Hello I am on mounjaro on my second pen 5mg I find it hard to find what I have to avoid, every site I go to says the things I know I have to avoid to lose weight but on mounjaro its the food reacting to the med that creates the side effects I am on skinless chicken, mashed boiled eggs tomatoes lettuce cheese on a high protein wrap, my dietician is confused and forgets I am on a mounjaro weight lose diet, Has anyone in here tried lamb tenderloins or beef fillets or pork tenderloins that have less to nil fat, oh and since I started the 5 mg pen I get fuller quick on the same size meals as when on the 2.5mg dose

Huh? I largely eat whatever I like, focusing on protein, fibre and whole foods. Today I’ve had sour dough, a protein yoghurt, and then a wrap with steak, peppers, onions and cheese.

your diet sounds very, very restricted.

i have lost 15 kg in 5 weeks

Really, if you are getting the services of a dietician, they should be able to advise you on different things to eat.

But there is no specific diet that you need to follow when on Mounjaro, assuming you aren't eating lots of high fat high sugar foods. Just a normal healthy balanced diet, with perhaps a bit more emphasis on protein rather than carbs.

Lookingforthejoy · 25/11/2025 20:42

You’re allowed to eat fat. You should be eating ‘good fats’. I would be going out of my mind on that diet! There is nothing healthy or balanced about it.

Not a great day of food for me. I had half a bagel with cream cheese and smoked salmon and an apple for lunch. For dinner I had home made lamb burger and a MN salad, I only had a small bit of the bun.

Tomorrow I’m going to have soup for lunch and beef stew for dinner with mash and broccoli.

That isn’t a healthy weight loss. It’s too fast.

It’s really not different at all.

my dietician gets confused as being on a diet and being on a diet with mounjaro are totally different,

Then they are incompetent.

What are they claiming you can and can't eat on Mounjaro? I'm still eating just about anything I want - just in far smaller portions. I've just had a beef chow mein for example. Breakfast was porridge.

I am a year in and if I'd been on a hard diet the entire time, I'd have failed. I'm going to be doing this for another year or so yet, so I am choosing to learn how to manage portions control as my primary issue, not starving myself on bland food.

Jesus that’s far too fast, how many calories are you eating?

I just eat normal food. Today I had…

Scrambled egg on toast for breakfast, homemade soup for lunch and salmon with rice, veg and teriyaki sauce for dinner. I also had a chocolate mousse latte from Starbucks and a small malteaser reindeer.

There is literally no difference. The MJ is there to help you eat a normal balanced diet. I would find a new dietitian as this one sounds like an idiot.

i am 69 years old and have 2 knees about to be replaced and overweight and retired soldier that knows something had to be done and done now so i can stay with my family longer, i am here for ideas and suggestions not to be told oh that's too quick or eat what you want or what the hell is a small malteaser reindeer? I eat smaller potions and cut out ALL JUNK FOOD

OP posts:
FurForksSake · 25/11/2025 20:59

Good for you. You carry on with your dietician and massive calorie deficit. Weight loss too fast can have health implications such as gallstone and pancreatitis and hair loss. You’d probably find it more tolerable to eat in a normal sustainable way.

No one is saying eat what you want. No one is suggesting you eat a small malteaser reindeer, which is a small chocolate bar.

Cutting out junk food is great. Eating smaller portions is great. You don't need to avoid any specific food. Your dietician should be able to suggest lots of ideas for you, and they are being paid to do that. There is no real difference between a diet and a diet whilst being on Mounjaro. Eat a healthy balanced, calorie controlled meal. Ask your dietician to consider a higher protein lower carb diet when suggesting ideas for you. Lean meat should be absolutely fine.

Gettingbysomehow · 25/11/2025 21:02

Im 63 and I've been on it for a year and lost 5 stone. Im a new woman. Im 4 pounds to goal.
I ate what I wanted as long as it was calorie counted. I don't need to calorie count any more. I know what I can eat to keep the weight off. The last year has been my training. If I want a biscuit I'll just have one and I eat off a smaller plate. If I need to drop a couple of pounds Ill cut out the carbs for a few days.

jan2310 · 25/11/2025 21:06

Im nearly 60 and I’ve lost 11kg in 4 months. Your weight loss is incredibly fast, it doesn’t sound healthy. I’m eating a normal diet, just smaller portions, no snacks and drinking more water. I haven’t been bored at all.

