Or was it a plan to get people to bulk buy stocks?

And clear old stock before they bring
nI the new style pens with no bonus dose

That has nothing to do with the patent.

They are more ambitious to create it and patent the miracle weight loss jab.

I have no idea what this comment is supposed to mean.

Don't worry about it if you don't understand. It's not my job to teach you. I met a woman who is studying an MBA. Her opinion is we have shot ourselves in the foot when it comes to business and progress.

So my chemist in Northern Ireland published their prices last Monday, and their 15mg pens are going to cost £360. Now I see this morning that the rebate will be £84 for the top doses. So does that mean the price will be £276 or was the £84 baked in already? I’m hoping that it wasn’t because I know the wholesale price of 15mg was meant to be £330 and a mark up of £114 per pen sounds like an awful lot!

So the maximum rebate doesn’t need to be passed on to the patient and it’s at the discretion of the pharmacy but I would think the £360 may include this rebate
but the only way to know for sure is
to ask them.

Do keep in mind they are a business and need to make their money too.

I do understand it’s a business but a 25% mark up on an already very expensive prescription medication not covered by insurance seems…gouging. They had to close their books to new customers who wanted postage last June, as they couldn’t cope with the volume of business. They must have made a fortune selling this already!

I thought pharmacies would only get the rebate if they passed it on in full to the customers? It’s no good for EL of pharmacies are taking a cut of the rebate - EL want to keep increasing their customer base, not increase the number of pharmacies selling it!

They also may not be eligible for the full rebate as Eli Lilly was working on commercial deals with pharmacies. So to get a clear idea of the mark up you would need to know their wholesale cost. How much were they charging before the price rise? Watching the interview with ITV news and the reports from Sky it was up to £80 rebate on the biggest dose.

Most pharmacies only released their prices within the last few days as it became clear what deal they had managed to
achieve so it might mean the cost comes down.

The mark ups do seem substantial

Because they are selling a huge amount more of their product - much of which will expire before it’s even used. But by then they have the money.

Why would you think it will expire before it’s used? Most pens have 12+ months on them, often longer.
Sorry, didn’t realise this was an old thread.

caffelattetogo · 07/09/2025 18:14

Do you not have to use them within 30 days of arrival as they have been out of the fridge? Maybe I imagined that bit!

They do have an expiry date on them. Iq Doctor said something similar because the bags was melting on the way to the customers. If the bag has melted then yes use within 30 days it it arrives and the bag is solid then you can use before the expiry date. People have bulk buyed Mounjaro injections.

caffelattetogo · 07/09/2025 23:37

Yes, given they were bought in summer I’d worry his warm they’d been in transit.

People have been buying MJ all summer without issue.

I’ve just ordered another pen from them. Their website says their packaging is designed to stay cold for 48 hours and can usually be used within the manufacture’s guidelines if a delay in delivery of less than 48 hrs.

Ive had a couple of deliveries where the ice packs were melted by the time I unpacked them, but they still felt cool. I’ve kept the packs to use for other things (fab for picnics or transporting food from supermarkets in hot weather), and they never feel warm, even when stored in a normal room. So I wouldn’t worry.

HappyWineDay · 09/09/2025 13:41

There's actually a tool on the Lilly website for pharmacists to check whether a pen that has had a period outside a fridge can be returned and still issued to a patient as if nothing has happened. I tried this myself and found that even if a pen has been outside a fridge and kept at 25 degC for three days, it is still ok for the pharmacist to put it back and issue as normal.
So just because a pen may have warmed up for a short period in transit, there's no reason to say the 30-day use by period has started as soon as you receive it. That clock still doesn't start ticking until the point the pen is first used.

They did have that message on their site. It was during the madness last month. With another message saying orders will take longer to process than usual. I've used them since May and I have never had any issues apart from the madness.

Gingercar · 09/09/2025 21:13

I ordered a pen from them the day before the announcement of prices going up, and they were fast. I ordered another Sunday night and it arrived this morning. Hopefully they’ve got over the craziness. Although their prices aren’t cheap anymore!
