Anyone Developed Food Intolerances While on MJ

Been on MJ for almost 7 weeks now and have had bloating after breakfast since week 2. Usually have my favourite breakfast which is full fat Greek yoghurt, walnuts and berries. Started to add a flaxseed mix when in went on MJ, so initially thought it was that causing the problem as only difference. Tried Boots wind ease tablets, no help.

Pharmacist thought it could be related to dairy as hard to digest. Eliminated yoghurt for a couple of days, things much better. Tried lactase tablets before eating a smaller portion of yogurt. All good for a week, feeling positive and ordered 5mg pen. Bloating back today with a vengeance. Going to try a few days off yoghurt and change to lacto free or non dairy.

Just wondering if anyone else had this, and also ideas for alternative high protein breakfasts.

Other than that, not had any side effects so maybe I should consider myself lucky. I felt so uncomfortable was thinking on stopping after second pen. I don’t have a lot of weight to lose but my blood sugar has been creeping up again and moved into pre-diabetes range again. Also have unstable blood pressure which has really improved.

Haven’t noticed at all, but more gas to the intended slower digestion.

You could try eggs or a more continental type breakfast with cold meat, cheese and berries?

Especially in the first months of taking it, I couldn’t eat anything fatty. Full fat Greek yogurt in any quantity would have made me feel grim. Try low fat yogurt or quark?

Now after 8 months I can eat some cheese or an ice cream, but I couldn’t for a long time.

One of the ways the drug works is slowing gastric emptying, especially if you eat protein or even a small amount of fat. One the plus side, this means that adding just a small spoonful of full fat yog or a couple of walnuts to a meal makes it very filling.

Thanks both. I guess it’s trial and error! Skipped the yoghurt today and had chicken. Still got mild bloating. I had forgotten I’d added a digestive enzyme late last week, so going to stop that too. I’ve got some lactose free Greek yoghurt to try tomorrow. If no luck with that will try zero. I wanted to stick to full if possible to keep protein intake up.

I’ve been fine with eggs so far so might have that on days I’m at home.

It’s frustrating, but it’s definitely reducing my appetite. I’ve seen someone on instagram who posts what she eats in a day, and her posts are always meals out and treats from m&s. I couldn’t face it.

The people who do well and maintain are the ones that are eating real foods and changing what they eat instead of eating smaller portions of crap, so you are definitely better off!

as long as you buy proper Greek yoghurt instead of Greek style the fat content shouldn’t impact the protein content.

is the bloating uncomfortable?

MsDastardley · 25/08/2025 17:41

Thanks @FurForksSake that’s useful to know. The bloating is uncomfortable. Nothing seems to help at time but it does pass after a couple of hours. Not had sulphur burps etc, so thankful for that 😀

I think then it’s just going to be one of those annoying side effects that will pass with time. The sulphur burps were the worst! I have been on for a year now and don’t have any side effects at all as my body is now so used to it.

definitely experiment with different proteins and the digestive enzymes are actually a good thing but take quite some time to work I think? Dietician I was seeing said I needed to take them for 90 days before they’d say they were or weren’t helping. Also dry and reduce caffeine potentially?
