Staying on 2.5mg Mounjaro in 2nd month

Followthesunshine · 23/08/2025 19:14

For those that stayed on 2.5mg in the 2nd month did the suppression continue or did it wear off during month 2?

I'm due to take my 3rd injection tomorrow and am due to order my next pen. I'm unsure whether to stay on 2.5mg or move up to 5mg. I've had good suppression, have lost 9lb in 2 weeks but I do get quite a bit of nausea in the first 2-3 days after the injection. I'm thinking about staying on 2.5mg because it works so far but I'm worried it could wear off before month 3.

I stayed on 2.5mg for the first 2 months, I was having good suppression and lost a stone in the first month. But by week 3-4 I found myself starting to feel very slightly hungry and moved to 5mg. I didn’t go higher than that really, I did 5mg for 2 months then tried 7.5mg but it really didn’t agree with me so took a lower dose from that pen then back down to 5mg. In all I lost 4 stone (15 to 11) in the space of about 6-7m and have maintained with 2.5mg since Easter.

Lazygardener · 23/08/2025 19:27

I stayed on it for 3 months with adequate suppression, then went up to 5mg and stayed on that for 4 Months. Now on 7.5 mg for third month and not likely to go any higher unless it completely stops working (cost considerations).

LikeStrawberriesAndCream · 23/08/2025 19:52

I stayed on 2.5mg for the first 2 months because the suppression was so good at first I could barely eat! - but it did wear off in the second month and I regretted not moving up to 5mg.
I've gone up every month since then.

Followthesunshine · 23/08/2025 20:31

Thanks everyone. Going to see how I am after my 3rd injection tomorrow and if still feeling not hungry by Tuesday will stick with 2.5mg for month 2

I'm on my second month at 2.5 and ordered a third month's supply of it, mostly because I'm on holiday next week and I don't want to go up immediately when I get back. I've found the suppression Okish. I still enjoy food and alcohol and have had a couple of delicious meals out- I've not eaten much else on those days. I want to lose weight slowly in the hope it will be more sustainable. . There is still occasional hunger pangs and I've never felt repelled by any type of food, but it is easier to forego it.

dizzyupthegirl86 · 23/08/2025 20:42

I’ll be starting my fourth pen tomorrow and am still on 2.5mg! If you’re feeling sick for the first few days on 2.5mg then I don’t think moving up is a good idea. Your body is probably still getting used to the medication so hopefully it’ll even out for you on the second pen.

i find that if I’m eating well, I get decent suppression. If I miss meals then I tend to end up hungry and snacky later on in the day.

Elliebird2 · 23/08/2025 20:46

Following with interest as I’m planning to do the same.

dizzyupthegirl86 · 23/08/2025 20:49

If suppression wanes on 2.5mg and you’re reluctant to move up to 5mg, try jabbing in a different site first to see if that does anything. Stomach worked fine for me for a bit but now I get no suppression there, but arm works great for me.

ThreeColouredFeather · 23/08/2025 20:50

Im on my 4th pen of 2.5g and can’t imagine moving up to 5 for the next. I had terrible side effects when I started (not D or V but awful nausea and could not face a bite of food), but this has levelled off for the most part. I do get hungry when it’s mealtimes but I see this as a good thing, as I am still able to enjoy my food (which is an important pleasure in life). However it still gives enough suppression to enable me to make excellent choices and not binge (which was the biggest issue). Last night I had a chocolate mini roll and enjoyed it, but left it at that. Pre-MJ I could have inhaled the whole pack without it touching the sides.

Haribosweets · 23/08/2025 21:08

I am in exactly the same boat! I am due to take my 3rd this Wednesday and re-order. I am not sure what to do either. Today I have been very hungry all day. First time feeling hunger since I started. I don't want to get 2.5 and have to wait another month with hunger / food noise before I go to 5! Luckily I have had no side effects on 2.5

JustPinkFinch · 23/08/2025 21:12

I did 2.5mg x 8, then 3.33mg x 3 (from a 5mg pen), and now back down to 2.5mg as 3.3mg didn't agree with me.

My 5mg pen will last a lot longer than 30 days as I am not taking full doses from it, and I may end up tossing it with fluid still inside, but I do have the flexibility to increase my dose if needed.

I've just ordered another 5mg but will stick to 30 clicks for now.

