Any chance my 'apron' will disappear?!

After having my son several years ago via c section, i've had a lovely tummy that hangs over. It's got bigger as i've got bigger to the point I can't even see my you know what anymore 😂 any chance this will disappear as the weight comes off or am I stuck with it forever? My stomach is very round and seems to be where all my weight goes to. I've been on mounjaro for 3 jabs so far and lost 17lbs. I'm hopeful it will have a difference to my overall body but feeling skeptical about the hang bit. Anyone able to share any success stories?

You need to exercise throughout this journey, core exercises, strength, ensure you eat enough protein, aim for min 1g per kg of body weight, to ensure you loose fat and not muscle, and moisturise all over every day, keeping the skin supple and effectively massaging it. Then you can make a huge improvement.

if you just diet and don’t do any of the above, no, it won’t go.

SilenceInside · 14/09/2025 08:50

To be honest, it probably won't go even if you do all of what the PP has described. I am resigned to it, and hope that getting to my target weight will reduce it as much as possible but accept that I will still have loose skin there. It takes a long time for skin to regenerate, so I will give it plenty of time, as I was obese for a very long time too. The younger you are, and the less you've yo-yoed will probably help.

AmyDuPlantier · 14/09/2025 08:53

No, it won’t; I had the same and had a tummy tuck; best decision I ever made.

ChrisMartinsKisskam · 14/09/2025 09:20

Nope it won’t go
and to be honest the more weight you lose the worse it will be in terms of hanging loose sorry if I’m being brutal

you can do all the exercise in world
put as much lotions and potions on as you can buy
but only surgery - tummy tuck with muscle repair will get rid of it and give you back a flat tight stomach

you could have panniculectomy surgery which removes the loose skin and no MR / TT
but most people have either a Tummy tuck with MR

Uk you will pay around 10k
abroad 3-4K like Turkey Lithuania

JustPickleRick · 14/09/2025 09:33

High-waisted bikini for the summer it is 😅 thanks for the replies. I'm not interested in surgery, so expensive! Thankfully it can be hidden.

Just to say that I was in a similar position re: apron overhang. I’ve been on 9 months and lost nearly 40kg. While it’s certainly still there, it’s actually much much smaller - far more of an improvement than I was hoping having heard similar about it not going. So while I agree that I expect surgery is the only way it’ll totally go, don’t underestimate the improvements that lots of protein, strength training (especially core) and moisturising can bring.

I think it’s about expectations… if you’re expecting a flat smooth stomach - you need surgery. If you’re expecting no improvement and just empty skin hanging down - you might be pleasantly surprised!

As a disclaimer - I’ve gone hard on the strength training and protein, and according to my fancy scales, have actually gained 1kg or so of muscle mass while losing almost 40kg overall. It is hard work, but worth it I feel, and I get such a buzz out of it now. Buying a peloton guide was my best investment alongside the drugs!

Yellowsubmarine55 · 14/09/2025 09:58

I've lost nearly 4 stone and still have mine, it's smaller but still there in all it's glory 😁

Only do walking and resistance training so not mega exercise.

Wildgoat · 14/09/2025 12:01

Op, I lost 6 and a half stone, my stomach was my worst area, this is mine now. I’m in my fifties, please don’t underestimate the huge difference you can make if you put in the daily effort. I also have had a c section, this is just a photo I took awhile ago, I now have about a half inch just where my c section scar is, and no loose skin. That’s on my upper arms only and as I work my triceps’s it’s also disappearing,

Same! The more weight I lost and the more I toned up the lower the apron hung. Had it removed 5 years ago. Money well spent!

Wow, you look fab! I'm just starting my mounjaro journey but fingers crossed i'll head in the direction you have 🤩

Mine is overall smaller (have lost 3 stones on MJ) although in some ways looser. And generally looks better.
Annoyingly though, it is now crepey above my belly button, whereas before there was fat there so it was smoother. So my high waisted bikini is no longer quite doing the job…

HeartbrokenCatMum · 14/09/2025 15:00

So I lost a lot of weight years ago and the apron stayed, the only thing that has got rid of it was and still is exercise, for me it’s stomach crunches and pilate rolls.

Iamthemoom · 14/09/2025 15:18

Mines gone totally so it absolutely can but I only had about 4 stone to lose so that might be a factor. I use bio oil and also Strivectin body cream. Honestly I don’t exercise as much as I should or eat enough protein. Best intentions but I can’t stomach it on Mounjaro. But I eat very healthily over all just much smaller portions now.

Thank you, I only posted as I was concerned about the responses you got saying not feasible, it is often feasible, not for everyone and it depends on how much you need to lose, but it is feasible, I’m living proof, but it doesn’t happen just as you lose weight. Your tummy doesn’t just shrink back like after you have a baby.

It happens if you lose weight in a healthy manner, ie I lost about 2 lbs a week max, if you undertake strength and resistance training, if you do core exercises, if you ensure you eat your protein so you lose fat snd not muscle and if you moisturise the area daily as the massaging motion helps.

you may not get rid of it all, but you will make a huge improvement, and it takes continued daily effort.

when I see images of people who habe not lost their stomachs in many cases they didn’t really focus on these things, and then did not like what they saw at the end. Weight loss is about way more than a number on the scales.

good luck.

Crunches won't get rid of an apron belly Confused it's literally fat and loose skin, there is no muscle in it to exercise

CoastalCalm · 14/09/2025 15:29

Mine actually looked better when I was overweight as at least it was filled out

Woompund · 14/09/2025 15:29

My overhang has reduced significantly. If you get your body fat down low enough it may go almost completely. I've seen some women who were very large and become very slim left with a hanging empty skin pouch but that's mostly bad luck. If you lose the fat then the apron will shrink, and if you're lucky the skin will shrink back with it.

JustPickleRick · 14/09/2025 15:38

Lots of mixed responses. I'll come back in a year and update 😂

Mine has pretty much gone, I've lost 20kg over the last year on MJ, it's been slow but steady. I havent done huge amounts of exercise throughout, wanted to make sure what I did was sustainable when I come off. Skin looked a bit baggy but has caught up now. It's not like it would have been when I was 20 but I'm 45 with 2 DC, my expectations are different and I look grand in a bikini which I'm happy about.

It mostly has for me. It hung down but now I can hold it in, and looks flat in clothes. It obviously isn’t a tight flat stomach when naked but I’m okay with that. I thought I was destined to have a big apron forever.
Definitely worth doing! And only took a few months to make a difference, I do the ones on 30 day shred. I know it’s fat but the tighter ab muscles make it easier to hold in.

I don't think you've got an apron belly as people on the thread are talking about. Tight abs won't hold in an apron. It hangs down by itself. You can't pull it in, it's excess skin and fat that hangs below the waistline. Technical term is panniculus.

sadtimeshardtimes · 14/09/2025 19:36

The apron is skin that still has fat in it which pulls it down. If you lose all the fat from your belly it can’t hang down. You will likely have some loose skin but not the apron

MiniCoopers · 14/09/2025 19:47

I lost 10 stone and have has 2 c sections and a full abdominal hysterectomy… I definitely have a loose skin apron belly.
