Plateau on mounjaro

NicPapr25 · 11/11/2025 09:50

SW 117kg
CW 91kg
Has anyone had experience of reaching a plateau on MJ? I have remained the same weight now for 1 month, I am doing the same amount of exercise and same food intake. Currently on 5mgs, not experiencing any real food noise so reluctant to up dose, previously I had been losing 1kg per week, so bit disheartened that nothing in last few weeks.

Yes, me and probably lots of other people. Sometimes it's just how it is, and the scales will move eventually. You could try upping exercise and reducing calories a bit, or try something like OMAD or IF for a few days if you haven't already, just to mix things up a bit.

You could also think about how your sleep and stress levels are, are you drinking enough water etc, what are your macros like wrt protein/carbs etc.

Milbie · 11/11/2025 10:00

Yep I plateaued for 12 weeks until it started going down again. I didn't increase my dose because the side effects are too much for me. I just had to break through my homeostasis at that weight. Eventually I did and went down another stone with no apparent change in diet or exercise.

RenegadeKeeblerElf · 11/11/2025 10:04

Have you recalculated your calories since losing weight?

Mysticmaiden · 11/11/2025 10:11

I've only maintained for 6 weeks in 13 months of taking mj. Those 6 separate weeks, were due to too many carb or maintenance calories, or poor sleep and severe stress and not tracking food intake. Best advice is go high protein low carb, track on myfitnesspal app and use tdeecalculator.net to recheck your calories as when we lose, we need less calories for energy so if you've eaten the same then you're probably on maintenance cals. I'm bmi 22.9 9st 3lbs and lost 5lbs last month so I'm doing something right!

NicPapr25 · 11/11/2025 10:15

Thanks all, makes me feel happier knowing not just me and that hopefully will kick start again. I have not been checking calories as have been going carb free, which was previously working well, so may look into this if nothing improves in a couple of weeks. X

I was stuck for three months. It sucked but it’s moving again.

Calyx72 · 11/11/2025 11:57

Me. Plateaued at 166lbs (up or down 1lb) for the past almost month. Tracking everything including olive oil when cooking.
B: Clear whey protein water with 30g soaked chia seeds (built up from initial 5g chia seeds) and Elavate collagen
L: chicken, salmon, or tuna with salad (no carbs)
or Soup and wholemeal sandwich (low carb)
D: Protein and veggies, 1/2 portion or other small amount of complex carbs (quarter of the plate)
S: green apple with teaspoon of peanut or almond butter

1200 calories max per day

I am not exercising just now though except 30 squats in the morning and maybe 3-4k steps per day. Drinking water through the day.

I am confident it will eventually go down as I do feel slimmer

WeAllHaveWings · 11/11/2025 12:01

When I went from 117kg to 91kg my TDEE reduced from 2,191 calories to 1,870 calories. That is over 300 calories less a day I needed.

It is worth revisiting your TDEE and calorie deficit regularly (end of each pen or perhaps every time you lose 5kg), especially when losing so much weight to keep the weight loss momentum going.

lunar1 · 11/11/2025 12:01

You probably need to up your dose, that’s still pretty low.

adding in exercise is a really hard balance so do it with care, I’m on maintenance now after losing 100lbs, reduced to 7.5 mg now, and I’ll go to 5 in two weeks. But it’s really hard staying steady with an appetite from exercise.

letshavetea · 11/11/2025 12:08

Yes, me. I plateaud since August. I stayed on 7.5mg due to a couple of holidays and my birthday. I spent the last month titrating up to 10mg of MJ and it’s now slowly starting to move again. I have only 71b to go and bmi is currently 24.2.
Keep going - you’ll get there. Personally I’m okay with it as at least I’m not gaining.

Frenchfrychic · 11/11/2025 12:27

If you’re not losing weight you’re eating to maintenance, so you have to reduce by 500 cals a day to lose a lb a week. It worked before as you were heavier so could eat more, your tdee would have been higher.

so you can either cut your cals on this dose or a higher one, but the only way to do it is cut cals, the drug doesn’t make you lose weight as such.

usedtobeaylis · 11/11/2025 12:35

Rather than immediately looking at cutting calories sometimes you need to increase your calories more to a maintenance level or just above maintenance for a week or so before reducing again. If you're low carb sometimes you need to increase them.

