Hello, I am now seriously considering starting WLI, am just into the obese category. 5’0 and 74 kg. I have a serious chronic illness that causes pain and fatigue which means I now cannot use my tried and tested method of increasing exercise to lose the excess weight.
My question is, I believe the starting dose for wegovy is 2.5mg?? Is it possible to administer less than that to start with as I tend to be sensitive to all medication and I usually half the dose of anything for first few weeks.
Is 2.5mg ‘one click’ of the pen or multiple clicks?
thank you

Well first off that's the mounjaro starting dose, not wegovy.

And yes you can do a smaller dose. A full dose is 60 clicks. You can do 30 clicks for a half dose or whatever you want really. There's lots of people on here who've done that to start.

I don't know about wegovy because the pen may work differently. And as mentioned the doses are different.

Whatever you decide, good luck. It's amazing stuff. I'm nearly 5 stone down after 8 months.

Mounjaro starting dose is 2.5mg. Wegovy starting dose is 0.25mg, I think.

I know you can do a smaller dose with the Mounjaro injection pen, but I am not sure the Wegovy pen works that way. For Mounjaro the full dose is 60 clicks so a half dose would be 30 clicks.

Weight is entirely controlled in the kitchen, not in the gym, so don’t worry about not exercising to drop weight.

Do worry about muscle loss though - because that is entirely controlled by working out in the gym.
Have you a council gym or a cheap gym near you that you can sign up for?
You don’t need to do cardio, you do need to lift weights and build muscle if you are going to give the WLI a go.

I don’t know about wegovy but as PP said you can easily halve the dose with monjaro.
The starting dose of 2.5 is very low though, it’s a loading dose not an active weight loss dose, so it might be ok for you.

SilenceInside · 01/12/2025 09:20

2.5mg is not a "loading" dose, because a loading dose is a large initial dose of medication to quickly raise the levels of that medication in your body, before then continuing with a stable maintenance dose. 2.5mg of Mounjaro and 0.25mg of Wegovy are treatment initiation doses, low initial doses that are not intended to produce weight loss for everyone, but to gradually increase the amount in your system so that you get accustomed to the medication.

TheRealGoose · 01/12/2025 13:50

Yes I think some confusion op.

mounjaro is 2.5 starting dose.

it is not a loading dose, a loading dose is when you do very high levels of meds to bring the amount in the system up then reduce, you basically load the system,

2.5 is a half dose to get the body used to taking the drug, the first full dose is 5mg. And you go up in half dose increments to ensure no ill effects.

I understand about “calories in” being the only real determinant of weight gain/ loss but with a BMR of only 1260 ish calories a day ( possibly even less as have autoimmune thyroid disease) its virtually no food and I am hungry.
Prior to being ill I walked around 20k steps a day, rode horses and did active volunteering roles, I could pretty much eat what I liked then plus found it suppressed my appetite.

You have absolutely no idea how you'll react to these meds before you start.

Please don't mess around with the prescribed doses at first. It's an expensive lesson.

Well don't worry- the wli will suppress your appetite so you won't be hungry.

This. I’m sensitive to literally everything but I wouldn’t decide to cut any tablets prescribed to me in half ‘just in case’ so when I started MJ I took the 2.5mg starter dose. I actually suffered zero side effects, stayed in that dose for the very year and lost over 7 stone. Please don’t start faffing about with it, aside from anything else you could be throwing your money away as a smaller dose might not even work for you.
