What do you eat?

I'm about to start my injection journey.
What foods do you eat to help ensure you keep side effects to a minimum? Am most worried about sickness and nausea as I do not cope well with these!

Quite a few of us haven’t had side effects. You might be lucky. Eating fats, sugars and processed food doesn’t seem to help. Not alcohol. Look through some of the first threads for each month of starters and you’ll get an idea.

I mix and match my food from all the below daily.

Protein food - Chicken breast, salmon, low fat greek yogurt, cottage, eggs, cheese, turkey mince, lean beef mince, tuna, sardines, prawns, edamame, whey/ collagen protein powder/shakes

Fibre - Oat, chia seeds, flaxseed, lentil soup, berries

Carbs (80-100g a day) - veggies, brown rice , quinoa, sweet potatoes - all small portion apart from veggies

I found peppermint tea and some bland crackers helped when I felt sick. It only was on the first dose then when I moved up to 5mg.

Avoid fatty, fried food. I can't stomach ultra processed food like sliced bread for example.
You may want to be careful with spicy food (doesn't have to be but you could be a bit sensitive), sweetener, fizzy drinks and alcohol.

I priotise protein over carbs.

My worst side effect is constipation.

And drink plenty of water, 2-3l ideally.

StrongLikeMamma · 11/11/2025 20:50

Fish, veg, plain yogurt, bananas, organic protein shake, eggs, berries, tea, milk - I have a small bit of toast at the end of the week when they start wearing off - with egg for eg.

Am mainly eating WAY less in general.

morbidcuriosity · 11/11/2025 21:31

My main stuff in my diet is Chicken breast, Eggs, Tuna, Cucumber, cottage Cheese Greek yoghurt and Brocolli.. obviously I eat much more, but they are my staples.

I would say just stay away from deep fried fatty greasy foods to begin with and see how you feel.

Thank you all. I shall start doing some menu planning

80 percent of people have no side effects op.

i had none, I just felt great from day 1. Like millions of others.

i eat clean, low carb, low fat, with fruit, pineapple, mango, grapes, veg, salad.

for low carb it’s basically eggs, proteins like fish, seafood, meat, grilled or done in the oven, i like a Huel black ready to drink shake, i like the chocolate one.

make sure you eat minimum of 1g of protein for each kg of body weight, you need to lose fat, not muscle, and try to incorporate strength training, or you won’t like what you see in the mirror when you hit target.

drink lots of water, aim for 3 litres a day. Avoid fizzy drinks. And I’d advise a psyllium husk every morning, with water, to keep you regular. I take one each morning, with a litre of water before I do anything else, and never suffered constipation.

howver if you’re not hydrated, don’t eat clean, you could run into some issues, nauseas, constipation, the runs etc,

2GreatFatSquirrels · 11/11/2025 22:43

I haven’t had any side effects no matter what I eat

tobee · 11/11/2025 23:30

I'm only on day one. But my friend, who has been on MJ since April, says she eats whatever she wants pretty much, but smaller amounts. Has had no side affects. Lost over 3 stone.

MrsM2025 · 12/11/2025 04:17

I also eat ‘clean’ - cut out carbs but still get constipation from time to time
Lots of peppermint tea to curb the nausea
Try to drink as much water as possible
I’ve cut out as much processed food / sugar / fat as possible and reduced alcohol

Frenchfrychic · 12/11/2025 07:45

Op, I’d also add that eating clean isn’t hard, I personally have no urge at all for fatty or carby foods, it doesn’t cross my mind, I crave veg, fruit, salads, protein etc. so it’s not a hardship if that makes sense.

i point it out as if you’re not on the drugs it may feel miserable, but when on the drugs it feels totally natural.

Missymarple · 12/11/2025 07:55

I do get the side effects - upset stomach and nausea, lucky me - but have managed to stay on the lower doses and lose almost all of the weight. The best tip I was ever given for the stomach issues was to spread my eating out across the day. So I eat a smaller amount at normal breakfast, lunch and dinner times and then I add in two extra eating points in between those times. Not a full meal or anything, some nuts and fruit usually, but enough to keep me going. It's not fun, being nauseous for a few days each week, but I'll take it for the health benefits of the weight loss.

PearlTeapot · 12/11/2025 08:56

I've had no side effects except constipation. I think I only felt sick once when I ate fish and chips!

Otherwise I seem to be able to eat everything as before. Just less of it. However I don't eat pasta or potatoes much anymore as they seem to make me uncomfortably full and I don't like the feeling.

For lunches, I live on cottage cheese (Longley Farm is the only one I'll eat!), protein bagels/thins, ready cooked flavoured chicken, houmous etc. Dinners as before just less of them. Breakfast is greek yogurt and berries and honey, or All Bran with raspberries.

UnimaginableWindBird · 12/11/2025 10:15

I've not had any significant side-effects - occasional constipation and stomach discomfort are more than balanced out by the reduction in joint pain, headaches and acid reflux.

I generally eat oatbran, Huel or the occasional bacon sandwich for breakfast fruit, especially kiwi fruit and berries, with chia seeds, yogurt, cottage cheese and babybel light for snacks, some sort of bean-based soup, stew or salad for lunch (with rice, bread etc if I'm feeling extra hungry) and then a smaller portion of whatever everyone else is having for dinner. This week's meals are: lasagne and salad; white fish and potatoes in arrabiata sauce; turkey soup noodles; creamy kale and broccoli cannelini beans; sea bass baked with olives and white wine with greens and new potatoes; pizza, salad and a protein yogurt; burnt aubergine and lentil chilli; chicken and chorizo stew with olives and preserved lemon.
