Waiting for gallbladder removal with BMI 37... wegovy?

Hi, I am waiting for my gallbladder to be removed as it is "full of stones and shows long term irritation"
My BMI is 37 and I read on my local NHS website that those with BMI of 35+ will need to go on a 2-4 week extreme diet immediately before surgery to decrease the chance of a bad result.
At the same time as sending me for diagnostic ultrasound on my gallbladder, my GP refered me for NHS level 3 weightloss, which I understand is WLI but has a 2 year waiting list.
I thought I'd use the waiting time to get WLI privately as clearly I need to lose a lot of weight for the surgery, but all the WLI list gallstones or worse as side effects.
Has anyone tried to get WLI with gallstones, or got gallstones from WLI? Would I be refused because of them?

wli with gall bladder issues are contra indicated. I developed gallstones as a result of wli ( mounjaro) and’s was told to stop immediately and after 6 months regain thought “maybe I should just try the open pen I’ve got in the fridge?” . Biiiig mistake. I spent ten days connoting so hard that i burst a blood vessel in my eye and looked like something from a horror movie.

I did recently have weight loss surgery AND my gall bladder removed at the same time and it’s the very best thing I’ve ever done in my life. I feel bloody brilliant despite being just 8 weeks post op. I’ve gone from 17st 9 to 14st 2 and my body feels so much healthier and like I’m not being poisoned by that awful gall bladder. The surgery was much longer than it should have been for me and it was mostly focused on my gall bladder. I had an “empeyema (?)” and basically my gb was about to explode with infection, was rammed with stones, I had a totally blocked duct and it had adhered to things it shouldn’t have adhered to. The surgeon was amazed I managed to to walk into the operating room and that I was so chipper. I spent 4 days on I’ve antibiotics to prevent sepsis/infection and I’ve bounced back.

stick with the weight loss referral. Do you snore? If you do you can get tested for sleep soba and if you have that it’s a pass to tier 4. My entire journey took 2 years from start to finish.

The weight loss referral to tier 3 is not automatically WLI, they would consider any other conditions you have first to determine if they are safe for you.

You need to tell your GP you are considering WLI privately and ask if they are safe with your current conditions. I think they answer is likely to be no, but if you are keen do ask your Dr, do not try to get privately without knowing the risks.

Thank you both very much.
I'm honestly terrified of all these things and only holding down the surgery fear by mentally boxing it and knowing there is a good chance things will be better afterwards. So far as I can tell I have passed 4 stones, taking about 18 hours for each of the first 3, and the 4th got stuck in my pancreas which eventually got a Dr's attention. It fixed itself after a week or so. By the time they were worried about me I was better.
I've been told it will be 32 weeks just to see the consultant.

I only snore on my back or with a heavy cold, but that is I think from years of reflux damage due to my hernia, also being flabby of course. I am so broken.

Maybe I could get my hernia fixed at the same time as the gall bladder. I thought they didn't generally do more than one thing at a time. I don't want a gastric band, partly because of the hernia but the feeling you describe is what I'm looking for. Just fix me!

However what you have described is exactly what I fear.

Right, you absolutely CAN get weight loss surgery at the same time as a hernia repair AND a gall bladder removal. I consented to a hernia repair if needed in the same surgery. Bypass surgery helps to resolve chronic reflux and also supports hernia repair as your insides are less packed with fat as you lose weight. There are several people in the fb group I use that have had bypass specifically for helping a hernia repair and to reduce reflux. its “barriatric support gastric sleeve /bypass uk” on Facebook. Is a really helpful, non judgemental group and you can post anonymously. The search function is brilliant and you will be able to find all sorts of help and advice without posting.

where about in the country are you? I am in the nw under Aintree and they have very short waiting times relative the the test of the country. The group can often talk you through local waiting times and expectations etc

Thank you, I am in the se.
I have looked at all the WL surgery options and they are quite terrifying. The adjustable one seems to be a lot like my hernia (but adjustable) as I think of myself as having a little stomach and a big stomach. It seems like the more drastic and permanent ones have fewer failures. I don't think I'm ready to go there yet.
It's good to hear your op was a success despite all the complications and urgency. Maybe I'll try another diet/exercise thing while I wait <sigh>
