I let my insurer know I was using monjauro through an online registered pharmacy and my Dr was aware. They said as my Dr didn't prescribe it I wouldn't be covered for any of my other pre existing conditions so making my cover non existent really. So spoke with another company who said As it wasn't for obesity as I wasn't obese it was classed as cosmetic reasons so didn't have to declare. But I would still be covered for other problems. But be warned you are not covered if you are ill through the injections. Cost me a fair bit to get this insurance but it's peace of mind. He did admit this was coming up a lot and something needs to be done. Writing this following the lady that hurt her leg but insurance wouldn't pay out cause she was on injections. Cost her £20000.

I don't think this is all insurers. I let my insurance know, they had no issue with it at all, just made a note of it and no change to the cost. No change in the cover either.

I don't understand the comment about the WLI not being for obesity? Surely that's why you were prescribed them?

Thebigonesgetaway · 27/08/2025 09:03

I also let my insurer know, the post office, they were fine with it but I had to list it as obesity as they don’t have the section to list the drug yet, lady said they get lots of calls about it. I’m a healthy bmi , which I also explained it was for maintenance, there was no issue.

Campingqueens · 27/08/2025 09:13

I was never classed obese my BMI was just enough to get me accepted. I only had 2 and a half stone to lose . Now I am maintaining. I am now a healthy BMI and prediabetes is gone. Maybe I should try other insurers as I would really like the monjauro covered. Thanks for your replies

When you apply to an online pharmacy you just have to meet their BMI limit. Which was 30 this isn't necessarily obese.

A BMI of 30 is obese, that's where the obese classification starts.

Campingqueens · 27/08/2025 09:39

Thankyou for your replies. I have spoken with the post office who confirm there is a category monjauro now. I will take a look . XX

It’s definitely obese.

FoxRedPuppy · 27/08/2025 09:46

A BMI of 30 and above is classed as obese.

But thanks you have reminded me I need to tell my insurer.

HereIGoOnceMore · 27/08/2025 10:12

As PP says it varies between companies Holiday Extras were happy to note it for me (pre-existing policy) but said it didn’t needed to be added on at extra cost. Their stance was that if I was choosing to take it as oposed to being advised to (as in required to) by a Dr, it counted as cosmetic.

IsItSnowing · 27/08/2025 10:48

Aviva were fine when I rang them. I’m fully covered and it is added to my file.

Campingqueens · 27/08/2025 11:54

So turns out The post office will cover monjauro but at a premium cost. I went back to my original insurer turns out I was given wrong info. Although I will not be covered for using monjauro I will be covered for my other pre existing conditions.

It seems we're only covered if prescribed by our own GPs .

OP posts:
SilenceInside · 27/08/2025 12:03

That's not true for everyone. As I said, my insurer had no issues with it. Hardly anyone is prescribed WLI by their GPs, so that would seem an unlikely requirement in order to be insured.

Blueyshift · 27/08/2025 12:08

Why was the lady not covered for her leg? I have developed gallstones since being on it. Doc said they are small so no further action. However my insurance wanted to charge a lot so I didn't go for it. Since doc said its fine. They assured me I would still be coveRed for broken leg , suit case etc. Just not a gall bladder attack.

Campingqueens · 27/08/2025 12:25

Blueyshift. Apologies I was misinformed. It wasn't her leg. She had a bowel ruption.

Ok that makes sense.

You should be careful with that because gallstones are unpredictable. Mine were dormant for years (didn't even know I had them) until I got a massive infection and ended up in hospital for 2 days to get it under control. Came out of nowhere. So if you're travelling somewhere with expensive healthcare you really need them covered.

My insurance company were fine with a GP or an in person pharmacist from your local pharmacy prescribing but not on line.

The whole of this area needs to be firmed up due to the number of people on WLIs.
