How does this drug differ from mounjaro?

SilenceInside · 11/12/2025 21:40

@Aliceisagooddog Mounjaro mimics two hormones, GLP1 and GIP, whereas Retartrutide mimics three, GLP1, GIP and Glucagon.

IsItSnowing · 13/12/2025 11:54

The % loss looks a bit higher than mounjaro. Quite a lot of people lost a lot of weight on the trial.
It will be good to have alternatives for those looking to get started once it's available and for people for whom mounjaro doesn't work or stops working.
I imagine it will be a similar cost or more though.

Sloelydoesit · 14/12/2025 17:31

How annoying to find out at the end you were on the placebo though!!!

HappyWineDay · 14/12/2025 23:55

It’s better than mounjaro so when it gets approved you can be sure it’ll be more expensive! All the drug companies will be trying to develop their own versions of these GLPs so we can only hope when they all start coming to market that it drives prices down.
From what I’ve read, these drugs are set to revolutionise medicine. The benefits are only just starting to be recognised, far beyond diabetes and weight loss.

It would be amazing if this mea t eh price of MJ comes down...

I searched Retatrutide here as I heard quite a lot about it on a few podcasts - mainly US and Canada - and they aren't weight loss podcasts, but a lot about peri and meno and women's fitness type discussions and it seems this is proving very popular as a microdosing drug to help peri and meno symptoms. It seems in the states they can just buy it or have their doctors prescribe it (and pay a fortune for it and their medical insurance cover), but for those who have the means it seems increasingly popular and being taken at these low levels to dose. I wonder if that'll become the trend over here too regarding benefits aside from appetite suppression?

This bit stood out to me, I knew that placebo effects could be powerful, but 10.7% of the people getting the saline solution (or whatever is in the placebo pens) felt sick afterwards, 13.4% of them got the runs, and 4% found the "side effects" of the placebo so unbearable that they left the trial! The human mind has strange powers.

"Consistent with the types of adverse events seen in clinical trials for other incretins, the most common adverse events among participants treated with retatrutide (9 mg and 12 mg, respectively) were nausea (38.1% and 43.2%) vs. 10.7% with placebo, diarrhea (34.7% and 33.1%) vs. 13.4% with placebo, constipation (21.8% and 25.0%) vs. 8.7% with placebo, vomiting (20.4% and 20.9%) vs. 0.0% with placebo, and decreased appetite (19.0% and 18.2%) vs. 9.4% with placebo. Dysesthesia occurred in 8.8% and 20.9% (9 mg and 12 mg, respectively) of patients treated with retatrutide, compared to 0.7% with placebo. These dysesthesia events were generally mild and rarely led to treatment discontinuation. Overall treatment discontinuation rates were similar across the retatrutide and placebo treatment arms. Discontinuation rates due to adverse events were 12.2% and 18.2% with retatrutide 9 mg and 12 mg, respectively, compared to 4.0% with placebo."
