Dropping a dress size

I’m still mostly wearing 18s even though some forgiving 16s were wearable a few months ago, but at the weekend I tried a pair of size 16 jeans I’d bought on impulse from a charity shop in the summer, and they actually fitted. I couldn’t do them up when I bought them.

This sort of thing is still amazing me! Considering a new dress for a party in December.

Well done! Yes I tend to hang to my outsized clothes a bit too long and end up walking about looking awful till they get at risk of falling off then I get new things.

A tip I read was to keep the biggest thing you ever fitted into. I did this and tried it on a few weeks ago, it was laughably too big. It has shown me how far I've come

GhostOrchid · 17/10/2025 11:02

Congrats! That’s great.

I’m hanging on to a Lucy & Yak jumpsuit I bought and couldn’t get in to in the hope I can in a few weeks time.

SilenceInside · 17/10/2025 11:02

It's great, finding that something you thought was too small now actually fits. I was a size 24 plus when I started way back when, and now I am in size 14! And not just stretchy size 14s but fitted things.

I have kept one t-shirt, the one that I squeezed into (just), to do my first set of photos for my first Mounjaro prescription. It's now like an off-the-shoulder dress on me...

GoldieLookingBoots · 17/10/2025 11:05

Well done OP! It’s great seeing clothes you’ve always worn become too big! Only problem is, you end up needing new clothes that are going to not last long in your wardrobe. As if being on weightless medication isn’t already very expensive. If you aren’t already, set yourself up on Vinted or EBay for buying and selling.

PermanentTemporary · 17/10/2025 11:06

I’m afraid I’m definitely hanging on to all my clothes, including the size 22s I started in. I do not have faith that I’ll be one of the ones that keeps it off… at the moment I’ve still got 7 kg to go which for me takes a long time, and I’m shelving all decisions about the longer term until then.

Well done! I brought some size 16 jeans that were very, very snug just before I started the injections (tbf they were the last straw that made me realise I was pushing a size 18 at only five ft 2) they are now hanging off me and I have to hold them up with a belt. It's a great feeling 😃 I'm wearing a new size 12 dress out tonight and inted to feel fabulous.

About to start jabs this week and can’t even imagine dropping a dress size yet - well done op!

Somethingsnapped · 19/10/2025 15:42

It's great reading these! I haven't properly dropped a dress size yet. I'd lost 16 lbs on my last check two weeks ago (I only weigh myself once a month), and some of my size 16s are a bit too big now, but the 14s are still too tight (although I can do them up). They haven't felt any easier in the last two weeks either, which makes me nervous that I've stalled. Will someone reassure me please?! It feels so slow. Not on the scales so much, but the visual effects. Some days I feel great, and others I am sure I just look exactly the same. I'm in the latter category at the moment. I've convinced myself it's all gone back on... 😫

I'm on week 11. This weekend was the first time I've not felt fat for a long time. I have lost nearly 2 stone now and am a comfortable size twelve. It's not lot for some but I'm only 5ft2.
Once the initial water weight came off I was frustrated at only losing a pound or two a week but it really does make a difference and slow and steady wins the race. You will get there.

PurpleCoo · 19/10/2025 21:57

It's a lovely feeling isn't it? Well done on your weight loss!

I started as a size 16, and I'm a 10 -12 now depending on the shop/brand. As I was hanging up my laundry earlier I realised my leggings look like children's leggings. My walking trousers seem so narrow as well, but they fit very comfortably.

I held off on getting new clothes for ages as it seems a waste to buy in between sizes when you will only be in them for a month or so, but now I have started buying clothes that fit, it just looks so much better. Luckily I wear dresses for work and they look great with a belt, so at least I haven't had to replace my whole wardrobe!

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 19/10/2025 22:01

I started as a size 24/26 and I'm a 10/12 now.

It's taken almost 22 months.

My BMI was over 50 to begin with and it's 28 now. Which begs the question - as I'm a size 10/12 now, with a BMI of 28, do I need to carry on?

I've lost 8st 4lb. This is what I look like these days.

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 19/10/2025 22:04

It would have helped if I'd attached the pictures 🤣

You look great! Did you begin with a target in mind?

GhostOrchid · 19/10/2025 22:12

Wow, that’s an amazing achievement. I can’t imagine being a 10/12. I think I was about 12 last time I fit in those sizes.

I’m a perennial size 18, and for more structured clothes I probably need a bigger size or two. Quite depressing yesterday when I tried on a black suit jacket, size 20, and couldn’t event do it up. But then I’ve never been able to wear tailoring. I’m kind of bulky up top (big bust, quite a lot of fat on my upper back and arms). Looking forward to getting smaller, but I think it’ll take a while. Even with my more successful weight loss attempts I hover in the 16-18 zone.

Yes, 10st 10lb, which leaves me 16lb left to lose.

PermanentTemporary · 19/10/2025 22:42

Yes, I’m thinking tbh that being a smaller 16 is the most (least) I would expect. I’m 57, menopausal, 5’9” and am a solid Saxon heifer with the delicate ladylike frame of a brick shithouse. I haven’t been a size 14 since I was 21. That’s all fine. I feel pleasantly sexy at this weight, and judging by DP’s reaction, he feels the same.

I’m losing about a kilo a month at the moment, provided I count calories like an demon and get some exercise. I can eat and am not much troubled by side effects at 10.

To give you some hope, I started as a 22 in early 2024 and am now almost 9st down and in 10-12s.

I have become one of those people who could fit into one leg of my old trousers.
