Ok, so I've been thinking about starting injections for 4 months, and I finally got round to ordering from Asda my first dose of Mounjaro last week. I totally missed all the price hike stuff and now have had an email saying my price for my first dose is locked in, but delayed, and then obvs after that it will be too expensive for me to continue. I had kinda been crossing my fingers that the price hike wouldn't be too bad, but it is.

Should I try to switch to Wegovy instead? From when I did my initial research I chose Mounjaro because of the better effects, but I don't want to start something, then have to wait a month to clear it from my system, to start something new.

Anyone in Wegovy found it better than Mounjaro? My delay in deciding to do it is because I am super anxious about the gastro side effects and I've heard it's worse with wegovy - is that true?

Is there any chance at all the prices are going to come back down, or is this just it now?

Asda is one of the most expensive pharmacies. Have a look at the monj website for the best prices

Thank you. Unfortunately even the lowest prices are still to much for me for 5mg plus.

Is Juniper wegovy? They seem to have good deals - does anyone use them?

If you can’t cancel, you may as well give it a go. Do you have much to lose (weight wise, not figuratively)? You don’t necessarily have to go up through all the doses one month after another. If the lower doses work then you can stay on them for as long as you like.

I would look at other places for next month if you can't cancel this order from Asda. Also have faith in the lower doses, there's plenty who haven't gone above 5. I personally haven't gone above 2.5 and have lost 3.5 stone.

Good luck

Rainingharder · 28/08/2025 22:26

Oh that is good to know. I have 5 stone to lose, but it's good to know I could do that on a lower dose, I guess it just takes longer? How long has that taken you @Yellowsubmarine55 ?

There was a story today saying they will backtrack on the price hikes, so it will go up, but not by as much….apparantly.

ShrankLastWinter · 28/08/2025 22:58

No, there’s no reason it should take you longer on lower doses. If the lower doses work for you, you can stay on them and increase slowly if necessary, as your body adapts to the gastric effects and you feel hungrier. I lost nearly 5 stone in 8 months, most of it in 6 months, going up gradually to 7.5. I was lucky enough to be quite sensitive to the drug. I also ate very carefully and worked out frequently to maximize the effects. Higher doses would just have made me ill. People who are less sensitive to it may need to go up faster to higher doses to get the same effects. Some people get bad side effects at even lower levels, and have to give up or halve even the lowest dose until their bodies get used to it. You don’t know until you try. But there’s quite a span of responses to the drug.

Try to cancel your order

I made my first order with Zava last week Thursday, but then cancelled it on Tuesday when it seemed that weren't processing my order. I ordered 2.5mg from Ashcroft Pharmacy - one of the cheapest for 2.5mg on the click.compare list at £120. Everything else is out of stock - £145 for 5mg, £155 for 7.5mg, £165 for 10mg

On their website they say "We will keep our current pricing for as long as possible before making any adjustments."

How much are the price hikes op?

spanieleyes · 29/08/2025 06:05

I’ve never gone above 5mg and have lost 6 and a half stone since January.

dizzyupthegirl86 · 29/08/2025 08:49

I understand it’s a difficult decision to make. With five stone to lose, it’s likely to be a significant commitment time wise.
my feelings are generally if you can’t afford the higher doses then don’t start it, because it’d be rubbish to get on really well with it and then be basically priced out once the 2.5mg starts to lose effectiveness.

In this specific situation, assuming you can’t cancel, I’d probably start it anyway and see how you find it. In an ideal world you’ll respond well to 2.5mg and can stay on it for a while, and the pricing may well settle down a bit! But you’ve then got the option to move to Wegovy as a backup option as well. I think at the starter doses, the move is much easier to handle than someone at the highest dose of mounjaro!

The issue is everyone is different. Some people don't need to go above a 5 mg dose, others do. I have definitely read posts from people wishing that they had increased doses earlier as well.

Yes, it’s so interesting how everyone reacts differently! I’m a ‘worst case scenario’ type and the idea of potentially being on the highest dose in six months could be the reality for some.
would I have started it if the prices had been what they look like they’ll be from September? Almost certainly not. But I’m really glad I did. I’ve lost 30lbs in 14 weeks, on the lowest dose and I genuinely feel like it’s changed my life already. But if the lowest dose was at the top end of my affordability, I think I’d be looking at wegovy.
