3 months on mounjaro and no loss

between Jan and April this year I lost 2.5 stone on a keto diet and felt great. I have another 2-3 stone to lose (SW 18st, CW 15st 10 lbs, GW around 13st 7lbs). I started to find the weight loss really slow down and thought I’d try mounjaro to help me lose the remaining weight. Keto was really restrictive and I was finding it hard to stick to it. I started MJ in July and have built up to 10mg, but I haven’t lost any weight on it. I train twice a week with a PT and eat well, but have found since I’ve been on MJ I feel sick and I’m reaching for beige foods. I have chronic constipation on it and I’ve not noticed any of the positive side effects at all… I’m desperate to reduce food noise but I still feel exactly the same as I did before. I had assumed I needed a higher dose for it to work, but even that isn’t doing anything. Has anyone else had this experience? I’m thinking of switching to Wegovy to see if that helps. Obviously I can’t afford to stay on it if it’s not working, I just had high hopes this would help me shift the last few stone.

hmm really interesting reading the replies. To be clear when I say ‘reaching for beige food’ I don’t mean the majority of my diet is beige or made up of UPF. I mean I’m more likely to go for a jacket potato or beans on toast over a salad or pasta over veggie curries etc that I was eating a lot of on keto. I’m training twice a week like I said in my OP, walk around 7-8k steps a day and I’m pretty active generally (I have a non stop 16mo and a 4yo!).

I do appreciate I’m obviously choosing the wrong foods and not in deficit, but I just really thought mounjaro would help with controlling the hunger and cravings so I found it easier. I guess it really is too good to be true for some people!

I suspected that’s what you meant. After keto you’ve went for carbs all the carbs, after depriving yourself. You need to get to a stage you get that desire out your system. Mounjaro does reduce hunger and cravings , but most of us can eat through it if we chose. Which after keto I think that’s what you’re doing. Your desire to eat the carbs after depriving yourself is stronger than your desire to listen to your body and diet.

It’s the carbs. I gave in to carbs the other week and I put on 2 lbs that week. The first time in 9 months I’ve put on weight.

When I started Mounjaro the only food I could tolerate was white bread on the days when nausea was bad. In fact some days it was the only food I could hold down. Eating white bread is very out of character for me. I normally don’t eat much bread and when I do I opt for granary or sour dough. My issue has always been portion sizes which is why I thought Mounjaro could work for me. Perhaps it was the bread that stopped the weight loss (although I didn’t munch through a whole loaf a day).

I didn’t lose in my first 3 months and didn’t feel any appetite suppression. On 7.5 it is better and I’ve lost 6 pounds in 3 weeks. Still not amazing though!
and yes I count my calories but I’m so hungry which I thought it was meant to help with!
I think I’m a non responder tbh. I don’t respond well to some other drugs either.

Carbs aren’t the devil they really aren’t and we need some, but they can be problematic especially if coupled with insulin resistance which unfortunately can actually be caused by long term obesity.

The main reasons they will stop you losing weight are:

  • They cause you to retain water so you’ll be measuring heavier because of that
  • They raise your blood sugar and one of our bodies mechanisms to deal with excess sugar is to turn it into fat
  • Excess sugar in your blood also causes feelings of hunger, it’s one of the signs to look out for as a diabetes symptom. If you feel hungry you eat which then makes being in a deficit harder.

Carbs should always be paired with fat or protein - egg on toast, apple slices with peanut butter, the addition of the fat/protein helps your body to break down the sugar. You should also choose more complex carbs because they take longer to break down into sugar so easier for your body to cope and they have other good stuff like vitamins, minerals and fibre.

You know what you need to do in your heart of hearts.

Oh and I completely missed the mention of constipation. I take psyllium husk, 2 capsules a day and that’s enough when combined with 2 lts water a day to keep things moving.

susiedaisy1912 · 08/10/2025 10:36

Op I would track calories and move up to the next dose. You’ve come this far so keep going. I follow a few people on TT who didn’t see any significant weight loss until the top two doses, one of them is in maintenance now but has had to stay on the 12.5mg dose. Anything less and she says the food noise and compulsive eating comes straight back.

Just wanted to come back and update this thread. I decided to give the jabs another month or two before calling it a day and switched to ozempic because of the pricing. It’s been like night and day with mounjaro. Food noise is dulled, appetite has decreased, I’m finding it so much easier to stick to a calorie deficit. This is exactly what I wanted when I started mounjaro but it simply didn’t work for me! Wanted to share incase someone else stumbled across this thread and felt the same way!

This really interesting thank you. I’m now 6 months in and have only lost 1stone 9lb. The first 3 months I lost nothing and felt no effects of the drug. I kept thinking I just needed the higher dose. I’ve just started on the top 15mg dose but it just feels like after 2 days the food noise is back. I’m losing 1lb a week, which for how much it’s costing is disappointing!
I will look into changing to ozempic, I don’t know how easy it is to get in the uk but I’ll research.
