Mounjaro didn’t work, Should I try Wegovy

I moved up to 5mg on Mounjaro, I had no suppression of appetite at all. I did however get terrible diarrhoea when I moved to 5mg and i stopped it.

Any ideas on anything else I could try?

Well, yes, you could definitely try Wegovy. It may suit you better. Some people find, either with Mounjaro or Wegovy, that they don't get the full effects till higher doses. A small percentage it never works for.

littlemousebigcheese · 15/01/2026 13:13

Lost the most on mounjaro but preferred wegovy as it was cheaper and I had no side effects.

Nunenco · 15/01/2026 13:35

Prefer Wegovy. Mounjaro made me feel too sick to eat which is the only reason I lost weight on them. Chucked the last pen in the bin with several doses left in it. Wegovy gives me suppression which I never got from Mounjaro. Not needed a higher than 1mg dose to get good suppression.

Mysticmaiden · 16/01/2026 19:47

I moved from 10mg mj to 1.7mg wegovy. Wegovy has been better as its resolved the side effects that I had on mj of exhaustion/constant lethargy, significant hair loss, low mood and nausea. I get stronger suppression and satiety with wegovy too. I occasionally had diarrhoea on mj when I ate pizza so high fat foods.

Chinsupmeloves · 16/01/2026 19:51

I thought mj was better for reducing side effects? It does mkae me feel sick and I am when I drink alcohol so it works in that way. Xx

5mg isn’t an active dose - it’s still in the loading phase. Lots of people find it works here, but most find the active dose is 7.5mg.

Maybe go up again?

Sunshineandrainbow · 16/01/2026 23:07

Can anyone recommend a good place to buy wegovy from please?

No thats not correct. 2.5mg is the starting, not “loading”, dose and isn’t intended to produce weight loss. 5mg is a standard dose, tested in the clinical trials and shown to produce significant weight loss. Many people find they lose plenty of weight on 5mg and don’t need to move up at all or for a fair while.

7.5mg is one of the stepping up doses, used in the clinical trials to move peiple to 10mg which was the dose (along with 5 and 15mg) that was studied and reported on at the end of the trial. But, in real world usage, you can stay on 7.5mg or any dose, for as long as you like and it’s working for you.

All the doses are “active” in that they have an effect on your body.

@Sunshineandrainbow try any of the pharmacies listed on igovy.co.uk - they will all be GPhC registered and inspected.

Interested to hear this. I have very little side effects on MJ. I've lost 48.5lbs, decent suppression and can eat anything in moderation. I have had fatigue since increasing to 7.5mg though and have considerable hair loss. Thankfully it's not noticeable but I see it when I wash/dry.

ToddlerTornado · 17/01/2026 10:02

If I didn’t have any appetite suppression at all on 5mg of Mounjaro, I’m wondering whether Wegovy works in the same way and if it’s worth me trying?

Also, does the injection site on your body make a difference?

Try it.
I tried saxenda a few years ago and it made me really ill so I was scared to try MJ but I get along great with it.

LilyBunch25 · 17/01/2026 10:08

I lost a stone on Mounjaro over 4 months but when I went up to 7.5 the suppression reduced and the side effects increased 😒 Transferred to Wegovy a month ago, have only lost 2lb however as I'd plateaud on MJ in its final month that was actually an improvement. Loss definitely slower but suppression pretty good; only downside for me is very tired for first two days after jabbing- on MJ it was for the first day after. But overall if you take account also of the price difference it was the best move. Will see how loss goes going forward.

I think its different for everyone because I lost the most on 2.5.

SilenceInside · 17/01/2026 10:26

@ToddlerTornado injection site hasn’t been shown to particularly make a difference, I think there’s been one small study about Mounjaro and injection sites which didn’t show much between them in terms of perceived effects or side effects.

Wegovy is a GLP1 agonist, so it mimics the natural hormone that your body produces. Mounjaro does the same but also has another action which mimics a hormone called GIP which is also involved in hunger/appetite. Hence it being more effective at producing weight loss. But as they are different, some people may find they get on better with one over the other. It will be very individual. So you could give Wegovy a try and see how you get on with it.

@LilyBunch25 the point I was making was not about the variation in individual response, which of course is different for everyone. It was about the medication doses, what they are and what was studied about them.

For the vast majority of people, on any weight loss programme whether via medication or not, weight loss is fastest at first and then gradually slows down. It has to, as it becomes harder to create a significant calorie deficit as weight reduces. What has been shown in the clinical trials is that the higher doses of Mounjaro and Wegovy produce more weight loss overall than the lower doses.
