Injecting myself

First, apologies. I know this is in the WLI thread but I was hoping the people in this group would be best to advise on this matter!
I’m due to start clexane injections for my pregnancy and I’m really struggling to get started. I’m absolutely terrified of having to do it, especially every day!
Does anyone have any hints and tips to make it more comfortable, less painful, less bruising, etc?
I’m sat in my room looking at the box of injections and just not braved opening them yet.

I know it is daunting to think of injecting yourself but Clexane needles are tiny so you will likely not even feel it. Main things are to inject into a fatty area and do it quickly rather than slowly and hesitantly. Rotate your injection sites and avoid the area around your belly button.

I had to inject blood thinners into my bump daily it was awful 😔 you have my full sympathies. Have you got a partner who can do it for you? Or even a close family member?
To reduce bruising make sure you squeeze about an inch of fat, inject into that space, leave the injection there a minute, let go of the inch and slowly bring the needle out. My bump was black and blue towards the end I hated every minute. Hand hold x
Edit to say the injection itself doesn't hurt, but the medication going into your body stings like a bitch 😬 try not to rub it and wiggle your toes, distracts from the sting x

Thanks ladies.
DH is not good with any sort of medical anything so he won’t be able to do it for me unfortunately. DD is 15 so she probably would but I couldn’t ask her to do it.
I think I just need to get the first one out of the way and hopefully I’ll see it’s not too bad. I just can’t bring myself to do it

The first one is the worst OP! I was really scared when I started WLI, having never injected myself before.
There are YouTube videos which I found v useful. I've used both the pen and insulin needle (to get the 5th dose out) now and it's not scary at all. Just do a YT search and watch a few.

Clexane isn’t supposed to be injected quickly. Read the instructions in the package. As a student nurse I was taught to inject over a certain number of seconds but it’s so long ago I cant remember. Ensure the needle is 90 degrees to the skin. Rotate the site and don’t inject within so far of your navel. Just read the instructions.

The first time is always a bit anxiety inducing. I'd open the box and check the contents before you are actually going to inject, maybe read the instructions, just to get that out of the way. Then when you are going to do the first one it will be a little bit less unfamiliar and strange.

Then just find a quiet time when you will have 5 minutes undisturbed, and go for it.

Sorry, I meant put the needle in quickly. Some people go very slowly and hesitantly and that hurts more than just putting it in confidently.

I was terrified too. (Clexane after major surgery.) I found laying down to do it made it easier as I knew that if I came over all peculiar I was already laying down. I was surprised how quickly I got used to it - by the third one I didn’t bat an eyelid.

Thanks all!
The worst thing is that I’m actually medical, so I see injections all the time and have done a few myself (haven’t kept my cannulation certificate up!) so I can do it on other people! I just don’t have it in me to deliberately hurt myself 😂
