Anyone at target weight and wanting to switch to wegovy for maintenance?

I've been on mounjaro for 7 months and have reached my target (well 2lb off) from 14st 9lb to 9st 11lb. I'm currently on 10mg.

Given the situation with mounjaro I will be priced out of continuing on anything other than 2.5mg (this might be enough for maintenance i truly dont know)

Will it be possible to switch to wegovy for maintenance given I'm very much a healthy weight now?

Yea I think so, I have switched products but stayed with the same provider to do just that. I’m hoping to get the cheapest solution to tide me over until the tables are available at a cheaper cost at the start of next year.

Littlebitpsycho · 24/08/2025 17:19

@TinyKittenPawthat's good to know. Ive always switched providers previously to take advantage of the cheapest prices/discounts, but my last 2 orders were from medicine market place, so do you think its best to ask them first what's best?

I guess you could look at the cost of both, I think they might suggest you scaling down slowly if you stay on MJ so depending on the strength you are on now and the cost of scaling down month by month to get to 2.5 - if this is viable then could be better than a sudden drop. If you aren’t in a position to cover the cost of anything beyond 2.5 then you could switch to Weygovy at the strength you are on now and slowly move down until you get to a point where maintenance is right?

I’m about 3 months behind you I think, which is when I will get to my target weight then look for the cheapest place to order to maintain which seems like the tablets they are looking to release soon - I just need the cheapest solution to get me through the next 3 months before decreasing the dose.

Thebigonesgetaway · 24/08/2025 18:05

Unfortunately el Lilly have already said the tablets will be priced the same as the injections as they do pricing on value not cost.

however next summer there is likely to be generic versions of wegovy available, but will be with a different delivery system ie prob vial. The active ingredient comes out of patent next year.

there are 8 more drugs in testing, all better than mounjaro, so when they come to market, then the price of mounjaro will drop. As clearly they won’t price above mounjaro as no one could afford it.

Yeah this is my dilemma, as I am also almost at goal. Voy seem to be happy for me to switch to wegovy. But I am also wondering what one of the maintenance friendly pharmacies eg Oushk or pharmulous would say about this. I do think I’d prefer to have been on wegovy from the start in some ways as it’s a danish company rather than a US one and therefore subject to Trump….

What's going to be available at a cheaper cost next year?

TinyKittenPaw · 24/08/2025 18:54

@Perimenoanti i had read that the tablet form of MJ was going to be cheaper as easier and quicker to produce and store but as per comments above I think this has now changed. I’ll see if I can link to an article for the name of the tablets in testing, but as @Littlebitpsycho has mentioned there are a load of others in testing too and when they come to market costs might reduce all round.

TinyKittenPaw · 24/08/2025 18:59

Here’s one article about it from the bbc:

seems the tablets are less effective but that’s less of a concern perhaps who are seeking to maintain not actively loose weight. Seems the makers of Weygovy have already submitted approval in the US so might be ready sooner which may make switching to W an even better option in readiness for the pill alternative- if indeed these are cheaper than injections.

Similar situation to you with almost identical numbers. I never even considered this as an option tbh.

Maaate · 24/08/2025 19:06

I'm considering it - I have just started a new MJ pen and have my next on order so I will see what the situation is at the end of September and decide then

MummytoE · 24/08/2025 19:08

I'm at target now and was considering getting a 15 pen and micro dosing.

TinyKittenPaw · 25/08/2025 09:02

I signed up with Swift Dr I’m yet to order but Weygovy pens are around £99 up to 1mg and you can order more than 1 pen at a time. There are comparison charts on line that show the comparable dosage between MJ and Weygovy.

Sofia25 · 25/08/2025 09:32

There is a comparison chart on igovy.co.uk, have a look and take your pick, i went with Cuva Health as found their approval times to be very quick,

Using a high dose pen to deliver lower doses over an extended period can be a very cost effective option for those personally prepared to accept any risks associated with going over the recommended 30 day usage period.

Yeah well that was the plan, but my provider didn't have any stock available of a 10, 12.5 or 15. So I panicked and ordered a 5. I'm hoping to come off it soon anyway. I weighed this morning and are now under my goal( although still a healthy weight). It's just not financial sustainable anymore for me but I'm glad I found it when I did.

Congratulations on achieving your goal! I’m sure the time on mj will have set you on the course of healthy eating, so that you maintain in the long term.
