Longest you have made a pen last

Hi all,
The title really, how long if you are micro dosing or spreading doses, reduced dose with higher pen etc etc. I know it says 30 days but people often comment they go longer with them. Thanks

Well, taking 3.75 using a 7.5 pen so about 10 weeks I think...

Of course, there were risks involved, and I can't recommend doing this, but...

I've done 6 doses before 35 days, current pen will be 7 doses 42 days

About 10 weeks for me too, taking smaller doses from a 7.5 pen. I've been having some mild but persistent abdominal pains so dropped back to 2.5 as a precaution, while trying to work out if they're related to existing conditions, Mounjaro or something else although.
I'm not recommending it to anyone else but haven't noticed any issues from extending the pen use.

I'm having issues too with stomach, so I have dropped down. I was fine till I had several weeks on 5mg then bam. 🫣 I have dropped to 2.5mg but still getting the issues a day after injecting. I don't understand why I was fine and then I wasn't after several weeks.

I have gone up in strength of doses with time . ..but increased the strength of my order each month.
The net result is that I have built a stockpile of pens.
I have always kept them in the fridge tucked away in a 1kg stork margarine tub and not told a soul about them.
I now have to project forward to a time when I will stop because I have too much of a stockpile (over a years supply) seemed foolish in the past but with the recent price rises now feeling quite fortuitous...

7 weeks. No issues. My own experience

I take 5 mg from a 15mg pen so it lasts me 15 weeks. Have never went above 5mgs and now using that dose as maintenance since hitting my goal weight. I also have a stock of pens and plan on coming off next April when I have maintained for a year.
only saying from my experience no problems at all but everyone has to make their own choices.

Your pen will be fine, my sons insulin can last months so no doubt mj can too.

I’ve decided going forwards to buy a bigger dose every month even if I don’t go up as it’s much cheaper to buy this way. I’m currently taking 3.75 from a 5mg- will buy 7.5 next week but not decided whether to go up to 5 or not yet. So I guess the pen will last 8-10 weeks. I’m prepared to take the risk

i Do 5mg from a 10mg pen every ten days. So a long time! It’s fine. Wash hands, use a wipe on the pen where the needle goes in, etc

That had crossed my mind too. I currently take 3.5mg every 5 days (0.42 mls) and managed to get 7 and a half doses up to day 35. Until/unless the extra mls disappear from the pens, I could extend this further by moving to 7.5mg.

Has anyone got or seen a chart that gives you the amount of drug and how many ml needed, just thinking about buying a pen and making it last longer than 5 weeks.

42 days is my current max. Probably going to start pushing that a bit as looking to take 5mg doses from a 10mg pen I have.

I had a spare 5 that was getting closer to use by date so I used it as 2.5 for 10 weeks to make my 10 pens 12.5 . Kept in fridge , was fine..

You are all easing my mind a bit. Thanks. I have already been doing less from a 7.5ml due to side effects, but have a 7.5ml ready to go and will have to continue at less. Then a 2.5mg I purchased on offer from provider just as prices went up. I was intending on doing 1mg to taper off.

With the steep price rises I reckon many people will now be eeking out their pens for as long as possible, me included.

I’m maintaining now, I bought a 5 mg pen last year and have had 4 x 2.5 mg doses from it and will prob do the same in a few weeks if needed.
it has an expiry of Feb 2026 and is in the fridge. It was in the fridge for a few months before I used it too.
if it’s working the expiry date I can’t see any issue and it definitely worked.

I’m taking 2.5mg from a 5mg pen. I’m up to week 7 and it’s fine. I’ll get 10 or even 11 doses. The last 2 (or 3?) will be with insulin needle. I’m not sure it’s worth going up to a 7.5mg pen as there is a big price jump .

I’ve upped the strength of my pen at every opportunity. Just bought a 12.5 but currently taking 7.5 and no intention of increasing. The weekly cost is far far cheaper per injection. I exercise good sterile practice and see no issue with going beyond 30 days.

Did I read correctly you have an opened pen from last year, but you are still using it?
