just grit my teeth and get on with it. For example, in the past I’ve come off anti-depressants cold turkey (I wouldn’t recommend doing this!) and it was grim but I got through it. So for me to stop W because it was making me feel so ill is a sign of just how bad it was for me.

So now I’m financially worse off and 4kg heavier. Thanks Wegovy.😡

It’s still early days but if I can’t maintain my current weight through diet and exercise, I will consider going back to MJ if I can find a way of covering the high cost. But I wouldn’t touch Wegovy with a barge pole. I still have some W sitting in my fridge and I scowl at it when I open the fridge door (not productive I know!) as it feels like £££ sitting there laughing at me. 🙄

letshavetea · 18/01/2026 12:37

@InstantRegret I replied to your other thread in quite some detail. Only you can decide which one to take (W or MJ). As pp have said M has two active ingredients and has one. M has GLP and GIP. For that reason I chose M and have decided to stay on it. Fortunately I can afford it.

Instead of being scared of wli’s if you look at it the other way, I think the risks of being overweight (for me) are far greater!

Re what to eat, if you go with a reputable pharmacy they’ll most likely have lots of dietary and nutritional advice (mine does - it’s Oushk). I find Tim Spector’s Zoe advice and podcasts are the absolute best re nutrition. I did summarise what I eat in my post to you on my reply to your other thread. It’s basically - eat lots of plants, lots of protein (at every meal), full fat dairy, nuts, seeds, pulses and whole grains. Low carb. Avoid UPFs. Drink lots of water. Cook from scratch. That’s it. Take your measurements from the start and weigh weekly. Use a tracker to record progress. Do some exercise - strength training and walking are good.

@letshavetea yes you did and I really appreciate your input 🙂 I guess I made this thread for more of an insight into other peoples experiences now that I’ve made up my mind to go for it and to ask different questions but perhaps I didn’t need to make a second thread to do this 🤦‍♀️ I’m new to this so not really au fait with the way it’s done 😆

@InstantRegret - it’s no problem. I get how you must be feeling. It’s really okay though, best decision I’ve ever made to go on MJ. Good luck. Please come back and let us know how you get on. You’ll find joining the January starters thread (or Feb if that’s when you begin) is helpful. There used to be a very good continuing Mounjaro thread which isn’t active any more which I found very good when I was at at your stage.

I have only ever used MJ….started in July 2025 and even now remain on 5mg, never felt need to increase dosage. Weight loss started off 2/3lbs per week and after a couple of months has been steady 1lb a week or thereabouts, so it hasn’t massively reduced quickly but that’s kind of what I want….slow and steady and enables me to make other lifestyle changes too. I also signed up with a couple of providers (Oushk and MedExpress) so swap between them, as I find I tend to get voucher codes from them if they haven’t had an order in a while which helps keep price down too…

HeartyBlueRobin · 18/01/2026 15:42

I've lost 3 stone since starting Mounjaro in August. I have only really had a bit of constipation which was easily addressed.

I was on 2.5 mg for a few months before increasing to 3.3 mg where I've stayed. That was the dose left in the pen and, as it works well for me, I never went up to 5 mg.

I chose mounjaro simply because it suggested a greater weight loss. If I'd known the price was going to increase so much or that there'd be a Wegovy 7.2 mg dose, I'd have started with Wegovy. Nearly all the American celebrities lost weight on Ozempic (aka Wegovy) so it definitely works.

Essentially I'd go with the cheapest option starting out.

@DoGoThere this is really helpful, thank you. It’s good to hear that you lost weight staying on a lower dose! That’s kind of what I’m hoping for as I can’t afford the higher doses of MJ really, bit of a stretch 😬 Yes voucher codes sound really useful! I’m currently on the hunt for a Voy one.. I think 🙏

It seems a lot of people alter the doses slightly to suit, no idea how that’s done but another thing I’ll look into, thank you 🙂

I went for MJ as I wanted to give myself the best chance of losing the weight. I had just under 2 stone to lose to get to top of healthy BMI and 1 stone to get to target.

I have not needed more than 2.5mg, I had a few weeks of 3.75 but went back down. I am now doing 2.5mg doses from 5mg pens (not officially recommended but many do it).

I have lost over 2 stone since 1st November.

I would consider going onto Wegovy for maintenance if need be.

SexyFrenchDepression · 20/01/2026 12:26

Side effects wise I had nausea till about week 3, I get the odd bouts now and then but always keep peptobismol in. For me its worth every penny and the nausea is worth it for the results.

I chose Mounjaro as I heard weight loss was quicker - ie: cheaper.

Two weeks in and I’ve lost 8lb.

I’m a perimenopausal fitness freak, but have struggled to get down to my minimum healthy weight for several years. I’m only planning on doing it for three months at this rate. I’ll find it easy to maintain without WLI. Absolutely no side effects at all. Just have to remember to eat and drink enough. I’m going up to 5ml for month two, hopefully it will be side effect free too.
