Gained 10lbs in 5 weeks on weight after switching from mounjaro

Hi all
I'm more than devastated I actually feel like crying. I was on mounjaro for over a year and lost 2 stones, I am a slow loser but I'm ok with that as I have a under active thyroid so nothing else worked. I was 7lbs away from target and had to switch to wegovy due to the price increase . I switched from 12.5 mounjaro to 0.5 wegovy which did nothing for me and I was starving, anyway on Sunday I took my 2nd dose of 1mg and magically I finally felt good suppression this week. I have been calorie counting ans eating well and no snacking and today I checked my weight and I've gained another 2lbs. This means since starting wegovy I have gained 10lbs. It took me so long to lose this . In devasted and don't know what to do. I wanted to give wegivy a fair chance and I was happy that I finally felt suppression and thought it's finally working . If I had maintained it gained a couple of pounds I'd be ok but 10lbs I don't get it. Yes I'm constipated d feel bloated and have inflammation bavj which was give on mounjaro. But it can't be 10lbs worth and can't still be gaining.
has this happened to anyone else? What should I do? If I go back to mounjaro in guessing it won't wok until I'm Back at 12.5 which could be months again to get there. I could actually cry today.

If you swap back to Mounjaro you might be able to start at a higher dose given that you're switching rather than starting fresh.

What is your week by week weight losses/gains over the period of time that you've swapped from Mounjaro to Wegovy? You've been on Wegovy for 6 weeks or so, is that right? Just wondering at what point the weight has gone on. Presumably the lack of effect of Wegovy has meant that you've been eating above your maintenance level of calories?

I think as you now feel suppression I’d continue with wegovy and move up doses. It was always going to be this way. However in saying that, the max dose of wegovy is the equivalent of 7.5mg of mounjaro. But you might find you didn’t really need 12.5. So I’d go all the way up.

hi every week it's gone by 2lbs . I might have eaten slightly over in the first 3 weeks but definitely not enough to gain that much I feel anyway. But this week I have tracked and calorie counted and definitely have not eaten over as have suppression but still gained 2lbs. I was in my period this week so I thought last weeks gain contributed to that but now it's finished and I've still gained another 2lbs

I know the inflammation is back as I can see it and feeling especially in my hands and fingers

I would say that the weight may well be inflammation and water retention, as it seems unlikely you have over eaten to the extent of the calories needed to put on 10 pounds of fat.

So, I think I would also continue on with Wegovy for now and move up the doses. It may well stabilise and then start to drop again.

This happened to my daughters and their friends.. they also found Wegovy made them really ill.. more bloated.. far too much wind... very uncomfortable... they have all gone back to mounjaro.. l was going to swap but im not.. im sticking to mounjaro.. ive lost 5 stone in one year ( slowly but surely) .Reversed my diabetes and now l can have my new hip.

stillme37 · 14/11/2025 12:08

If I do stick to it though will it actually help the inflammation ? I just don't know what to do?
@ItsFridayIminLoveJSI've heard this a lot recently. Were they able to go on the dose of mounjaro they were on previously? And did it work just as well for them second time around ?

I would go back to Mounjaro, it’s not cost effective if it doesn’t work. I was on Wegovy before Mounjaro and it worked but the side effects were much worse than MJ and definitely not as effective.

stillme37 · 14/11/2025 12:13

@PurpleFlower1983yes that's what I was thinking but I did want to give it a fair chance but 10lbs gain is way too much

I don't think Wegovy will directly help the inflammation, but at some point the inflammation will reach a stable point and then you will see weight loss again, if that makes sense. Wegovy is less effective than Mounjaro, in terms of weight loss, and Mounjaro acts on two hormone receptors where Wegovy acts on just one. So there will be a difference in how you respond to each medication.

Only you can really decide if you can afford Mounjaro longer term, or if persisting with Wegovy will be the better option financially. It's a tricky balancing act between long term cost and long term effectiveness.

stillme37 · 14/11/2025 12:15

I was so close to reaching my goal and now it's so far again, and even in mounjaro my weight loss was tiny amounts as I was close it goal so now I don't know how long it will take for me to lose this 10lbs again 😭

It's not 10lbs of fat is it? You know that logically - you've not overeaten that much and you're constipated, plus you can see that you're inflamed. Trust your body. Eat within a deficit and drink lots of water and it will go.
