MJ to Wegovy and BMI confusion

Ktkitkatk · 31/08/2025 08:48

Hi,

I've been on MJ a year and lost nearly 8 stone. I would like another stone off and then to maintain around that point, that will bring my BMI to 26.

Unfortunately I've been priced out of MJ and will have to move to Wegovy. I understand that there are tighter restrictions around Wegovy and some prescribers won't prescribe below BMI of 27.

I've messaged Asda Online Doctor to ask the question and they just keep copying and pasting switching info thats already on the website and not answering my question.

Does anyone know a prescriber that will continue to prescribe Wegovy below a BMI of 27 and support maintenance, that is not too expensive?

Thanks

Oushk are supporting their customers who are already maintaining on Mounjaro who wish to switch to Wegovy, so I expect others will too, possibly Pharmulous, Dr Swift are commonly mentioned as maintenance friendly. Those three are probably the ones I would try as a new customer.

If you have your proof of a previously eligible BMI and prescribing history it should be ok.

Thank you, I'll take a look at those. My BMI is currently 28 and I have 3 weeks of my 12.5mg pen left.
From what I've read Asda will not continue prescribing Wegovy under BMI 27 so I think I do need to find a new supplier that will prescribe to me. I really wish I could stay on MJ but I just can't justify the cost unfortunately.

I switched to juniper whilst on mj and below mmi 30 and am switching to wegovy when my pen runs out. They do maintenance and are really open to discussion and planning with you. They are not the cheapest, but they feel like value for money in terms of giving a shit and working with you as opposed to just lobbing pens at you.

Thank you, I have a friend on Juniper that has said good things. I will take a look at them among others, the communication and customer support of most places is terrible so it is a big plus that they seem pretty switched on.

Why would they stop at 27, when that isn’t a healthy BMI? I’m currently with Asda for Mounjaro and was thinking of switching to wegovy, but I have a current BMI of 26.

FoxRedPuppy · 31/08/2025 13:02

27 (with other health conditions) is the cut off for first prescribing both Mounjaro and wegovy. But Asda have definitely sent me stuff saying I could switch if I wanted to.

I’ve actually read stuff on Asda website about maintaining, so don’t think they are against that as a practice.

A Guardian investigation revealed that some online pharmacies immediately stopped prescribing Ozempic (a cousin of Wegovy) when individuals' BMIs fell below 27.Two pharmacies Click2Pharmacy and Pharmacy2U refused prescriptions, as did high-street chains Lloyds and Superdrug, all citing BMI rules.

Let's hope so, I don't think the guidance is very clear for what BMI they will stop prescribing it and reading how strict the legislation is around Wegovy compared to MJ it worries me. I have emailed a few pharmacies to ask the question.

My BMI is 30 and CheqUp have just let me buy a 2.4mg Wegovy pen for £130.

I've got a £50 discount if you PM me.

Time4changeagain · 31/08/2025 14:27

Pharmacy2u prescribed to me 2 weeks ago and my BMI is 22. I sent proof of previous prescription & myself etc.

Ozempic is for diabetes though, could that be why?

How is the legislation stricter around Wegovy?

FoxRedPuppy · 31/08/2025 14:50

Do you have a link to the article. All I can find is about Wegovy being prescribed to new patients with a cut off of 27. Not people who started with a BMI over 30 and are now under.

Time4changeagain · 31/08/2025 15:58

@Ktkitkatk No it was Mounjaro. They have a chart if you are considering switching though

This article is about inappropriate prescribing and mentions the same pharmacies as you have

https://www.theguardian.com/society/2023/may/10/online-uk-pharmacies-prescribing-weight-loss-jabs-to-people-with-healthy-bmi-investigation

If the article was from 2023, the world and scripting and dispensing practice has moved on. I would be staggered if anyone was stoped from switching or maintaining with a bmi over 22. It's prescribed to those who have been able to demonstrate obesity and there is clinical rationale to maintain that non obese state within a healthy bmi.
