Silly question about moving up the doses

So if I eat 1200 kcals on 2.5 with quite low suppression but manage it is there any benefit to going up the doses?
Like the higher ones may be easier as I don’t have to think but if I can eat 1200 on any dose is there any other advantages to the higher ones? Like it may come off slightly quicker?
Hope this makes sense?

I have about 1200 and on 2.5 - will be starting my 2nd month of 2.5 next week. There is no need to go up if you are getting the suppression etc

LaGioiosanotLeviosa · 05/09/2025 18:44

i wouldn’t really say my suppression is great. I am constantly being careful and logging etc etc and my weight loss is slower compared to others.
Just wondered if any else a bit like me and then once they hit a higher dose it was a bit more like the magic everyone else talks about?
Otherwise I could just keep slogging it out on a lower cheaper dose?

2.5mg has seen me through 6 and a half stone and still losing. I’m not interested in suppressing my appetite though, I just use the low dose to keep the food noise at bay and it also has many other benefits in terms of reducing inflammation and improving my focus. I eat 1500/1600 a day.

1200 calories is very low. If you can't eat more than that on 2.5 I definitely wouldn't be going up to 5.

You should be on the "minimum effective dose" and you still want to be able to eat regularly and get all the nutrition you need - especially if this might be for more than a few months.

Sadly not for me it isn’t. I’ve got pcos and much more than this causes me to either gain or do nothing. Many women with pcos have to eat about 300-500 less than normal women it’s really annoying! There’s a good calculator that can work out your tdee and bmr that accounts for pcos sufferers.

Just to also add, I could easily eat more than 1200 given half the chance even on MJ!

I don’t count calories but I know what I need to eat to lose weight - I stayed on 2.5 for 10 wks because I felt like it was easy to eat little enough to lose… I wouldn’t say that I didn’t ever want to eat more but it was easy enough to say no. I went up to 5 because I felt ‘food noise’ was creeping in. I was feeling snacky in the evenings and I was a bit scared that 2.5 wasn’t working anymore. With retrospect I think I could have stayed on it for even longer. I’m on 5 mg now - just started my 5th pen and I won’t go any higher - I’m 4 lbs from goal. So that’s a very long winded way of saying I think you’d be fine to stick at 2.5 for another pen but perhaps be open to going up if you start getting willpower fatigue. What’s been different for me with my MJ journey is I’m still here after 5 months plugging away - previously I would lose 1.5 stone - stop hating myself and slide back into bad habits without ever reaching goal - MJ makes the long haul a lot easier…

I’ve stuck at 2.5mg. I feel fuller for longer after each meal, and I have no food noise. I can still eat meals but generally eat less at eat meal, with no snacking. I haven’t logged but I’d guess I’m eating circa 1,400 cals with 120-150g protein (I weigh protein and keep a mental note during the day). This is working for me and I see no reason to increase the dose. If it’s hard to stick to your 1,200 goal then increase the dose.

I lost 5 stone on 2.5mg. If you are loosing weight even if you have to put lots of effort into your diet I'd stay on a low dose. Given how expensive it is now I'm sure most will want to say on the lower cheaper doses for as long as they work.
