So I have had an ongoing not yet diagnosed problem in the stomach area for around 5 years now. For context I am 54 and peri-menopausal. The pain comes and goes when it pleases and feels like a slicing nerve pain, like a deep wincing pain with episode lasting from an hour to a few days at a time. Anyway, had scans/blood test etc. Cancer ruled out but no definitive idea what it is - maybe some kind of inflammatory disease of the bowel. So my weight has steadily been harder and harder to tackle since I had this problem. I am pre-diabetic and on metformin, my blood sugar all over the place - I find it really hard to shift weight. I have also been on steroids for asthma since 12 years of age so that doesn't help.

I tried to get MJ etc prescribed privately but once I fill in about asthma and the stomach problem I get rejected. I asked my GP if he would prescribe as I can't get through the eligibility online and was told I'm basically not fat enough or ill enough to qualify. I'm currently 16 stone at 5" 2.

So my question is, has anyone else experienced this and what do I do? Am I being rejected because taking this with an inflammatory problem could cause me issues?

I feel like i need help but can't get it either privately or through the GP. Open to any suggestions also about super effective diets for blood sugar. I'll try anything!

Well presumably they're not prescribing for a reason? Mounjaro slows down digestion and can cause constipation, and sometimes the opposite, diarrhoea, so you maybe wouldn't want that with an already dodgy stomach.
Try the glucose goddess, obviously wouldn't be as easy as mounjaro but it might help.

Could you try a face to face appointment with a local pharmacy that does weight loss, which would give you a chance to go into more detail about your current health issues. They may be more prepared to prescribe because they can have face to face appointments with you to monitor. Worth a try maybe?

The problem hasn't been diagnosed as digestive as such yet. It could be or could by gynaecological - they just dont know but I take your point. What is glucose goddess, is it a diet plan?

If your GP’s only reason for not prescribing is that you’re not fat enough to qualify currently, this suggests that s/he thinks it is safe for you to take. I would ask if this is the case, if “yes” I would not mention the other issues on your application to the private prescriber. I will probably get flamed for this though!

Foryourpiesonly · 28/10/2025 18:11

@McHot not sure I'd risk mounjaro with any kind of stomach difficulties, I've been on it a few months and have experienced stomach troubles at times, I mean you could lie on the forms, but obviously that's at your risk, the glucose goddess is a woman called Jessie inchauspie, she has written a diet plan around balancing blood sugar.

@Woodenwonder , how many potential suppliers have you tried? They have different criteria.

IsItSnowing · 28/10/2025 18:49

It's not likely the asthma (I've had no problem getting it from multiple suppliers and I have asthma) so must be the stomach problem. Have you tried Oushk or one of the more flexible suppliers (the monj page has maintenance friendly ones which tend to be more flexible generally and will talk to you rather than just say no).

My husband has asthma and on them, so it’s not that, plenty the same, it is the undiagnosed stomach issues, they can’t risk it I’m afraid and I’d be surprised if any pharmacy does, any decent one.

i am unsure your gp was saying they are safe to take, more he was sayinf simply he can’t get into that as you dont meet the first line criteria, very few do, its bmi over 40 with 4 of 5 obesity related conditions.

PrioritisePleasure24 · 29/10/2025 08:13

It’s for a good reason that they won’t prescribe it. I get that you are frustrated but seriously don’t mess with your health when you already have issues.

If you thinks it’s inflammatory condition research foods and diets which will help that because it’s all probably linked up including your diabetes. Focus on nutrition and movement because it really can help. Helped my IBS.

Thelankyone · 29/10/2025 08:23

I think the only way round it is to push your gp for further investigation for a diagnosis. Once you know what it is, then based on that an informed prescribing decision can be made, but it would be very remiss of any pharmacy to prescribe when they don’t know what health conditions you have.