Isobel201 · 11/11/2025 12:41

I've been maintaining for the last two months, then weighed myself yesterday and finally the scales dropped into the lower weight category. You cannot maintain a carb free diet forever, you do need to eat some carbs. I reduce the refined carbs and eat more complex carbs.

What are you eating for carb free?
I still have some carbs and I lose regularly. I would be concerned to completely cutting carbs as the brain uses carbs for energy, so you risk affecting mental health and focus and concentration etc. Vegetables are a good source of carbs.

Lds1 · 11/11/2025 12:55

I've put a bit on since Thursday so hopefully can get rid before this Thursday. I've felt really down this last few days so I've probably eaten more bread than usual, that stops tonight.

ChocolateBoxCottage · 11/11/2025 13:35

Yes me, but I have lost much than a pound a week. I have been stuck for 6 weeks now. Decided to come off MJ for a week and really monitor my calories and hunger levels. So back on this week with new lower calorie intake than my TDEE. Feeling a bit disappointed really. I am still on 5mg. If this week gives no weight loss I will go up a dose. I'm 6 months in and lost two stone so far. I think I need to beclose to 1000 calories a day to loose weight by the looks of it. I started at 15, 7 and now at 13,3 and 5,4".

littleburn · 11/11/2025 14:35

It’s common to hit plateaus even on WLI. If you google set point theory that helps explain it. Basically our bodies are ok with losing weight within a certain range and then slam the breaks on. Keep persevering and eventually your current weight becomes the new set point and you start losing again.

MeridaBrave · 13/11/2025 23:03

I’d measure / weigh everything for a couple of weeks to see if you are in a deficit.

Body / brain can use ketones but yes lack of vegetables would be my concern with carb free. I don’t eat any grains or starchy carbs but still get to around 100g a day from fruit (i only eat apples and berries), veg and the carbs in dairy.

PurpleCoo · 14/11/2025 05:57

I have been in a plateau for about 6 weeks now at BMI 26ish. It's very frustrating, I weigh my food, make good choices and haven't changed or increased my diet. BUT I am the lightest I have been for probably decades (by about 4-5kg), and I only have another 4-5kg to go to get to a BMI of 24.5 (I exercise a lot and I am quite muscular, so probably don't want to go lower than this). Certain parts of me look to be the correct weight, but there is still a too much fat on my upper arms, lower belly and inner thighs.

90% of the time, I am accepting of this as part of the process, that this time of plateau is a time for my body to reset at this weight and it be the new normal. Although I don't have lots of excess skin, it hasn't quite kept up with the weight loss, so this is also a time for my skin to catch up. I am also hoping that with all the weights, I am experiencing body recomp. My arms and thighs (except for top of inner thighs) are looking much more lean and toned.

10% of the time I get caught up in thoughts of failure and thinking I will never get to a healthy weight, and frustrated that the scales aren't moving, and that I have paid a lot of money for this last pen and not lost a single pound, so it's money down the drain because it isn't doing anything. Between now and Christmas, I have very high stress levels, to the point I am waking up an hour or so earlier than I should be, so sleep is impacted. I have more stuff to do than I have time for and feel constantly pressured. This is likely impacting on weight loss, but things will settle by Christmas so I remain optimistic that things will improve.

Well clearly you aren't in a calorie deficit any longer and need to count if you want to keep losing! Mounjaro isn't magic, you still need a calorie deficit.

No one is actually carb free, well unless you’re eating just meat and eggs. Is low carb, as even cucumber has carbs in it x

I think it’s generally understood to be less than 30g a day which is roughly the level to keep someone in ketosis. I say “low carb” as I’m mostly grain free and I don’t generally eat starchy veg (pototoes). I get carbs from cruciferous and salad veg, dairy, fruit, occasional pulses etc. For me that generally works out as around 120g carbs a bit less if I’m very careful about fruit.

Well yes that's why I asked what was being eaten to be carb free because I was surprised that someone could do it. Unless it's the same as keto.

I've managed 50g carbs before, I read that's what to aim for to be keto, some say below 100 to be low carb, I regularly do that.
