Mounjaro needle mistake

CookieQueen1986 · 04/11/2025 08:13

This morning when injecting I was rushing and inserted the needle without twisting the pen first. When I realised, I took the pen out, twisted it to show 1 and then reinserted it again. It then immediately panicked and thought I should have used a new needle.

I’m completely spiralling now and I’ve got myself into a terrible panic that I’ve given myself an infection.

Has anyone else done this? I feel like such an idiot

How could you have given yourself an infection? Unless I am missing something that doesn’t make any sense?

By reusing the same needle twice?

I am a retired nurse and I can assure you that everything is completely fine.
Please don’t worry.
I suffer with anxiety myself so I know how nasty this can be.

rwalker · 04/11/2025 08:24

Your right there is a risk off infection but it will be absolutely minimal and not worth worrying about

it not like you had it left it lying about exposed then used it hours later

randomgeneratedusername1 · 04/11/2025 08:27

I take 5mg from 2.5mg pens currently so I do this everytime I jab. Try not to worry I am sure all will be fine 😁

SilenceInside · 04/11/2025 08:30

If you read step 13 of the paper instruction leaflet that comes with the pen, you can see that the instructions say to reinsert the same needle if you somehow haven’t injected the full dose. So there isn’t going to be an issue with what you’ve done, either.

CookieQueen1986 · 04/11/2025 08:30

Thank you everyone. I’ve been injecting in secret and I was rushing it this morning and just wasn’t thinking straight.

The risk is minimal I'm sure you'll be fine. I'm surprised the instructions advise to reinsert the needle though, this shouldn't ever be done intentionally. There is a risk of infection.

VioletandMauve · 04/11/2025 10:32

I did this on Sunday, I tried to inject into my stomach, pushed the needle in and I couldn’t press the pen down. I panicked and injected it into my thigh instead, so therefore using it twice. And I’m still fine so don’t worry.

RollyPollyBatFace · 04/11/2025 11:53

An infection from what? Yourself?

Calm down. All is fine. You need to get some help for your anxiety perhaps as this is not a normal reaction to a nothing situation

It is possible

SalmonOnFinnCrisp · 04/11/2025 12:01

It's completely fine.

Ive lost needles and used one that was a week old (more than once) approximately NOTHING happened.

Dont waste your day spiralling.

pterodactylpinky · 04/11/2025 15:06

If you read the instructions for your pen it actually tells you that if your dose is not complete you can reinsert the same needle.

You will be absolutely fine

CookieQueen1986 · 04/11/2025 08:19

By reusing the same needle twice?

Yes I get that. But where are you thinking the infection - ie germs - will come from?

I’d understand if the needle had been used on a different person beforehand, or if it had been left out for several hours in non-sterile conditions so that germs could develop. But where does the infection come from when you’re talking about reusing it on yourself immediately? You won’t be introducing anything new to your bloodstream.

ResusciAnnie · 05/11/2025 07:03

If you’d ‘injected‘ yourself with a splinter or shard of glass I bet you wouldn’t be spiralling like this. It’s the same thing, but better as it’s a sterile needle.

CAMHShelp · 05/11/2025 07:04

So your happy to put a drug in your system that has limited long-term research but you are worried that you might catch and infection from yourself by sharing needles with yourself?
OP surely you can see that this doesn’t add up.

What on earth do you mean ‘limited long-term research’?

Exactly what I said, no one seems to know the long term side effects. We might all grow an extra head in 50 years time apparently

You haven’t ‘said’ anything though. If you genuinely think this has only had short term testing, say so.

I had a minor op yesterday and the surgeon used the same needle to inject local anaesthetic multiple times. Considering it’s a subcutaneous injection being done in a non sterile environment I don’t see why you would change the needle.
