Urgent! Am I going to die?? Didn’t prime properly.

First time injecting and messed up. Badly. I did the two clicks to prime and didn’t see liquid. Did two clicks again. Not liquid. I assumed then that the amount of liquid must be so small it’s not visible.

So proceeded to inject and pressed the dial - it moved a bit and then got stuck. I assumed I wasn’t doing it right so pressed really REALLY hard and still nothing happened and the dial wouldn’t move.

Removed the needle and then liquid squirted. So clearly this was the priming happening that I didn’t do right before.

Did it again in a different injection site and it worked perfectly.

But now I’m terrified I’ve injected an air embolism into myself and I’m going to die!!!!

Someone please help!!! Should I call 111?!?!

Step 9 of the paper instructions is the pertinent part... (once the image has loaded)....

Not possible to inject air,the needles are too short.

Possiges · 07/11/2025 17:03

MrsMariaReynolds · 07/11/2025 16:57

Did you turn the dial all the way to "1" as well 2 clicks to prime? If not, that's your problem.

I did

The needles dont go deep enough, stop being silly.
You really should’nt be injecting yourself if you have no idea about the basics.

Why so aggressive?

Could I have accidentally hit a vein???

Yeah, you probably did.

ComfortFoodCafe · 07/11/2025 17:21

Why so aggressive?

Because you really shouldnt be injecting yourself if you don’t know how it works.

GirlBottle · 07/11/2025 17:27

Honestly, this is the sort of question id expect a child to be asking. How do you get to be a grown adult and not know or just have an instinct?! You shouldn't be using sharps if this is your genuine reaction. I say that because im not sure if youre saying 'hours from death' to try to be funny or not.

My post was full of hyperbole but you’ve chosen to take it deadly seriously and give a bit of a dick response. It was hyperbole covering a little bit of genuine anxiety about something not going to plan. Most people with a bit of emotional intelligence (and kindness) would have understood that and given a bit of reassurance. You’re not most people.

To be honest I thought you were serious when you asked if you could hit a vein, like you actually thought your veins were 4mm under the surface if your skin on your belly and it wasn’t just fat.

NaturalBlondeYeahRight · 07/11/2025 17:50

Jeez people- sometimes this place honestly. You can tell she’s exaggerating her ‘fear’. I’m one of the early starters of mj and we (well lots of us) found the instructions a bit confusing at first. You may have wasted some yes op. I dare say from experience that you didn’t quite screw on the needle properly.

morethanthisyeah · 07/11/2025 17:52

Yes, you will die (eventually). But not from this. 😁

Puppylucky · 07/11/2025 17:57

Yes I agree that some people are being a bit nasty but this endless neurosis about relatively basic tasks is so tiring. Genuinely why was there anxiety about this not going to plan? What do you seriously think was going to happen, based on the fact the syringes are developed and approved for home use?

FurForksSake · 07/11/2025 18:01

Go find the November starters thread, you’ll get lots of support on there!

Mysticmaiden · 07/11/2025 18:18

You could've hit a capillary but not a vein, hence some blood. I've injected for 13 months, that's a lot of injections and I've seen blood maybe a handful of times.
Please try not to worry, if you screwed to 1 once and not twice, then it will be fine. If you did it twice you may have injected 2 doses and may get some side effects. You can see on your pen there are grooves which the plunging mechanism of the pen will drop down to everytime you inject. That will tell you how many doses you have had.
If you don't see any liquid at the tip when you prime, change the needle and try again. It may have gone on slightly off its thread so not be on straight or the needle could be bent or damaged.

Apprenante · 07/11/2025 18:41

I 'primed' an entire dose the first time I injected - what a waste! I'd read the instructions very carefully and watched a video. I'm a fairly intelligent person with a science degree BUT it seemed so momentous the first time that I just went to pieces. So don't feel bad, @Possiges you'll be so much more confident next time. Good luck, I hope MJ is very successful for you.

afaloren · 07/11/2025 18:42

This made me smile because I grew up thinking getting air injected into me was going to be a way bigger death problem than it turned out to be. You’ll be fine OP. It’s not a murderous stranger with a syringe full of air into your neck.

Possiges · 07/11/2025 16:47

I actually had a YouTube video in front of me at the same time and was following it step by step…

there was a large trickle of blood when I took the needle out….

You didn’t attach the needle correctly

Injecting into fat is really safe, that's why we are allowed to do it at home with no
medical training! It's not like an injection into a vein that a nurse will do

No training? I inject a different drug (not weight loss) and I had a training session with a nurse and had to sign to say I’d done it and understood it.

SilenceInside · 07/11/2025 18:56

@ArtSandwich was that a subcutaneous self-injecting automatic pen like the Mounjaro Kwikpen or the Wegovy Flextouch pen? Even when I was given Clexane injections after my c sections to do at home, I didn't have anyone show me how to use them or have to sign anything to say I'd been shown how to use them.

These auto injection pens are designed for home use without needing any training.

You’re so kind. Thank you. I’m also meant to be an “intelligent professional” but I’m utterly overwhelmed and exhausted today. I’ve been waiting to start because I’ve been breastfeeding and today, an hour before taking the dose, was the very last time I breastfed by baby. This will be my last baby too, so it has been a really emotional day.

OP posts:
Apprenante · 07/11/2025 19:16

Forget about worrying and just enjoy your baby.

gallivantsaregood · 07/11/2025 19:49

@Possiges, next time you prime and no liquid comes out, change the needle.

ArtSandwich · 07/11/2025 20:09

Puppylucky · 07/11/2025 18:56

Because you were injecting into a vein?

No, subcutaneous into fat, using a pen system.