Lookingforthejoy · 25/11/2025 21:07

You need to eat dairy products. You should range of different proteins based food eg chicken, beef, lamb, turkey, pork and egg, which ever ones you like. The BHF have the formula on their website so you can work out how much protein you need. A wide variety of veg and fruits and a small amount of ‘good fats’. I cut out ‘junk’ at first but now I allow myself a moderate amount and I’ve reduced carbs as by the time I have eatten the protein, veg and fruit I just don’t have the space for them.

Is the dietitan qualified as a dietitian and not just a nutritionalist? They should be explaining all of this to you.

Gosh I was showing you an example of what I eat in a day which is exactly what you asked for. The reindeer was a bloody snack.

Here's a suggestion. Don't be rude to people who are trying to help you.

Losing over 2 stone in 5 weeks is crazy fast and one particular risk for people who are older is that a fair bit is likely to be muscle loss, not just fat. That's not going to help you in the future when it comes to recovery from your knee op.

There’s a thread called ‘what I eat in a day on Mounjaro’ on here - it’s really good for seeing what people are eating. I’m veggie (well pescatarian) so can’t help with the meats you were asking about but I don’t see why you couldn’t have them at all… I can eat pretty much anything without side effects but I have tried to make my diet healthier - I don’t feel bored at all -

I’m in maintenance now so eating quite a lot but here’s a couple of days of my eating…

Today I had:

porridge with chia seeds, peanut butter powder, cocoa powder, fresh pear, frozen raspberries and crystallised ginger

Salad with tuna mayo and two hard boiled eggs

gnocchi soup and garlic bread

kiwi and a square of dark chocolate

yesterday:

Greek yogurt with an apple sprinkled with cinnamon and a non UPF muesli

sourdough toast with butter and marmite and a babybel

veggie chilli with a little rice, sprinkle of cheddar and a dollop of Greek yogurt

Protein choc ice bar

I love the Fast800 cookbooks for inspiration for healthy meals.

33 lbs in 15 weeks is fine weight loss, it’s just over 2lbs a week. But dieting on mounjaro is not different to dieting without op.

i eat all meats, steak, pork, beef, chicken, I just don’t eat the fat. I fry steak, everything else done in the oven, I eat rib eye, I eat eggs, seafood, fish, fruit, veg, salad. I don’t tend to eat root veg, just as I’m not a fan, but broccoli, cauliflower, peas, sweetcorn, I like, I eat a lot of pineapple, mango, and grapes,

I also like a protein shake, I like Huel black ready fo drink and clear protein water. Consuming enough protein is critical to ensure you don’t lose muscle, particularly as we age. Try to build some strength training in to your day, I understand the knee issue makes that difficult, but strengthening muscle would be helpful.

He said 15kg/33lb in 5 weeks, not 15!

66babe · 25/11/2025 21:43

Why come on here and be rude to people trying to answer the very question you asking ?
Healthy eating is healthy eating .. try a variety of foods you enjoy in smaller portions and continue to avoid the crap .
Consider increasing your calories if your weekly weight loss is more than 3 lbs a week - or you risk gallstones , hair loss, saggy skin and other complications

monjmaintainer · 26/11/2025 06:47

You should be able to eat a normal healthy diet, with a focus on protein like the meats you asked about being a great option, to ensure you don’t lose too much muscle mass and plenty fibre to keep your guts moving. There are no banned foods. Any nutritionist still unaware of GLPs and able to advise on this needs a new line of work, or you need a new dietician.

15kg loss in 5 weeks is a dangerously fast rate of loss and suggests significant undereating. If you can’t eat enough calories to keep your loss at 0.5-1kg per week then you should speak to your provider about lowering your dose or coming off Mounjaro as that isn’t healthy.
