Pre-Mounjaro Diet Plan

As someone with a relatively bad(ish) diet (enough to get a BMI of 30+ 🫣), previous iron deficiencies, chronic constipation, and perimenopausal hair thinning, I'm considering the idea of a 2-week diet + supplement plan prior to starting Mounjaro. I thought if I could get myself into a stronger nutritional position with better gut health first, I'd be doing myself a favour.

Has anyone else done anything similar, or did you all just go for it?

I think its certainly sensible to read up lots about good diet whilst on WLI, to learn why prioritising protein is essential, the importance of enough fibre, the potential nasty side effects of too much rich food, hydration, etc.

But the only real thing i set myself to do was to try avoid UPFs when i started. I then found the MJ made it difficult for me to tolerate junk food, my stomach just didnt like it. And the appetite suppressing made me have zero interest in grabbing a packet of crips or shoving half a pack of biscuits in my mouth.

I haven't had my gut health tested (didn't really know it was a thing a year or so ago), but i assume my microbiome is probably much healthier now as i eat a really wide variety of plants and veg, try an incorporate some fermented foods, and avoid emulsifiers & preservatives.

I’m not sure there is any point for 2 weeks. Just start eating healthy when you start the MJ.

SilenceInside · 14/01/2026 18:41

I’ve never had any deficiencies and have always taken a multivitamin, so just continued with that. Whilst I was waiting for the week that it took for my first application to be approved and the pen delivered, I ate a reduced calorie healthy diet. The reason for that was being horrified by how much I weighed and being a bit traumatised by the pictures that I had to submit.

if you want to wait two weeks before starting then you may as well try to eat as well as you can and look after your health. It’s never a bad thing to try!

Itscoldouthere · 14/01/2026 23:22

I’d just start and take all your good health plans along with WLI, honestly don’t over think things, just start the jabs and make sure you eat well and take precautions so you don’t get constipated, drink lots of water, eat lots of protein and exercise.
If you get any SE (hopefully you won’t) take Pepto Bismal it’s really good.
good luck with your journey.

Sweetiedarling7 · 14/01/2026 23:31

I think this sounds pointless. Just start your mounjaro and any diet changes you want/ need at the same time.

Alltheyellowbirds · 15/01/2026 00:18

I did a week of only eating whole foods beforehand. I didn’t delay starting the jab to do it, it was between ordering and the pen arriving. I just thought I might as well start as I meant to continue and not waste that week just waiting.

Ruthietuthie · 15/01/2026 00:21

Just start. It's a waste of time to delay for two weeks.
The injections make it far, far easier to eat in a healthy way. I found the fatty foods I used to find it difficult to resist suddenly really unappealing (I'm looking at you, pain au chocolat). So why do it without them when you intend to begin them soon?

Mounjaroday · 15/01/2026 00:24

Just go for it OP. Enjoy the journey x

Stasis26 · 15/01/2026 07:00

I say do 24 hours of ‘clean eating’ and then just take the jab. It’s a good idea not to have anything fatty or processed still in your digestive system but waiting 2 weeks is just 2 weeks further behind from feeling those initial benefits from the loss of inflammation and food noise hope it goes well.

Tammy214 · 15/01/2026 13:16

I started a few months before with the gym, and food focusing on protein.
I had most of the vitamins abd probiotics already I just stocked up on more with acid reflux drugs just incase .
So when I started i didnt feel I was starting from scratch and was into some routine
