Wegovy vs Mounjaro - please help me decide

TLDR I mainly want a jab that reduces inflammation/inflammatory conditions, and is good for insulin resistance, with the least risk of side effects, especially gastro side effects. I do need to lose weight but not loads. My endo has prescribed Wegovy, do I stick with this or ask the endo to prescribe MJ which is what I'd originally decided on?

I've just started another thread, but wanted to put this separate question in a separate thread. I have been researching weight loss jabs for ages after I started noticing people reporting that they have been helped with their inflammatory conditions. I have multiple inflammatory health conditions, come with no known cause, and a generally sensitive or overactive immune system.

I now also meet the criteria for GLP-1 jabs as I have been slowly gaining weight on and off for years and have not able to lose it for some time. I have thyroid disease and PCOS, I suspect insulin resistance.

I am a stuck in an awful spiral of physical and mental health issues which are all triggering each other, and stopping me from consistently being able to exercise and diet (and lead a normal life but that's for another thread) This has all led to obesity which is of course making all that worse.

So I have been researching loads about the jabs and I had settled on Mounjaro despite the extra cost. Mainly because it's more effective, and because it works on two receptors and it is meant to be slightly better for PCOS/Insulin resistance. Plus I personally know a few people on it which is reassuring. But it was a bit of a finger in the air job as, apart from the weight loss being better (and I don't have that much to lose, as I am only just "obese"), everyone seems to have different experiences so it is a bit "try it and see".

However, my endo has prescribed Wegovy as it's cheaper. If I go back to him, and say I'd actually prefer to start on MJ, I suspect that he would be happy for that. So just wanted to get some opinions on whether to stick to Wegovy, and/or whether for what I want it would be worth causing hassle for my lovely endo, and paying the extra cost? Another factor is that I have a history of digestive issues but have been reading mixed reports on whether MJ or Wegovy causes more side effects.

I feel really torn and struggling to decide.

How much can you afford to spend on an ongoing basis? If money is no object, then I'd go with MJ. If money is a big consideration, then I'd lean toward Wegovy.

Thanks Burnserns, money isn't endless but if it's the difference between between healthy and having a life, and the non-life I currently have, then we'll find it. My DH is supportive in that. However, if the cheaper drug could have the same effect, then I don't want to spend money that we don't need to if that makes sense.

What's your thinking, in terms of why do you think MJ would be better for me based on my situation/goals?

MJ has better results in clinical trials in terms of weightloss, but it is now more expensive. Neither of these medications are a quick fix for things like insulin resistance, so in your shoes I'd be thinking long term. If spending £270 a month in the long term is manageable then MJ tends to be the more effective medication for weightloss.

I've been on MJ for 8 months, but if I were starting now I'd probably go with Wegovy as it is cheaper and it will come off patent sooner than MJ (I am planning to be on GLP1 long term). I may still swap when I hit maintenance.

Thanks that's a really good point. It may worth at least trying Wegovy as its so much cheaper especially if you look at the long term costs.🤔 As you say, with what I am looking for, this is a long term/permanent medication, not a short term thing so the long term, rather than just monthly costs needs to be thought about plus what about if circumstances change.... Plus I had forgotten that Wegovy was coming off patent soon so should get even cheaper (or the generics will), so thanks for that reminder. This is leaning me towards sticking with the Wegovy. Really helpful thank you.