This is exactly how I feel. Very happy with how I am feeling on 2.5mg, I have a 5mg in the fridge but may end up taking smaller doses from it.

OP, this is also a great suggestion - if you commit to a second 2.5mg pen and find it’s not having the same effect, you can use the extra in the pen to get a bit slightly higher doses

PutThe · 23/08/2025 21:57

I did 2.5 for 4 months before pretty much plateauing, and it was great. No side effects, made things easy.

It was still having some suppression even by that point, but I'd got stuck at BMI 27ish so still wanted to lose a bit more. Didn't want to go straight to 5 though, as I'm quite cautious, so currently on 3.75 and losing again.

Could you let me know how you do that please? I've read about getting a final 5th dose but is there a way of slightly increasing above 2.5mg on doses before then?

You basically split the fifth dose over the four. Or however many you have left.

so there’s the equivalent of five 2.5mg doses in the pen - 12.5mg total (there’s a little more but I personally don’t count on this as I always prime the pen!). You could split that into four doses of 3.1mg, if you end up with a full pen of 2.5mg and feel like you need a higher strength.

to do this you’d withdraw 0.75ml of liquid (0.6ml of liquid in any pen is the equivalent of one dose). The easiest way is with a needle and syringe. Or you could in theory inject one full dose the normal way and then change the needle and inject the rest counting the clicks but you’d still need to use a syringe on your last dose anyway.

and you can do this if you’ve used some of the pen already and want to go a bit higher, you’d just split the extra dose over less weeks if that makes sense (so you could go 2.5, 2.5, 3.75, 3.75)

although once you’ve bought a pen you are sort of committed to it, knowing you can play around with it a bit and up the dose is quite comforting mentally when you have to make a decision - three weeks into my first one felt way too soon to decide!

lovealongbath · 24/08/2025 07:25

I am not qualified to give medical advice so this is my experience….

I stayed on 2.5 for 10 weeks and lost 1 stone 5 lbs . I am on week 40 and still have not taken 5mg as I have titrated slowly, currently taking 4.3mg. I have lost 3 stone 12lbs / 24kg

It’s not a race, it’s not a competition. Listen to your body!

Thank you that's really helpful to know I have that option

I have stayed on 2.5mg for 10 months. I hated the suppression it gave me at the start though, it isn’t something I have been chasing. I’m happy to have an appetite and feel hungry sometimes too. It’s helped me lose 6 and a half stone so far.

Yellowsubmarine55 · 24/08/2025 08:13

Been on it since end of March and have lost 48lbs. I wouldn't be chasing suppression as it may not be as strong or the on higher doses. Use this as a tool for a calorie deficit and for overhauling your habits not to completely turn off your desire for food.

I get hungry more at the end of the week but that's normal and then when I do eat, I'm satisfied so it's all good.

How many clicks do I do to get 3.1? (From a 2.5) Sorry I am not following and withdrawing liquid and figuring out 0.75 / 0.6 is confusing me (maths is not my strong point) 🤣🙈

Sixty clicks in a pen so 15 per dose, so you’d just prorata it, so in theory 19/20? The problem with doing that is by the fourth time, you won’t be able to count the clicks any more anyway as you’ll have ‘used’ all sixty clicks, meaning you’ll still need a syringe.

I also don’t like this idea myself because it means you’re jabbing twice (one for the full dose and once for the extra amount) so you really should change the needle for safety (and because you’ll have blunted it a bit the first time).

I haven’t needed to do it, I’m still ok on 2.5 mg for the time being, but knowing I can do it has made me more comfortable sticking to the lower pen!

This is wrong. 1 dose is 60 clicks. There are 240 clicks in a pen.

dizzyupthegirl86 · 24/08/2025 09:47

@SquishyGloopyBum yes, you’re right, sorry - teaches for me for replying before my first coffee!

Ineedanewsofa · 24/08/2025 09:54

I’ve ordered my 3rd 2.5 pen, have just done jab 7 from pen 2 and am 9kg down which is plenty quick enough loss for me.
The suppression has definitely waned but as per pp I don’t mind feeling hungry as that’s normal, the MJ does a great job of stopping me overeating and enables me to stick to between 1200 and 1300 calories a day easily so the weight is still coming off.
I’ve got another 20kg to lose ideally so I may need to go up, even if I do my unopened 2.5 pens have an expiry date of Dec 2026 so hopefully I’ll be weight lost and maintaining at 2.5 by then!
