Has anyone with PCOS + insulin resistance successfully swapped from MJ to Wegovy?

I'd love to hear if anyone who has PCOS with insulin resistance and has managed to successfully move from Mounjaro to Wegovy and has been able to both keep losing weight and is still experiencing good food noise suppression. I've got half a stone to get to target but need to cut costs for the ongoing maintenance. PCOS has no cure so I think I will need to stay on the medication for some time but hopefully at a much reduced dose.

Ive had prediabetes tests confirmed HBA1C of 45 in sept 23, I was probably diabetic as I gained another stone prior to starting mj just over a year later and hadn't gone to GP before hand, in fact my GP never informed me I was prediabetic in the first place. This would make me worse for blood sugar control than insulin resistance.
I needed the higher doses, took to 10mg, before they lasted no more than 5-7 weeks, then finally had some reduction in blood sugar symptoms like feeling dizzy, shaking hands of I didn't eat every 3-4hrs., constant carb cravings and hunger, exhaustion etc
Started bmi 32.8, 13st 1lbs, slow weight loss 1lb a week, got to 15mg bmi 25 suddenly doses too strong for me, dropped down quickly to 7.5mg within 2 months. Had significant hair loss daily for 11+ months even on higher calories for 2 weeks, maintenance 1500 deficit 1000, extreme lethargy, zero motivation, poorer mental health, anxiety on and off from day 1 mj throughout.

Switched to wegovy 5 weeks exactly around 9st 3.5lbs from 10 to 1.7mg, best decision ever, wish I'd done it months ago. All side effects resolved and lost my last 3lbs to get to goal bmi 22.7 in first month. Stronger suppression and satiety than 10mg and it's a lot more stable. Just started maintenance last week so started body toning with dumbbells but will drop down as can't eat as much on 1.7mg and will stay on wegovy. Best thing is it lasts all week, stable suppression. I recommend it to everyone.
2 weeks ago blood tests confirmed no longer prediabetic, high cholesterol and high BP, bloods all normal.

That's great. Glad to hear the move to Wegovy was successful. Unfortunately, PCOS never goes away so my insulin resistance is probably going to stay with me for the rest of my life - but hopefully it'll be better controlled than it was before the weight loss. I'm taking Berberine with MJ and still can feel that overwhelming urge to eat high carb foods particularly on the 2 days before the jab, and that's despite having lost 6 stone. Menopause doesn't help either.

I feel you OP. I have PCOS and insulin resistance. I was diagnosed in my 20s when I weighed under 8st. I've accepted that I no amount of weight Loss will reverse it. I'm on MJ and don't have any plans to switch as I'm loving not needing the insulin and I don't want to risk the stability. I will also need to remain on a maintenance dose.

My diagnosis of PCOS induced insulin resistance was kind of glossed over until a new GP started at my surgery. He really understood it and how it differs from pre-diabetes or type 2 snd took the time to explain exactly what happens when I eat and how my body just gets flooded with insulin but the cells don't respond leading to some awful side effects.

PCOS and insulin resistance are truly awful (and mostly misunderstood / under estimated) conditions.

I'm in the same boat with insulin resistance, I don't have pcos but I have had insulin resistance from a teenager, my mum would tell me I looked 3 months pregnant at 18 years old because of the classic apple shape, bloated tummy and inflammatory conditions like IBS.
I'm well aware that I may need to be on these long term as my recent bloods were carried out while on mj/wegovy which do reduce blood sugars so I can't know if my body has healed enough or if it is the meds doing it. I'm also genetically predisposed to diabetes, high bp, cholesterol and heart disease. Just wanted to share a success story of how good these wli are for those of us with life long health conditions.

That's really interesting. Do you remember what the gp said about why and how it differs from type 2 insulin resistance? What tips , if any, did he offer to improve PCOS insulin resistance?

His frustration was that insulin resistance can be a precursor to type 2 (not always) therefore its often seen as not as bad. His focus was on preventing the pancreas from becoming knackered through producing too much insulin with little effect on sugar levels so that it developed into T2.

There is the belief that as its hormonal just chucking the contraceptive pill at women will sort it all but as you know that doesn't fully work when you have PCOS. It didn't help my sugars at all. Metformin did but my god its awful stuff.

Whilst he did acknowledge that a healthy weight and lifestyle can help reduce symptoms it doesn't for everyone. Much like menopause may alleviate some side effects of PCOS it absolutely will not cure it. Its a life long condition sadly. T2 can be put into remission with weight loss but it rarely happens if PCOS is present.

He prescribed metformin but I couldn't tolerate it so was prescribed insulin to try and reduce the stress on my pancreas. I had tried following a low carb diet but it didn't help as much as we had hoped. Exercise was his top tip as it helps burn sugar. Just a gentle walk but it doesn't address the insulin and the cells refusal to uptake it sadly.

I have my blood pressure checked regularly as well has my cholesterol as these both can be raised.

If you dont mind me asking, what amount and form of insulin were you prescribed? I hadn't realised that was a treatment option for PCOS. Did you have to check your blood sugars?
