Gained a stone?!

NoOneToCallWhenThePlaneLands · 16/10/2025 17:33

I’m just going to spill everything here because my head is a mess.

I started mounjaro last summer. I lost about seven stone.

I had been feeling like it was less effective for me for a while now. But I pressed on, and stayed on it while I was having surgery three months ago. I was 15 stone 8 when I went for my surgery.

Since that, I have been less active than usual. I was still eating at maintenance/a slight deficit.

i started back at the gym three weeks ago. I’ve gone into a full on programme of cardio and muscular exercises.

I’ve weighed myself at the gym tonight and I’m 16 stone 5.

im gutted. I feel like I could cry. I haven’t been 100%, but definitely not at a point to gain that much. I feel like there’s no point continuing to pay for Mounjaro when I’m just failing on it, but also I wouldn’t be able to continue at my current calorie level (1400 a day), without it.

my current stats are

5 foot 4.7

16 stone 5.

what do I do?! I don’t know whether switching to wegovy could be useful?! I’m currently doing a split dose of 10mg every 4 days.

I just feel like throwing in the towel. Maybe this is where I’m meant to end up

So actually only a pound heavier than before surgery. Ignore this weight, it’s explainable.

Your bmi is in the high 30s and I’d be inclined to keep going up the doses so that it can help with you losing the weight. Particularly as you think without it you’d be struggling with the deficit.

I’m aware of my bmi.

unfortunately I just can’t afford to go up to 15 again. I need to wean myself down and would ideally be at a dose of about 7.5 or even 5 across the week. I have already weaned down to 10 from 15, and intend to keep going down. I cannot afford to do anything else.

FurForksSake · 16/10/2025 18:07

good luck.

Is there any need to be condescending?

Do you normally weigh yourself at the gym? If your measurements are basically the same I'd be thinking this gain is actually just different scales weighing differently. I've had some very dodgy scales in the past. If the gym never calibrate theirs and they're being used a lot they might just be plain wrong.

This was my first time but I don’t see how it could be that wildly out. I just feel really deflated and like giving up. I just don’t see how I can be failing at this so badly.

So, I would ignore the gym scales as inaccurate and stick to your home scales.

The not being able to afford it is a totally separate issue, but I can see how it has made you panic about gaining weight. It’s going to be hard to maintain weight loss whilst also trying to reduce your dose due to cost. I think you have to be realistic about that and be aware that reducing your dose is going to make it harder to stick to the calorie deficit. If you have no choice about that then it’s just a question of giving it a go and seeing how you get on.

VelociraptorsVelociRapping · 16/10/2025 18:14

If your measurements are unchanged then there is no way that you have gained a stone of fat. There must be another explanation.

That’s why I’m testing out split dosing. If I can get down to splitting a 7.5 and staying in my deficit (while using willpower), that’s what I’ll do.

They can be massively out, I have experienced it myself. Especially if you are weighing at different times of day as then you get normal weight gain while awake added to however much the scales are out. Weigh yourself on your usual scales at your usual time of day.

Like what though? I have health anxiety so now my mind is running to the worst case scenario

What does “giving up” mean? Just immediately stopping the medication and stopping counting calories? One outlier measurement on different scales is meaningless. You cannot and have not put on 10lbs in 3-4 days. It is definitely down to inaccurate scales. So stick with your scales which have been consistent so far. “Giving up” isn’t an option that makes any sense.

Increased water retention due to increased physical activity, insufficient hydration, hormonal bloating?

Plus using different scales!

If you are 5ft3 then 1400 calories could be just above maintenance. It’s hard to track really closely.

Not at 16 stone!

You may have gained a few pounds of fat, plus you're retaining a lot of water from resuming at the gym and they are different scales. Weigh yourself tomorrow morning at home and see what you weigh.

NoOneToCallWhenThePlaneLands · 16/10/2025 18:20

Green leggings is me just before my surgery. Pink is today, so I don’t know? I feel like when comparing my mid section I’m looking a little leaner if anything

Gained a stone?!

Firstly no need for panic stations.

Its not a stone, yes nearly but not a stone

3 weeks of gym work will have caused a bit of water retention around your joints as they're not used to it, so some of it will be water weight

The rest, you can just tweak your calories so that you are in a deficit. You need less to eat becuase you lost weight and you just need to keep tweaking downwards so that you're still in deficit.

Then be careful about maintenance. Its easy to go over maintenance becuase we get complacent

You lost weight before, you'll do it again.

VelociraptorsVelociRapping · 16/10/2025 18:26

Absolutely no way is there a stone's worth of difference between those two photos, OP. With nothing but kindness, I feel like I want to give you the online version of a slap to the face for someone who is hysterical. You are spiralling based on poor data. I don't know if you are someone who responds well to tough love but you need to pull yourself together!

I feel like if anything I look like I should have lost, but I haven’t! When I get in from the gym I’m going to weigh on the scales at home naked and see what they say

OP posts:
soupyspoon · 16/10/2025 18:31

You should weigh everyday because then you get used to knowing how your body fluctuates and what causes it, if you are maintaining

I can get on the scales one day and suddenly 8lbs is on. Then its not.

Its just the way I am. I hold on to a lot of water at times.

NoOneToCallWhenThePlaneLands · 16/10/2025 19:50

So naked on the same scale as usual I’m 16 stone 3.

so still a huge gain
