Ozempic in perimenopause

Hi
I am thinking to buy ozempic privately for weight loss. I am in late 40s and need to lose about two and a half stone. I never have success with following any diet properly and seeing positive result. Are here any women who have used ozempic in late 40s if so can you please share your experiences both positive and negative. Thank you

Why ozempic?

There are loads of us on these boards having lots of different experiences.

Most people are on Mounjaro which is supposed to be more effective and is more expensive.

Wegovy is the same drug as Ozempic but licenced for weight loss and goes up to a higher dose than Ozempic.

I have been on both and am a slow responder who seems to get side affects below a certain weight. Some people get side effects from the beginning and either these get better or they give up. Some people get off quite lightly as far as side effects go. For me these are sulphur burps, diarrhoea, vomiting and abdominal pain. They are horrible. I take psyllium husk fibre supplements and probiotics with digestive enzymes to keep them at bay.

On the positive side these drugs are like liquid will power. I can’t finish a big meal and am less tempted by the treats. Lots of people seem to lose weight rapidly. I lost weight consistently for months which was something I was struggling with before.

You start on a low dose and increase it every four weeks until it is working well. Some people don’t find much effect until the dose has gone up to the third or fourth level. Other people don’t need to go up above the first one or two.

Shop around for a licensed pharmacy that isn’t too expensive. Price comparison charts here. Lots of info and experience on the threads on this board. Join a starting in the month you start thread for support from people at the same stage.

I'm younger than this, but in full on medical menopause. Mounjaro has been a lifesaver for me. Beforehand, nothing I did to shift the weight worked. It felt like my metabolism had just given up, and I felt hungry all the time. Now, I still enjoy food, but in much smaller quantities.

Side effect wise, increase the doses very slowly and very gradually, and you should be fine. The right dose is the one just before side effect starts, according to my doctor!

I've lost about 30% of my initial body weight in about 9 months. Now stable.

I'm that age but on mounjaro not ozempic. It has regulated my cycles and has been the only way I've been able to lose weight. The only downside has been that during the progesterone phase of hrt I tend to gain a pound or two, or at least not lose - and that does vary as I've been changing my hrt options - but previously to Mounjaro I was just continually gaining weight.

Why ozempic?

I'm guessing from the time of posting the OP might not be in the UK.

Anyway, I'm early 50s, in menopause and on mounjaro (zepbound in the US I think?) and it's been amazing. My joints don't ache, I'm no longer a permanent furnace and, oh yes, I've lost five stone. I feel ten years younger with so much more energy.

I should say I'm not on HRT, I know there are some things you have to think about with that like moving from oral versions onto patches.

When I first started Mounjaro I did think it did wonders for my perimenopause anxiety.

Zempy · 07/12/2025 08:33

I’m sixty and have been on Mounjaro for about a year. I have lost 38% of my body weight with minimal side effects.

I don’t take HRT. My arthritis is so improved.

Try it and see if it works for you?

Periperi2025 · 07/12/2025 08:37

I'm 44, going through an early menopause and taking mounjaro. I started HRT 2.5 years ago and have been on Mounjaro for 5 months. I've lost 3 stone. I've found them great, only need to microdose to loose well, and have had very few side effects.

Optimise your HRT first, then add the weightloss injections. Most endocrinologist preech only changing one hormone at a time, letting it settle then tackling the next one. It can be frustrating when you just want to feel better.

Thank you all for sharing your experiences. I will give it a go x
