Evening all,

I seem to have hit 40 and gained some weight and I’m really struggling to lose it.

my BMI is not high enough to get weight loss injections but is there anything else that could help?

I need to lost about 3 stone and I’m really struggling and feeling really bad about myself.

To be fair the height comments is fair as I measured at 162cm in 2008 and last Wednesday I measured 159cm by nurse at my healthy heart check, we do lose a cm per decade on average but some of us shrink more!
Also weight changes regularly especially if you eat more carbs or its that time of the month. This morning I weighed at 59.5kg last week I was 58.7kg, I've had some heavy carb meals last 5 days!
If you really want to start WLI then recheck height and weigh on a heavier time of month and you could probably get to bmi 30 easily.

I agree, i lost a few cm and was surprised when my husband measured me, always best to check, and if you eat a carb heavy meal and drink a litre of water, you can be half a stone heavier at the end of the day than the morning.

op, I’ve lost 38 kg on them, my bmi is now 20, like 80 percent of people I’ve had no side effects, I’m on mounjaro, I feel great, have been maintaining for about 7 months now, and I’m personally staying on 5mg maintence dose. Some come off, some stay on, the dose is individual

if you decide to start just find the months thread, so for you now would be nov starters, and join in with the group.

Have a look at monj.co.uk for pricing,

Just be mindful you may need to be on the medication long term and you may need to be on a high dose which can be expensive.
I say that as someone who has lost almost 5 stones on jabs. Its been ridiculously easy though, however, i have lost so much hair as a side effect of mounjaro. (It is a listed side effect now so not just because of weightloss. I have lost weight before and not had hairloss).
On the other hand, its helped me reverse prediabetes and my cholesterol levels have reduced so its a trade. I am aiming to lose a bit more to give me a buffer then go down to as low a dose as possivble or, ideally, come off jabs entirely

My BMI is 29.2 I have been through the consultation to get injections and they say I don’t meet the criteria.

im 5.9 and 14st2lb

I assume you don’t have any medical conditions?

eg PCOS, high cholesterol (I actually only found out when considering taking the jabs), high blood pressure, pre diabetic.

Assuming you don’t, if you eat a carb heavy meal, and drink lots of water you might find out that you qualify. My bmi was just under 27 (over 27 with carb heavy meal and water) - and I’ve been taking since July. I have stuck to the 2.5mg dose - it’s reduced my cholesterol back to normal, reduced joint pain, improved ibs. I plan to reduce the dose further maybe to half the starter dose (microdose) and stay on longer term.

It is the weight loss that causes it though, you can google, lots of studies, it isn’t the drug. And it is also temporary shedding and it comes back when weight stabilises. No one goes bald on it.

The manufacturer says its a side effect, so it is the drug. Not sure why people are so quick to dispute that when the makers themselves say it it is?
I have no idea if people go bald and never suggested they did. I'll let you know if it happens to me.... at this point i am not far off!!

IndieRocknRoll · 15/11/2025 23:57

I echo a previous poster. Go for the Mounjaro.
Drink some water, wear tight fitting light coloured clothes and weigh yourself at the end of the day after a big meal. You’ll then tip into the 30 bmi.
Thats what I did and it worked wonders for me after trying unsuccessfully for around 12 months to lose weight. I lost and regained the same 2-3lbs.
I’m now a healthy bmi and so glad I did it.

It’s genuinely a lot more nuanced than that, it is not the drug that directly causes it is weight loss, honestly, you can google it.

the nuance is the manufacturer state “ hair loss observed in patients treated for weight management” . And it is phrased like that because it is the weight loss, not the drug directly that causes it, the other side effects are listed as the drug causes it ie dizziness or nausea.

it is called telegen effluvium, it is temporary and it occurs with significant or rapid weight loss.
