Mounjaro to lose 10 kg

morning! I am thinking to start MJ to lose 10 kg due to a health condition which will greatly benefit from weight loss. I am worried about any side effects, but at the same time I have tried everything and due to menopause I find it extremely difficult to lose the weight even with regular strength training exercise and sort of healthy eating (I cook from scratch every meal, don’t have takeaways and my down fall are chocolate, crisps and wine).

if anyone has done this, it would be great to hear your experience, how long did it take to get to your goal weight and whether you continued or slowly stopped it.

Many thanks in advance!

Well, in Ireland you pay for GP services. You might not want to fork out €80 a visit for the prescription, if you're able to get it prescribed by a pharmacy. But you might want to be able to discuss the fact that you are taking the medication with your GP if you are attending him for other reasons, like cholesterol or diabetes. I'd hate it if my GP was like "well I didn't write the prescription so I can't give you any advice".

Sorry for late response. I got the prescription from a private GP which specializes on weight loss. I had a in person consultation where we talked about my health history and she gave me the pen there and showed me how to apply it. She also answered all the questions I had and next month I will have some bloods done.

They will write to my NHS GP to inform them. I brought with me recent blood tests results and she took my blood pressure, weighed and measured me.

Any private GP would be able to issue a private prescription.

Yes, it was a private GP

Re the cholesterol issue. During weight loss and particularly rapid weight loss your cholesterol will go up. It’s probably better to wait 6 mnths after weight loss to see if ch sterol has come down. I take statins which had brought my cholesterol down, they were prescribed at my request because their is recent evidence suggests they help post breast cancer as an adjuvant.
I had my annual MOT during weight loss and cholesterol had gone up. My GP wasn’t worried because they could tie it in with weight loss.

This is very useful to know, thanks!

I have done this. Lost almost exactly 10kg to take my BMI from nudging 25 down to 21. I feel bloody amazing. I’m small framed and I was fat with visceral belly fat at that size. I’d struggled to lose this weight for a couple of years (gained post a baby in my 40s) having always been slim. Perimenopause, sleep deprivation and life with two small children didn’t help. I craved sugar constantly and I couldn’t get a grip on it. I found a willing provider and I’ve done 12 weeks on MJ and about to finish. I clearly wasn’t obese but I could see how I could have ended up on that track with perimenopause/menopause on the horizon at 45.

I know that typically when a non obese person admits to taking MJ there's a pile on. So let me address that. The risks are not greater, they are the same. Prescribing criteria are driven by either NHS financial constraints or the current levels that clinical trials focused on. WLI pharma companies will likely explore how those drugs will prevent as well as treat obesity - that’s what I’ve heard anyway. I definitely had some metabolic issues that MJ has addressed. It’s been the perfect reset. There’s definitely an element of being pleased with how I look - I’m a senior professional and being slim and well put together is important to me. But this has been so much more about how I feel and how my body was struggling with factors that were driving weight gain.

I’d say that there are absolutely no downside at all except the cost! Limited side effects (bit of nausea occasionally, sleep disruption at time, and one or two cases of diarrhea) but the upside has been that all bloating and gut issues I’d had previously on a near daily basis have vanished, I sustained slow and steady weightloss, no sugar cravings. I have still had the odd treat, drink etc but primarily followed a mix of IF approach and high protein/low carb. Good habits overall that I’m confident I can maintain. Threads I’m on still show people on MJ not losing weight - you do have to work at it still but it’s two fold. 1) the hard work is easier because it addresses cravings and food noise, and 2) it ensures the weight loss actually happens! I stayed on 2.5mg as I didn’t want to experience any significant side effects and this was enough to lose 10kg.

Thanks so much for sharing your experience. Your results are great, congratulations! many of the things you said resonated with me and we have some things in common. I will ask the GP to keep me in the 2.5 dose, if works well during the first month.

I am very afraid to keep gaining weight and, like you said, I hope this works as a reset. I plan to do IF, prioritize protein and low carb: this is exactly what I did to lose a lot of weight several years ago, but since last year I have started regaining and I am now on a stage of gaining more and more. The hour of truth was when I came back from holiday and tried to wear my biggest jeans and I couldn’t do the button by a long way. I knew I had gained some weight but was shocked at how much… so now I hope MJ will help me put in practice good habits again without the cravings.

thanks again for sharing!

I'm considering starting Mounjaro for the same reason.
40, BMI of 29.5, and struggling to shift the baby weight 3 years later.
In my 30's I could shift any excess weight easily with a few weeks of diet & lifestyle changes but now I can go months on restricted calories and daily HIIT sessions and not see any changes on the scale, which then gets me down and I crack & comfort eat.

I want something to boost my willpower and muffle the food noise so I can just push through the weight loss barrier and see some progress.
Even just loosing 5kg would make a huge difference for me but I'm struggling to do it alone.
I'm costing up what it might be like to be on 2.5mg or 5mg for 6 months - 3 months to loose the weight and 3 months to maintain and then ease myself off. Even just the extra motivation of paying for the jabs might be the extra incentive I need to keep on my diet when I have a chocolate induced wobble.

Losing baby weight at 40 is so tough, at least it was for me, and the lack of sleep and extra stress does not help. I wish you all the best if you decide to take MJ. I started yesterday and so far so good, without any side effects 😊

The cost will definitely be a good incentive and even for a loss of 5 kg it would be worth it. That’s a lot of pressure to be taken away from my knees.

GPs should not be consulting on something they are not prescribing. There is a difference between ‘oh yes that could work well for you’ and ‘you should take it for 6 months’ hence me thinking the GP was prescribing.

I don’t agree with you either, my gp was very happy to discuss it with me, in fact she recommended it, snd said if she was allowed to prescribe it she would. Her view is I’m her patient so still has a responsibility to me. I’d have been appalled if she said sorry I’m not going to discuss it as I’m not prescribing it. I had high blood pressure and couldn’t lose the weight, and I said I was considering mounjaro, so as she prescribed for diabetes, she explained her experience of patients on the drugs, told me to buy from a reputable source, and managed my blood pressure meds as my bp dropped.

i think gp’s absolutely should be discussing it. Do you feel the same if someone takes any other drug the gp didn’t prescribe. They should wash their hands, heroin for example?

Hello! Just wanted to update that I have lost so far 5.5 kg with no side effects. I am very pleased with the progress and hope that it continues that way 🤞🏻
