No weightloss on MJ or Wegovy

I was on MJ for 2 months (2.5mg and 5mg) and it didn't work on me. There was no suppression, side effects, weightloss.

Then with the price increase, I switched to Wegovy, starting on 0.5mg and then 1mg. Still nothing!!

Is this normal??

I'm due to start 1.7mg next week, but it's all feeling a bit pointless at this stage.

I have 6.5 stone to lose. I am watching what I eat and do some exercise but surely, I should have lost something in the last 4 months?

You would only lose weight if you were in a consistent calorie deficit. It's probably worth tracking everything you eat for a week and comparing that to your TDEE and seeing what kind of deficit you are in, if any.

I would think it's worth getting to the highest dose for 4 weeks before deciding it definitely isn't working for you. Some people do need the higher doses, and a small percent it never really works for even on the highest dose.

I’ve heard it just doesn’t work for some people.
As pp said, were you eating healthy etc?

TheRealGoose · 28/11/2025 09:41

The issue here is three fold.

one, you’re not giving it enough time,
two, many folks struggle when switching from mounjaro to wegovy.
three, you need to diet.

I’ve been on mounjaro for about 18 months and read a lot of social media posts, I have come to the conclusion that weight gain is either physiological or psychological in the main ( can be both but often one primary driver )

if the desire to lose the weight is there, and the issue primarily physiological, blood sugar, insulin, metabolic issues, then the drugs work fantastically, it is the tool to help you succeed, as your body works as it should thus allowing you to diet.

if the desire to lose weight is there, but there is psychological barriers, binge eating, depression, comfort eating etc, then the drugs do not tend to work for many, as you can push through.

if you have not lost weight in 4 months the truth of it is you’re not eating in a deficit. If you were you’d lose weight. The drugs will not do it for you, not unless you get to such a high dose for yourself it becomes impossible to eat and you make yourself unwell, and this is clearly not advisable.

so the question I’d ask myself is what is stopping you eating in a deficit, even when spending so much money on the drugs, and wanting to give up quickly. It would indicate it is psychological?

Depends on the reasons for your overeating it may not work for you. It works on blocking signalling pathways in the body… yours might not have been very sensitive in the first place so you’re not feeling much.

Whether you keep trying at higher doses is up to you. I’d imagine it will work a bit eventually, but whether it’s worth the cost to you is personal.

HundredMilesAnHour · 28/11/2025 10:02

You’ve not given it enough time and by switching from MJ to Wegovy you effectively reset the clock and started again. Some people are fortunate enough to get the benefits almost immediately whereas for others they need to build up the dose to increasing to one high enough to get the benefit. It sounds like you’re in the second category.

SeriouslyWot · 29/11/2025 08:14

I have calculated my TDEE which is 1924 so I will aim to eat 1400 a day. I have been eating much better in the last months compared to how i used to eat, but obviously this wasn't good enough.

I will reset now, start weighing all food, take the 1.7mg and see where this takes me in the next couple of months.

My eating habits are definitely psychological. I eat when I'm celebrating and eat when I'm feeling down. I eat when I'm bored, or fed up. Something to work on.

Swapping just when you did makes it hard to say but my guess would be you are someone who needs a higher dose to feel the effects of the GLP1 meds. Mounjaro works at 2.5/5 for many but also many do need to work up a bit higher to get a good level of satiety and suppression that makes eating in a deficit easy. Alongside that making changes to diet, portion size and activity levels ensures you give it the best chance of working in a healthy sustainable way.

im a huge advocate for Mounjaro its been a game changer for me, but given where you are at I think you are probably best giving the next dose up of Wegovy a chance alongside really considering your calorie deficit and what you are eating.

finally - they say there are a small number of people don’t respond to GLP1s you could be in that unlucky minority- but you can’t know that when you barely tried MJ (only got to 1/3 of the possible dose that might have worked).

good luck, I really hope you start to feel the positive effects soon.

Splattsagain · 29/11/2025 08:53

It took me until 10mg of mounjaro to have an effect - I'd echo what other are saying, give it more time.

Prelim · 29/11/2025 08:54

It didn’t start working for me until I reached maximum dose. Even then my weight loss is only 1kg every 5wks. But, it is consistent and I am noticing a difference.

WhynotJanet · 29/11/2025 09:26

As others have said, track your calories, make sure you are in a deficit. Make healthier swaps, more protein, fibre and tons of water. If you aren’t exercising start, if you already are increase it. Do all that and perhaps then try a higher dose if all that isn’t working. I’m on Mounjaro, so no advice about Wegovy but the research tends to suggest that you loose more weight on Mounjaro compared to Wegovy.

I switched from 10mg mj to 1.7mg wegovy last week and it has given me very strong suppression but I feel better on wegovy, I have more energy and feel happier. I am at bmi 23 now though I was prediabetic when I started and on mj for 13.5 months amd had to get to 10mg for consistent suppression and to resolve my blood sugar symptoms. Those with prediabetes/pcos/underactive thyroid often have lower natural insulin so need higher doses of mj to work. I went all the way upto 15 then came back down to 10mg then over to wegovy.
I find a higher protein diet is more filling and helps with faster losses as well as drinking plenty of water.
