Thanks for posting the link. I think this thread is going to get very busy over the next month.

I think the prices are going to keep being revised by suppliers too based on what others are charging and how many orders they are getting. For instance there is currently over £100 difference between the cheapest and most expensive 7.5mg pens. I expect that difference will narrow in the coming weeks.

WeAllHaveWings · 24/08/2025 09:35

@Choux i expect there will be changes for a while. I wonder if those that have posted prices have completed their negotiations with Eli Lilly, including the rebate scheme.

And there is the extra layer of discount codes to add.

Notice new subscription models coming in, possibly, partly, to offset cost of the resources new/changing customers take up with the stricter GPhC rules.

Yes I was also just reading the old Monj Maintenance page as I am sub 25 BMI now. I think there may be more specialisation of services from suppliers eg fewer suppliers wanting to prescribe to people under 25 and those that do charging a bit more for pens as they need to do more checks to keep on the right side of GPhC rules.

From a pharmacy’s perspective the ideal customer is someone with a BMI of 35 plus who you can supply for months before you need to start querying if they are now misusing the drug. Now I am at a healthy BMI prescribers need to start understanding more what I am doing and that takes time and costs them money.

WeAllHaveWings · 24/08/2025 10:03

Agree @Choux the Eli Lilly price hike is an opportunity for the pharmacies to also change their pricing models to account for those additional costs.

Taking Oushk just as an example (while not making the thread about them), their maintenance customers had a good deal 15% of and free P&P (worth another £6.99 off). They have hinted a few times they’ll be removing the free P&P and more recently that maintenance customers might only have an extra £5 off rather than a %. Think they realised some time ago maintenance was costing them too much, especially after GPhC inspection, but didn’t know how to resolve it without upset. This gives them that opportunity and can “blame” Eli Lilly.

I expect many pharmacies have those thoughts.

Thanks for posting this. I too think it's very interesting and yes there is quite a disparity in pricing which comes into even more focus with the increased prices.

It's interesting that places like Medicine Marketplace are cheaper at the higher strength pens, but then not necessarily that competitive say for me at the lower levels where I can get them for less from my local pharmacy that is just a walk in, quick chat and update, be weighed and off I go with my new pen.

But can MM actually fulfil all the potential new orders they could be getting with their pricing?

I think many people will be balancing up and considering their options based on where they are with their weight ... Pricing, availability and ease of ordering, prescribers who offer maintenance, reliability etc etc.

Gone are the days of endlessly swapping with discount codes and rebates so actual real time pricing is a key factor now together with reliability and ease of ordering.

Trinck · 24/08/2025 10:43

I think they'll be a lot of discount codes flying around in September, with pharmacies scrabbling to attract and keep customers.

FoxRedPuppy · 24/08/2025 11:03

I think some will keep their prices. Not everyone goes for the cheapest. I stayed with Asda, after moving once, because I like being able to collect in person. I also can’t really be arsed constantly swapping around. I’ll pay more for the convenience

I do agree with you here.

But I think if there is a big difference at the highest doses of 12.5 and 15mg. I could easily be persuaded to shop around at say £60 or so price difference per pen. Having said that I don't really want to increase beyond 10mg if at all possible.

Then I will just stick with my local pharmacy for ease.

WeAllHaveWings · 24/08/2025 12:09

What discounts they will be giving will also be interesting @Trinck as it will also be difficult for the pharmacies to judge how their new pricing structure has been received by their regular customers.

So many customers will have been able to stock pile, potentially from more than one provider, and not need to order for 2-3 months perhaps taking them to Black Friday deals, Christmas and January periods where, if anything like last year, there are extra discounts/people ordering in advance to take advantage of codes or avoid delivery delays etc.

I have finally decided to use WLI after trying to lose weight by dieting/fasting methods in order to have knee replacement surgery later this year. I have lost some weight and am no longer eating rubbish, have cut out alcohol and not snacking between meals. I was reluctant before to use the injections but having seen my sister and daughter use them successfully, I began to consider them.

Obviously the expected price increases for Mounjaro ( the one I was considering) are concerning but I am fortunate to be able to afford them from my retirement savings. I still have lots of questions and worries though I wondered if anyone here could help me.

I think I’d prefer to use a supplier linked to a “real” company such as Morrisons as, rightly or wrongly, I think I trust them more.

I am very overweight, 5 ft 6 tall, weigh around 18st so I don’t anticipate having any problems getting them.

I have a number of medical conditions requiring me to take daily medication which concerns me - high blood pressure so on bp med plus a diuretic, slightly raised cholesterol so on statins prescribed after a TIA and strong pain relief for osteoarthritis - tramadol and paracetamol up to 8 each a day. I assume that all these will be declared when I sign up?

I am worried about possible side effects both minor short term ones like nausea, constipation but also paranoid about more serious ones like pancreatitis etc that I’ve read about.

Im not sure how I’ll go about injecting myself, I’m such a wuss! Are the pens like EpiPens that you just push against the skin or are they like the ones used by nurses to give injections or take blood?

I cannot exercise, even walking is very painful, so I’m concerned about having excess flabby skin!

Having written these thought down, I’m now going off the idea which I know is silly, please help reassure me that I should go ahead. I’m wondering about trying to get an appointment to speak to my gp.

WeAllHaveWings · 24/08/2025 13:00

@Ihateslugs you might be best starting your own thread with all your questions and you will get more answers.

All the pharmacies on the monj site are GPhC registered safe pharmacies and "real" companies, many who will have more experience in WLI than Morrisons (who partners with Phlo Clinic - also on the monj list - to provide this medication/service).

Wait, what? Oushk do free P&P?!! I’ve always had to pay £6.99 for it. 🤬

Kipperandarthur · 24/08/2025 13:11

@Ihateslugs
In your position I would use an in person face to face pharmacy that prescribes WLI.

Then you actually discuss in person your queries, your medication, you give access to you GP medical notes etc. It's more of a personal experience and you will then see the pharmacist each month as you progress.

Check whether your local pharmacy offers WLIs as many do. They will also show you in person how to use the pen. No the pen is not like an injection that a nurse gives you at your local GP.

I much prefer visiting my local pharmacist as it is far, far more personal. Easy to discuss issues with, no waiting around for a correctly cooled pen to arrive by courier etc.

Only their maintenance customers had 15% off and the free P&P, I believe they were given maintenance codes that gave them this. but that is likely stopping (just as I get closer to maintenance 👎)
