I’m considering WLI for the first time. Would anyone mind sharing how they got off the starting block please? Did you need to seek a GP appointment and do you have to use the shots under medical supervision? Or do people do this directly through an online pharmacy service?

Thanks in advance.

I get mine from an online pharmacy (Asda).
You complete a medical questionnaire, send some photos and then, once approved, can either have it delivered to your home or collect it from a pharmacy in store.
Bear in mind though that after the recent announcement over price increases, many places are out of stock of Mounjaro and it is about to become much more expensive.

To go through GP you need a BMI of over 40 and 4 out 5 other conditions (high blood pressure, heart disease, diabetes etc).

Most people go online. I also use Asda. You fill in the form with the pictures and they assess and prescribe. They also have lots of info on their website about the drugs and process.

As per pp via online pharmacy (MedExpress in my case). What I have found helpful though is that I’d had a load of blood tests done about a month before I started for my 40 plus health check thing which has allowed me to supplement things I was already borderline low on now I’m eating less.
I also track my weight, calories, exercise and menstrual cycles/symptoms alongside my weekly jab doses and times. I’ve had no side effects at all yet (week 7, 9kg down) but having the data should help if I do have any weird symptoms

The only reason to speak to your GP would be if you meet the additional requirements the NHS has implemented in order to qualify through them for Mounjaro. That is a BMI over 40 plus 4 out of 5 specific weight related health conditions. Or to be referred to the Tier 3 specialist weight management service, which in some areas offers Wegovy, but often it's bariatric surgery instead.

Otherwise, you are looking at a private prescription, either through an online pharmacy or a bricks and mortar pharmacy.

The injection is self-injected, you don't need supervision. If you read the instructions it's clear what to do, and nearly everyone can manage to do it correctly.

I filled out an online form, and sent off photos, using Asda initially. I've used several other pharmacies since then. Often these days you need to do a video call for weight verification before you are approved.

I agree it is worth understanding about the issues with Mounjaro regarding the news about a large price hike from 1st Sept, and the resulting shortage in stock as people rush to order their medication before that price rise.

Thanks so much everyone. I wouldn’t qualify. Is NHS so it’s useful to know how people went about this. I have a lot of research to do before making a final decision - trust me to get to this place just ahead of the massive price hike!
