Has anyone never weighed themselves.....

Throughout their journey?

I knew I would be obsessed with numbers if I did. I was super obese and pretty much guessed my starting weight. I submitted genuine photos (just found them on my camera roll!!) and I assume they matched up.
I have obviously submitted updates on weight throughout the way - I have lost slowly but steadily according to clothes size and appearanceband again out in numbers that trend in that direction from research - on average 4lb a month. But I still have no idea how much I weigh!

I feel much more comfortable doing it this way. I am still overweight but look and feel so much better. For context I am about 5ft 2" and have given from a stretched size 20 to a 14 on bottom (thanks fatty bum) to a 12 on top.

Curious if anyone else has done the same. Btw, I know I'm never going to be the kind of person that takes it too far. I am happy with boobs and bum. Albeit saggier versions!

Sort of …. I’m getting my prescription privately via my pharmacy. The pharmacist takes weight, waist and BP every 4 weeks. I’ve asked that I’m only told how much I’ve lost as I can’t bear to know how much I weigh as it will affect my mental health. I’ve so far lost 8.5 kg in 4 months … slow but it’ll do for me as long as it continues

Lifejigsaw · 08/01/2026 08:17

i was the opposite and weighed but didn’t measure as I found that easier and more motivating,

how are you passing the verification calls though without weighing?

Perfectlyplump · 08/01/2026 11:43

Slightly different approach here as I weighed myself in kilos not stones as I could be emotional neutral about the numbers as they didn’t mean anything.

I’ve weighed myself as little as possible so that I don’t obsess about the loss. By leaving a long time, ie 2 weeks plus between getting on scales I could be certain that I would be lighter. I have a consultation and prescription every three months so that has been possible.

Equally I’ve not calorie counted but just been mindful of size of portions and made sure that I’m eating the correct amount and spread of fruit, fibre protein etc.

I can too easily tip over into obsession into watching the numbers and I’m trying to keep it all under control with these little tricks. It’s seven months now and I can see it’s working as it’s all going well and I can see that I’m slowly losing at a steady rate.

SpiralSister · 08/01/2026 14:08

Weighing has been really important for me, as I was deep in denial about my weight, and how unhealthy it was.

I now weigh daily and really look forward to it, bizarrely!

I am also curious as to how you’ve obtained your meds without weighing yourself? Have you made it up?

I've never had a verification call! Submitted photos, and a weight that must've correlated to my appearance. I think it was probably pretty close.

I am definitely a numbers/logical person and in the camp of if you don’t measure it you can’t manage it. But I don’t associate numbers with emotions as intensely as some do and it blows my mind how others can remain motivated when they don’t know how/if they are progressing each week.

I would have found it especially hard in the beginning when clothes sizes, even shape etc didn’t change that much until I’d lost a whopping 3-4 stone.

Shmoigel · 08/01/2026 16:19

I have all the way through. I hadnt weighed for years but as the weight went down I found it gave me gentle encouragement. Now I am at goal I weigh once a fortnight strictly to make sure i'm not obsessing and I am not gaining.

overthedale · 08/01/2026 16:21

I’d be very wary about going off clothes, to be honest.

Ineedanewsofa · 08/01/2026 16:25

I’m another who has weighed in kilos rather than stones and pounds as I have no emotional response to kilos - I also measure myself in centimetres rather than inches for the same reason.
As per pp above, I’ve found the downward trajectory motivates me to carry on and has created a pleasing graph in my app 😂

Lifejigsaw · 08/01/2026 16:37

Pharmacy’s have to do verifications now as part of prescribing. It’s a legal requirement. You have a video or in person consultation where you prove your id, your weight and height live. Has to happen every 6 months I think

RoundandSad · 08/01/2026 16:42

How do you submit any information at all?

You guessed your weight and typed in a guess?

So, you don't know how much you've lost? huh?

SilenceInside · 08/01/2026 16:53

When I’ve submitted photos to pharmacies one has always had to be of me standing on scales showing my current weight. It’s surprising to me that some pharmacies don’t do those checks or do anything similar like a live video call.

overthedale · 08/01/2026 20:45

I’ve been with MedExpress since starting and I’ve never had to show evidence of my weight. Besides, it would be so easy to manipulate this. I did have to send photographs (taken in ‘real’ time) the first time I ordered from them.

