Wegovy December 2025 starters

May I join please. Apologies – first post will be long.
I collected my first Wegovy pen yesterday but 1 December seems an appropriate date to start. I’m in NZ so two things: Wegovy is the only WLI we can get here, and we weigh in kilos so I’ll probably us kg instead of pounds. (1kg=2.2lb).
Like many of us who have made the WLI decision, I have tried everything over the years and now, at 69 I feel if I don’t get my weight/health sorted I am going to have a terrible old age. I have osteoporosis and cannot do much exercise at this weight as I have an artificial hip, knee and ankle. I just want to improve my mobility and enjoyment of life with my very health-conscious and partner.
My most successful weight loss came after I had a gastric bypass in December 2007. That took me from 139 to about 90 where I hovered until making much more of an effort years later going to my lightest adult weight of 77kg. Since then I have yo-yoed up and down to now when I am 90.7kg (14s 4lb). I am 155cm (5ft 1in).
I was a teacher for 35 years and had to be on my feet most of the day which became particularly challenging when I had accidents causing three orthopaedic operations in 2006. Then I moved to a senior government role in education about eight years ago. Now that I work from home full-time my aches and pains have very much reduced but the sedentary lifestyle has seen me stack on the flab and my eating is out of control. The irony is that the bypass left me with a very small capacity. I throw up if I eat a ‘normal’ meal, though grazing almost all bloody day isn’t much of a problem!
To the point. On Friday I saw a new doctor at my local surgery and asked for Wegovy. He was supportive and very well informed about it. Thought I was a good candidate and had done done my research. He thought my (initial) goal of losing 15kg within a year was realistic.
But here’s the plot twist. I mentioned that I had read many reviews (MN!) where people didn’t feel their appetite was supressed and that this was my major problem anyway. “In that case, I’m going to (also) prescribe you Metformin and Bupropion (Zyban) which can be taken together and both have suppression qualities.” Gosh, a 3-way attack, but I am concerned I might have so little appetite that my intake will be too low. I took Metformin when I had T2 diabetes before WLS. I don’t remember it reducing appetite. And I’ve seen that Zyban is mainly used in helping people give up smoking/alcohol. So I guess he intends it to treat my addictive personality.
Unless I have a poor reaction – including having over-suppression of appetite -I’ll give it a go. I can always cut back to Wegovy alone then when I come off that, continue on the other two.
I will post my progress here and look forward to following other December starters.

Good luck OP; I hope the belt and braces approach from your doctor helps you get where you want to be!

I started on Wegovy this morning. I worked really hard to lose 17lbs this year but picked up a knee injury a couple of months ago which reduced my mobility, and combined with stressful work trips, I have just gained back 11lbs. Gutted. I play team sports and lift weights, but have a sedentary job and do a lot of solo parenting, so fitting in steps is tough. I really struggle with willpower when I’m tired and in pain. I am veggie but have a protein-focused clean ish diet. Healthy food isn’t my issue - eating too much at mealtimes and stress snacking is the root of it for me. I am desperately hoping to experience reduced food noise and increased satiety.

fingers crossed and good luck!

Thanks for your good wishes @StrongGirlsLift. I have had hypertension over the weekend so am delaying Zyban until my doc can advise. I think I will work on getting my BP under control this month and start Wegovy on 1 January. This will also get me past the many planned social events of December.
