In losing weight, what have you learned about yourself (so far)?

I’ve been overweight for most of my adult life - anything ranging from 2 stone to 6 stone (and everywhere in-between).

I was at the point of total hopelessness, figuring I’d never successfully lose weight and then Mounjaro changed everything. I’m only half way through my journey (another 2.5 stone yet to go) but so far, things I’ve discovered about myself;

  1. I’m not as introverted as I thought I was! It was just that at 3 stone heavier, I didn’t want to be ‘seen’ and thought that people would judge me. All of a sudden, I’m coming out of my shell more.
  2. I do actually have a fashion sense now that I no longer feel the need to hide my body quite as much as I did. I like fitted tops, short skirts with tights and oh, turns out the colour red really suits me.

Just wondering what others are discovering about themselves?

I love walking!
Before my weight loss of 4 stone I was avoiding walking whenever possible. I was getting out of breath after a few steps and had trouble keeping up with the (normal) speed of whoever I was walking with.
Now I go for a walk every day - sometimes just a brisk 20 min walk after an exhausting day, sometimes a half-day hike. I enjoy nature and the fresh air and I love how walking makes me feel physicallly and mentally (strong and peaceful).

On the other hand I still hate jogging and working out at the gym. I still do both though as it helps with weight loss and prevents loss of muscle mass.

I’ve noticed a few other things this week!

  1. Last week I was at a large conference and all the people in my category were asked to stand up. I found myself getting straight to my feet without even thinking about it whereas in the past, I’d have hesitantly stood up but would have been pulling at and rearranging my clothes and feeling so uncomfortable.
  2. Last night the Sky box started acting up. It’s in a unit low to the floor and normally getting on the floor to fix it would be a huge chore (especially in getting off the floor). Without even thinking about it, I did it effortlessly and there was none of this trying to heave myself back to my feet. Amazing.

I poked through charity shops on the weekend, smug in the knowledge that a lot of the things I picked up would actually fit me!

(Picked up a pure lambswool jumper which is an almost exact copy of the £1500 The Row one all over social media, for £5).

That I can pick things up off the floor effortlessly again, without being aware of my stance whilst doing so.

I'm the same (6 stone loss and lighter than I was when I was 18). I'm no longer so introverted, I don't hide myself anymore. I actually love exercise and my DH says I don't snore anymore!

I'm not actually a naturally "hot" person and the night sweats weren't due to menopause. Since losing 7 stone, I've found that I sweat very little and don't dread summer any more. Not least because my thighs no longer rub together and I can wear a summer skirt without chub rub shorts underneath.

I used to kid myself that I wasn't THAT fat because I could walk for miles. I still can, but now I don't get knee and foot pain and I don't have to pick walking routes that don't involve hills or steps. I went to Peru this year and walked round all the Inca ruins with much more ease than I would have done with an extra 7 stone on me. It seems I am an outdoor person now!