I think kilos is a good idea actually. I might change my scales to kilos as my weight loss has slowed down considerably and it’s frustrating!

SilenceInside · 08/01/2026 20:53

Actually I'm not surprised by that from MedExpress. They failed their GPhC inspection in April 2025, and were specifically criticised in the inspection report for not properly verifying height and weight - "It does not have processes to independently verify information supplied by people including people's weight, height and medical history. This means the pharmacy cannot be sure that the prescribing service it works with is getting all the information needed to make safe prescribing decisions."

overthedale · 08/01/2026 20:56

They do deliver extremely quickly, though! And I referred dh so have £40 off my next order 👍🏻

Yep. Typed in a guess.

Absolutely no idea how much I have lost. Although it's obvious I have lost weight. I do opt in for reporting to my GP and can see on my NHS record each letter they send.
Whilst it not might be for everyone, it's actually quite lovely - I just get on with life, eat less and eat better food. I'm getting to know how much food I actually need to feel good and to feel that I haven't overeaten. I don't count calories.

I get all of you who are data driven. But for me it would be rubbish. I would obsess too much. For me, this way feels more natural and every month I just submit the average number of pounds off. Or if it feels like a bad month I do a bit less.

Just to say - I have quite a bit more to go. Nowhere near healthy BMI. Definitely in overweight category still!

I’ve never seen it mandated that verifications need to be in person or video can you link to that, I don’t think most pharmacies do that, it’s just oushk and rhe like.

op. I weigh myself daily as I’m in this for life and I didn’t weigh myself for years which allowed me to hide from it, and you can gain significant weight before clothes can become tight if you wear stretchy stuff.

GPC regulations require a verification to either be a consultation or an independent verification (eg GP records) which themselves would have been an appointment or check.

“Our guidance is clear that when prescribing medicines used for weight management, the information provided by the person, including their weight, height and/or body mass index must be checked.”

Yes but that doesn’t mean video calls or face to face calls. Which is what I was questioning.

What other kind of two way consultation is there?

SilenceInside · 10/01/2026 14:15

Some providers, you have to do the photos in their website interface there and then rather than submit photos that you’ve already taken. Presumably to prevent people from editing them before submitting them.

I’m so confused by what you’re asking.

poster says it must be verified by video link or face to face
i ask for evidence of this, as checks not often done like this but other ways is go records.
you post a link saying it must be checked,
I respond with a check doesn’t mean face to face
you then respond and say how else is a two way consultation to happen.

its like we are speaking a different language.

where does the guidelines say it needs to be checked by a two way consultation/

I’m not trying to be argumentative, promise!

The link I posted included a statement from the GPC to say that weight and height must be verified in either a two way consultation ( the only examples I could think of were by a video or face to face appointment) or through independent checks (which I understood to mean when a GP or pharmacy confirm that the numbers you offer match their records. Some pharmacies have a service when you can go in to be measured and they give you an official statement.)

GPC are clear that photo submissions are not sufficient and must have a secondary verification. Sounds like there are many online pharmacies still ignoring this and therefore being investigated.

So when you said you understood the need for checks but asked why I was stating that a check must mean a call or appointment, that’s why I asked what alternative there was as those are the only kind of two way consultations I could think of. Other than GP record as mentioned.

Does that make more sense now?

Again we are talking at cross purposes.

i am fully aware of the verification need, it was well publicised at rhe time and is not new.

again, verification does not mean face to face consultation or video call, which you wrote it had to be, it can be done another way, ie gp records.

WeAllHaveWings · 10/01/2026 14:55

@Lifejigsaw there is a lot of pharmacy interpretation in the GPhC guidelines.

Pharmacies must be able to clearly evidence their prescribing decisions. They must have processes robust enough to check eligible customers are being prescribed to safely.

Oushk, who I assume is who you are referring too, has decided to do this through a 6 monthly video verification call. Other pharmacies have interpreted it other ways, for example Zava ask for photos with top lifted to show stomach (shudder - I cancelled my order when I saw that! 🫣).

Until other online pharmacies are inspected by the GPhC they won't know for sure if their processes are robust enough to pass inspection.
