Best recommended electrolytes

So I’m starting on the jabs later this week & hear it’s good to take electrolytes.. I wondered 1) how crucial this was and 2) best ones to get please. Any other starting tips would be great too. Feeling nervous!

I use Phizz , the flavours are nice & they have other vitamins included. I tend to but the from H&B as they are on offer (3for2)

I have been taking Mounjaro for about 16 months now and have never needed or wanted to take electrolytes. I would only think it would be necessary if you have been suffering from D&V that's gone on a while and you are at risk of being dehydrated. Which thankfully has not been the case for me whilst taking Mounjaro.

Electrolytes may be useful if sweating/exercising, or dehydrated due to side effects such as minor diarrhoea/vomiting. More significant side effects you would be better speaking to pharmacist about taking Dioralyte which is more effective.

There seems to be a thing about taking electrolytes with Mounjaro to “cure” headaches, feeling light headed or off, low energy - these are also symptoms of dehydration that drinking enough water should deal with. There is the placebo effect from electrolytes and also flavoured electrolytes are more appealing than plain water so they drink more, resolving the dehydration issue.

You don’t need electrolytes as a routine no, only if your diet is very poor, you’re dehydrated etc, and taking them regularly could be very dangerous as they contain lots of things you don’t want to take too much of, like potassium and Sodium.

ive no idea how it became a social media myth.

Right, I’m not usually a supplements type so pleased to hear this. What about all the stuff about upping protein?! Always steered clear of protein shakes etc for same reasons.. assume you just eat as usual but smaller portions on mj?

Yes to smaller portions, but a lot of people find that carbs are not appealing at all, particularly processed carbs. So, I find I tend to eat a larger percentage of protein, very few carbs and lots of non-carby veg. Prior to Mounjaro, I would have been very carb focussed and find it hard to be satisfied without a substantial carb element to a meal.

I don't use protein shakes, they give me the ick, and many are full of all sorts of processed stuff. I do eat higher protein yoghurt, usually Fage greek yoghurt rather than the specifically high protein marketed ones.

Protein is really important, this one is correct. You need to aim for 1g of protein for every 1kg of body weight, and do strength training, you do this to maximise fat loss and minimise muscle loss.

if don’t I can promise you you will be deeply disappointed when you look at your naked body when you reach goal, you will retain fat in areas you dint wish, be saggy, and have a flat arse.

Protein shakes can be handy to top up but should be aiming for most of it from a protein focussed diet and try to avoid using them regularly as a whole food meal replacement.

Aim for around 0.8-1g of protein per kg of body weight if possible. Try to get a reasonable amount of protein in at every meal to reach the targets.

Where your fat goes from and whether you have loose skin is nothing to do with how much protein you eat or your muscle mass. It's down to genetics, age and skin damage from the sun/smoking if applicable. Exercise, strength or cardio, cannot target areas for fat loss.

Having a flat bottom might well be affected by how much strength training you do, although it's hard to actually build muscle whilst also in a calorie deficit.

Sorry also op, I do use protein shakes, I like protein water, and I like a Huel black ready to drink. And have one or the other most days, if not both. I also have eggs, and lean proteins, ie meat, seafood, fish.

I’ve been in maintenance for the last 7 months, and am now up to 1.5 g of protein per kg of body weight my weight has sustained and is very stable, but I’ve dropped another two percentage points in body fat and replaced it with muscle.

my body looked lean and toned when I hit goal, as I did focus on protein and exercise throughout the year long journey, but when I hit goal I then moved to body recomp. I look leaner now and people are surprised when I say I’ve not lost weight since I hit goal, I genuinely haven’t, but you can see a lot more definition now. I’m bmi 20, and am not muscular, but you can see the definition on my body, arms, thighs stomach etc,

collagen is also important, and I had it throughout, when you hit goal, and I lost 6 and a half stone, you do look like you’ve lost weight, I could see my upper arms were wrinkly, under my backside, and my stomach if I twisted. It’s all gone and tightened up now, with a v small amount on my upper arms, I’m in my 50s. You would not look at me naked now and assume anything other than I’d always been this weight.

lastly water is critical to help you lose weight, aim for 3 litres a day, every day.

Muscle mass has a huge amount to do with loose skin, for example bingo wings are usually due to a lack of triceps. But yes genetics can also play a part and how much muscle you had before. And yes in a calorie deficit it is about maintaining muscle and not building it. When you hit goal and up your cals you can build it. The key to successful weight loss is losing fat, not muscle and not eating enough protein and not strength training will see you losing a lot of muscle, which makes the loose skin worse.

Just as an alternative thought on collagen, there's no good evidence that taking collagen supplements is effective at combating loose skin. There's no evidence that eating collagen, in the form of supplements, enables your body to produce more collagen. The collagen you eat is broken down into its constituent elements as with any other protein source that you eat. Whether or not your body then uses that to build new collagen is a totally separate thing. So it won't do any harm, and is essentially some extra protein, so if you aren't vegetarian or vegan then it's something you could try. But lots of collagen supplements are very expensive, so it's worth understanding what they may or may not be doing for you.

I've lost 10st 7lbs so far, and I was obese for a very long time, morbidly obese for a fair amount of time recently. I was not expecting my skin to recover straight away, if at all, from that amount of long term over stretching.

250ml water, stir in 2 tbsp lemon juice and a pinch of Celtic sea salt. This is an electrolyte drink recipe if you don’t want to buy electrolytes. I got it from Willpowders who do sell Electrolytes but also say you don’t have to buy them you can make your own.

Not crucial at all! In fact, I really wouldn’t take them unless you’re doing heavy exercise and sweating loads or have a very upset stomach and get dehydrated.

Yes sorry I think when you get into 10.7 stone or more weight loss, then obvs no amount of triceps is going to sort bingo wings, I was meaning more moderate level, I’ve lost 6.7 stones and have been able to remove bingo wings, but it’s taken a lot of exercise, lifting, moisturising etc, throughout.

I’m 58, down 8 1/2 stone on MJ, 11 1/2 from my absolute heaviest and have been in maintenance at around 8 stone for 6 months now. I no longer really have bingo wings but the skin on my arms is still there just waaay better than it was.

I have no idea if it helps but I do take loads of collagen, lift regularly, moisturise etc but reckon overall I’ve just been fairly lucky in the genetic lottery.

We won’t mention the state of my belly and legs…
