Will Mounjaro work for me if…

… I am podgy because I eat whenever I am stressed, which is most of the working day. I am rarely if ever actually hungry, but I eat anyway. Can’t stop. My sugar consumption is off the scale.

I am not technically overweight but I feel flabby and sluggish and want to stop, but can’t.

Anyone else like this and has Mountjaro helped?

It probably would help with that as it turns off food noise. However if you aren’t even overweight you’re unlikely to be able to get it

MummyInTheNecropolis · 05/11/2025 18:45

You have to be obese to get WLI, so would need a BMI of 30, or 27 for some ethnicities or if you have underlying health conditions.

UneasyMe · 05/11/2025 18:46

Thank you.

Yes, I would need to lie about my weight to buy it.

I’m just desperate to break the snacking habit. I’m worried about my teeth, my cognitive function (I’m constantly sugar-addled), and the example I’m setting my kids.

I have this idea that I will take it for a month or two, break the snacking habit, then stop.

That’s what I’d love.

Has anyone else done this?

It really doesn’t work like that unfortunately. Many people don’t feel any effect at all until they get to the higher doses, which could take 3-4 months. I don’t know how you would lie about your weight either, most prescribers ask for photos and videos along with photo ID.

alqggapwbnch · 05/11/2025 18:56

I will stick my head above the parapet and say that I was able to take it for a month for somewhat similar reasons. I lost a relatively decent amount but it didn’t really stop the food noise, I still enjoyed and wanted food and snacks (it was a low dose mind) and certainly did nothing to “reset” me!

Mysticmaiden · 05/11/2025 18:58

Would you lie to get heart, diabetes, thyroid medication? Come on. This isn't the way to do it and this is why so many people end up in hospital because of misusing weight loss injections.

ColinVsCuthbert · 05/11/2025 19:24

I'm in a different country where it is easier to access (so no lies), but I will say Mounjaro did not turn off food noise as much for me, Semaglutide did (Ozempic). The most useful thing that it does though is make me thirsty, and the thirst stops me snacking as the water fills me up more. I know it is an annoying comment, but have you tried drinking a lot of water/drinking a full glass 30 mins before meals? Do as I say not as I do type advice :).

UneasyMe · 05/11/2025 19:58

Thanks @ColinVsCuthbert, but I snack because of stress, rather than hunger. I’m never actually hungry, because I’m constantly eating! I also drink a lot of squash and tea.

Surely you are looking at this the wrong way? You need to do something to reduce your stress levels as that problem will not go away. What’s your BP and sleep like?

Taking MJ as an appetite suppressant isnt going to reduce your stress levels. Will you continue on MJ as long as your stress levels are high? I think you need to chat this over with your GP.

UneasyMe · 05/11/2025 20:22

BP is fine, sleep is shit - but always has been.

When I take time off work I always drop a kg or two.

I need to break the work-snack thing.

OP posts:
BlueBlueBerries · 05/11/2025 20:24

What steps have you tried already? Do you feel you have committed fully to those actions?

KentishMama · 05/11/2025 20:27

You need a new job.

UneasyMe · 05/11/2025 20:30

@BlueBlueBerries thanks.

I’ve tried doing other things at my desk (eg putting cuticle oil on) but I always find myself at the kitchen cupboard.

I’ve tried not having snacks in the house, but I live very close to shops so it doesn’t last long. I’m an addict.

I’ve tried going into the office more often (I don’t snack there), but as a lone parent I really value the time at home to keep on top of laundry etc.

Taking Mounjaro for a month would do absolutely fuck all to help you change your habits. It only works while you're taking it. As soon as you stop taking it your brain will revert to exactly as it was before the medication.

StealthMama · 05/11/2025 20:38

If you’re not overweight then you don’t need weight loss treatment.

if you are suffering from work related stress then you should take this up with your employer and your GP.

if you don’t want to do that, then the stress isn’t so bad and -sorry to say- you’re using it as an excuse for your poor diet and habits.

sounds like it could worth researching sugar addiction and different mechanisms to regain control. Mounjaro can stop you feeling hungry, but it doesn’t stop you eating what you want. You have to create the mindset and controls.

So as long as you are in the current role you will stress eat. You are going to be using MJ to mask a different problem. I don’t think taking MJ is going to solve a stress eating problem.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 05/11/2025 20:44

Yes 100% .I was the same and lost 2st in 6 months.I sent a genuine photo but lied about my weight.

MeridaBrave · 05/11/2025 20:44

It might help in that you could feel so full you wouldn’t feel like snacking. But for me it’s more I’m not hungry, and am full at mealtimes on less.

UneasyMe · 05/11/2025 20:46

@StealthMama, yep, I <do> have appalling habits. In that way I am like everyone who finds it impossible to do “the right thing” in terms of their diet. In this country we all know what we <should> be doing, but millions of us just cannot do it. I’m not overweight, but I am an addict and I think it’s making me unhealthy and unhappy. I don’t know how to fix it.

OP posts:
StrongLikeMamma · 05/11/2025 20:47

OP have you tried eating 30g of protein 3 x a day?
Focus on protein and veg. Cut out carbs and sugar. Drink shed loads of water.
You won’t be hungry.
If you are fill up on carrots, yogurt and berries - just cut out the refined sugar.
Get as much sleep as you can.
Try this for a month and see if it helps curb your addiction.
Don’t buy junk. Chuck it all out now.
Making sure you fill up on protein and have 5 hrs between your 3 meals a day will stabilise your blood sugar levels.
It stopped me snacking.

chunkyBoo · 05/11/2025 20:51

The problem I’m considering is what are you going to do to help with the stress? If you usually snack and that helps, if you remove that, the stress relief won’t be satisfied?
hane you tried speaking to your GP about talking therapies, I think you can self refer online to this service.

MrsArcher23 · 05/11/2025 20:56

Mounjaro is a serious medication to treat the disease of obesity. It’s not a quick fix for someone who wants to lose 10 pounds.
It’s expensive and works in a metabolic level. You wouldn’t take morphine for a headache. Eat more protein and fibre. Drink more water.

You say that you are not overweight but are a stress eating addict.

What is you long term goal? Is it to reduce stress to stop stress eating? Or are you use MJ as a quick fix for a symptom and not a root cause?

ZaraCC · 05/11/2025 21:03

Hi Op,

Going against the general consensus here but I think it will help you as long as you can get it. You can get it online and like a PP said, in several countries you can just buy over counter.

I think, as you start it, also have a plan made in terms of eating. Use it as an aid to overhaul your diet rather than just expecting it to happen.

The other thing I would recommend is trying to find an exercise that you enjoy that you do 4-5 times weekly. If you are enjoying the exercise/classes, you are much more likely to try to avoid all the rubbish and to be trying to fuel your body with protein and healthy carbs - after killing myself in a strength session, I find I am so less eager to ruin it by eater lots of sweet stuff. Also, your body changes and you start to see toning so its not just about weigh loss - it is about overall strength and health.:)

SilenceInside · 05/11/2025 21:07

If you are not overweight at all, are you even gaining weight at the moment? How long has this sugar habit been going on for?

You're looking to illegally source prescription only medication intended to treat obesity when you are not even in the overweight category. It seems like an extreme response to your situation to me.
