Feeling light headed

I’m a few days in & am eating 3 (albeit small) meals a day, loads of water & hitting around 900 calories a day. Have loads of energy but keep getting waves of light headedness. Wondered if anyone else has experienced this & should I try to eat more?

900 calories isn't enough. The light headedness will be low blood sugar, make sure to eat little and often, plenty of protein helps.

Franklyannoyed · 04/12/2025 20:15

900 is very low. So yes I’d increase that to about 1200, you will be losing to much muscle and you won’t like what you see when you hit goal,

glucose tablets help, you can get them on Amazon or most supermarkets, but do increase cals and focus on getting your protein in, as it’s not just whay you will look like, but muscle is active and burns fat, so when you hit goal, if you’ve lost too much muscle your bmr will be low and you won’t be able to eat much before you gain.

morningtrain · 04/12/2025 20:31

Im trying to eat more but i am also pretty active (walking & weight training) so am burning calories each day. I am prioritising protein but maybe I need some shakes on top of whole foods. Thanks 🙏

Definitely too low, I aim for 12/1300 a day. I like a clear why protein drink from My Protein (not an ad) for 20mg of protein and 80 cals, also things like cottage cheese and ready cooked chicken and babybels to snack on.

AubreysMonkey · 05/12/2025 21:51

I find when I'm on MJ I get light headed, even when eating adequate (1300-1500) cals a day ... just one of those things I think

morningtrain · 05/12/2025 22:11

Yeah I don’t like cheese & always been apprehensive about protein shakes as think they’re a money spinner & full of crap, but I might need them. I want to do this properly & not lose muscle. My app says I need 1200 to maintain a 1lb loss a week.. I’d quite like a 2-3lb loss ideally but is that too fast?

2 is fine but three is pushing it, you will lose muscle and look like a melted candle when you hit goal.

morningtrain · 05/12/2025 22:22

@Franklyannoyed they made me laugh!!! I most definitely do not want to look like a melted candle 🫠

😀

it’s true though, you will look fine covered up , but in swimwear or underwear you won’t like it and it will be a big effort to fix it.

so many focus on the number on the scales alone, and I absolutely get the urge to get the weight off as fast as possible, but maintaining muscle is really important , not just for health, or being able to actually enjoy food when we hit goal, but our appearance, our tummies shrinking back, wobbly thighs, bingo wings etc.

i lost 6 and a half stone, worked out throughout, ate my protein, I’m bmi 20,and I had some wrinkly skin on my upper arms, a little under my back side and you could see a little on my tummy, but you could see muscle definition and I was toned, but it was there, that sort of loose wrinkly look, that would have been much worse had I lost a lot of muscle, and after 7 months in maintenance it’s nearly all gone and tightened up. You’d now not know I ever lost the weight and think I was always this size.

when I first hit goal you could tell I’d lost weight, when I was naked or in my underwear, you could see it, I’m shortly going on holiday and I actually bought swimsuits, thinking there is no way I can wear a bikini, but I could happily wear one now, as I didn’t have much to fix when I moved into maintenance, had I lost it faster and lost muscle, I’d have been in a much worse position, you look fine covered up in your clothes, it’s out of them that’s the issue. And you don’t want that flat bum look either. When I hit goal I looked great in clothes, you could see the definition in my arms, my backside was still curved, my stomach flat, my thighs lean, but naked I could see it snd so could my husband, although he was lovely if asked, was just like yeah maybe a bit, now he’s like wow, you look lovely,

it also helps your face, I’m really not sure how, but it does. I did develop a little bit of a turkey neck, but that’s also disappeared now. And my jaw line tightened up.

you want to have as little to fix as possible when you hit goal.

i lost about 1.5 to 2lbs a week on average. As we lose every week consistency it goes really quickly, but making sure it’s as much fat as possible and as little muscle, is so so important.

my honest advice is the number on the scale it’s important, but equally if not more important, is doing absolutely everything to protect your muscle at all cost, and lose in a healthy sustained manner, and you will look and feel great when you hit goal or not long after. It doesn’t matter if it takes a couple of months longer, better that than having to spend a couple of years trying to fix it when you hit goal and feeling self conscious about what you look like out of your clothes, unable to wear sleeveless tops, aware of your flat backside, or wondering why your tummy is still fat.

You’re weight training - you do know that at 900 calories, your body will eat muscle as well? More muscle = more calories burnt. You’re doing yourself no favours here as you’ll struggle to eat a decent amount when you come off it as your body won’t need as many calories as you’ve lost muscle.

Sorry are you saying I shouldn’t be weight training?

@Franklyannoyed that all makes sense. Thing is I’m only on 2.5mg & the suppression is intense & only just wearing off slightly on the next jab day- could I perhaps just jab every 10 days?

No, definitely keep weight training. But another one saying 900cals is way too low, there is no way you’re going to maintain muscle mass on that. Try 1200, I’d be surprised if you only lose 1lb a week on that if you’re also working out. But if you do then try to be patient, it’s worth a few more weeks wait to stay strong and healthy.

AirborneElephant · 06/12/2025 08:52

If you need to spread out the doses to eat properly then do. The really intense suppression will calm down, definitely don’t go up a dose until it does!

Are you really that suppressed on 2.5? Have you tried eating. Are you sure it’s not psychosomatic? Just start to build a few extra things you really like into your diet. An extra egg in the morning, a kvarg , some dried fruit, it’s very easy ti build in 300 extra cals, you can do it throughout the day and things you really like.

PearlTeapot · 06/12/2025 09:06

Yes, just try snacking on things like dried fruit or protein yogurts.

You could spread it out to 10 days if you choose but the suppression did fade for me, in about 6 weeks.

SexyFrenchDepression · 06/12/2025 16:20

To lose about 1.5lb a week my calories, including 3 work outs a week , average to be 1068 per day (calculated properly). So 900 isnt necessarily way off, depending on the make up of food and the OPs height/weight etc. My maintenance calories are only about 1700/1800 so fairly low. Obviously not ideal to feel light headed.

I had extreme suppression on 2.5mg, 1st week I couldnt really get above 500-800 a day, it got better as the weeks went on.
